Hello friends! Our deepest apologies for the SoulCalibur mix up. It was a mistake and we will be more careful going forward. I hope you will enjoy this video and forgive us for our mistake. Thank you :)
Roberto Buatti yep its amazing and development cost is more expensive so few publisher push their games as a service, maybe in ps5 come out every games will have microtransaction :(
lightnan 116, im not sure if it is my most replayed game but its up there. ive replayed a ton of the first dues ex as well. its a close call between those two though.
Obi-wan Kenobi-wan thank u for honesty. But I trully believe PS is the best platform for gaming. Of course PC is a must but PS revolutionizes video game. I remember how amazed i was with PS 1. That console was the starting point which killed Arcade gaming. It still exist but with PS1 we got better version n incredible 3d game n new gaming genre born through this console.
Actually not. I mean, if there are no consoles there were no limit for graphic, but still without consoles there were be no competition and the sh will be lazy
Metroid Prime, Resident Evil Remake, Resident Evil 4, Halo 2, Chronicles of Riddick Escape from Butcher Bay, Doom 3, Half Life 2, Uncharted 4, God of War (the new one), Conker's Bad Fur Day, L.A. Noir, Red Dead Redemption, Vectorman, Donkey Kong Country 2, MGS 3 Snake Eater, Super Mario 64, Silent Hill 2, The Last of Us, Tekken 3, Soul Reaver, Gran Tourismo, Fear Effect, The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time and the NES original to name a few more!
Don't run it on a TV. It's terribly optimized and autocaps at less than 25 FPS. On a regular monitor still looks incredible. 15º place for Crysis is preposterous.
Melony toni, if someone with intel HD graphics tried running it, I'm sure the game will barely run. Crysis had high graphical requirements for it's day, and even today, gamers benchmark their PC's with Crysis.
The Darkness, though underrated as hell, was really amazing looking for 2006/2007. I'm surprised nobody ever brings up that overlooked gem when talking about games that were graphically ahead of their times.
BLACK is truly a gem.. back in the day i played it on ps2 and boy did it look good ! Everytime you reload a weapon.. it just felt sooo good all the reflections and the sound that it produced.
Silent Hill 3 can make the case for being the best-looking PS2 game ever, so it's a huge omission on this list, leaps and bounds beyond God of War which came two years later (and more detailed than MGS2 as well). Playing the PC version in 1080p or 4K today just shows what a technical marvel it was and is, totally passable as a late PS3 title and still better looking than many PS4 games.
Grim Fandango would fit in this. It took advantage of low polygon technology to craft a unique style that still looks good. When everyone was trying to make realistic looking models and failing, they just got stylish. For the time this way to think about visual style in games was nearly unheard of.
Definitely needed Shadow of the Colossus on this, adding next-gen effects like hair rendering, self shadowing, depth of field and light bloom. Most 360 games didn't even have that. Time for a redo. I'm also old enough to remember Final Fantasy VII blowing everyone away with pre-rendered backgrounds and seamless cutscenes, one of the first to do it mainstream.
The Witcher 3 really wasn't downgraded in the way people always say it was. As CDPR themselves explained it, the rendering system they used in the E3 demo failed on them in the full game, making it glitchy and laggy, so they had to build their own rendering system, which ended up changing all the colours etc. If you play it now and say, go to the bog where the witches are during a certain time of day or during certain weather, it'll look nearly identical to the original demos. However, one major thing they did actually change was the appearance of the wild hunt, making their armour much less intricate. But then, I only played it on PC, which I've heard is much better looking than the console versions.
I find it astounding how our memory alters how good things look. Playing a ps2 game in 2018, and you are BOUND to say "These graphics are dated" but in memory, it looked so much better. Go back and look at Horizon: Zero Dawn and look at face capture in 2018. Its crazy. Ps: WHERE IS SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS????
The S.T.A.L.K.E.R.'s X-ray engine could be considered pretty innovative for it's time if the game was released undelayed. It was released in 2006 eventially.
Well I agree with many games, here, but I always said: Shenmue, Final fantasy and Metal gear Solid. Yet Final Fantasy is not on this list, while Final fantasy pushed graphics more than any other franchise
how the hell is crysis in 15th? this is the most graphic advanced game in his (or every era) it had every technology that is used nowadays (except for tesellation that didnt existed) EDIT: I agree with shenmue, when I got it I was extremely surprised that the character had "hands" XD
GTA IV released just one year after Crysis and Modern Warfare. In 2008, Metal Gear Solid 4, Mirror's Edge, World at War, Dead Space, Gears of War 2, Battlefield Bad Company and Resistance 2 were released. GTA IV also didn't look incredible. The world moving around you was incredible. It felt like a real city. Technically it was not the best at the time of its release. It was impressive but not the best. GTA IV is one of my favorite games of all time but I was impressed by the world rather, if I look back today, than the graphics. Maybe that's why it's not on the list, I would not disagree.
Yep was going to comment this as well. The leap graphically was insane and waaaay ahead of anything in that generation and still looks great two generations later.
0:21 "20 years ago, polygonal 3D would have been next to impossible to imagine." Yes, 20 years ago, during the PS1, Saturn, and N64 era, 3D games would have been impossible, sure...
Unpopular opinion, EA's SW Battlefront reboot. It deserves a lot of its criticism, but its graphical fidelity and beauty cannot be denied, probably the best looking games I've played to date. Also, maybe inFamous Second Son, best looking console exclusive by a long way.
I agree with most of the games in the list. But there should be half life 2 , Far cry (original one), the last of us , bioshock , GTA V . All of these games set the graphics standard too high for their generation of games.
definetly agree with far cry, even if you just leave out graphics, the sheer scope of the world, being able to snipe from half way across a map because it was all one continual thing was amazing.
Anouar Ess Halo Reach had something that made it feel realistic. However, Halo 4 had pretty ultrarealistic image quality at some point, it was really ahead from its generation
You obviously didn't see it or played it when it first came out on Gamecube in 2005. Resident Evil 4 was way ahead of its time and it was by far the best looking game back then.
Chris B. Not only the graphics but the whole game working is ahead of it’s time, the consequences of choosing wrong suspects, character development everything is perfect 👌🏻 sad the company got bankrupt and we’ll not get any sequence to this😓
All the games listed by the OP were actually way ahead of their time not just in graphics but also in gameplay as well. FFS, nobody remembers how many third person shooters got released after Gears of War became a hit?
Spr1ggan yup, if did it better, than it was revolutionary enough. I disagree about Doom 3, it was technically impressive for a game that came in 2004, but Far Cry was also very good for its time.
Of course was ahead of it's time, not just graphics but gameplay, physics were awesome comparing other games half life 2 was really awesome. History, gameplay, graphics, physics, animations, the experience of action. Was the perfect game ever. Maybe not for you, but it's ok.
I understand what you say, but the only thing you are telling me is that the only thing that had half life 2 was the facial expressions and beautiful animations. It is a game of great caliber, it has absolutely everything that other games lacked for the time.
I know, but you tell me that half life only had certain mechanics and unique things that made the game important. talking about graphics, half life had its thing, in terms of the generation of world and structures, lighting, color, artificial intelligence, it could also be said that it is an open world. Because people like it too much, because half life won many prizes, it was the best PC game in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Far cry, doom and other games of the time were not up to half life in my opinion, and apparently the criterion of other people of the old school.
I remember REmake on gamecube. Holy sh*t was stuff of nightmares that's how good that game was. RE games for the most part aged really well. I still play some on emulators.
Halo Combat Evolved. The only thing i really have to say is, does anyone remember that moment in the first level (not pillar of autumn but halo) when your exiting the underground tunnel you were driving through and a musical chime kicks in as you exit the cave. everytime i play that level i always drive over to the cliff as the music is playing and just stare at the abyss. Also, so glad MGS4 was on this list.
7 of these are Sony exclusives, including #1. Sony is always pushing it. Uncharted 4 and Until Dawn deserved to be mentioned imo. And have you seen how awesome God of War 3 looks to this day despite being 8 years old?
You clearly have ZERO experience with photo realistic graphics then if you are picking console games. Witcher 3, SWBF2, Mankind Divided, Crysis 3 all running with 4k textures put those games you mentioned to absolute shame.
There's something about the graphics of Silent Hill 3 that makes me believe it will never look bad no matter how much modern videogames advance. The artistic input in that game is unparalled.
I actually liked the Order 1776. It was just short that’s all. It got left wide open for a sequel. And I like the world, story. These guys are the knights from the round table kept alive by the fountain of youth to fight vampires and werewolves throughout the centuries. How is that bad?
herohunter81 Finally! I smart gamer! The loved the story. It is a shame that they never continued it... Graphics are aweosome, the gameplay was exactly what I was expetced with all those different kind of weapons. I don't undestand why people don't like the game...
I stoped watching this quasi CG specialist diarrhoea when I heard that "20 years ago polygonal 3D whould have been next to impossible to imagine"... What about Quake 1 (1996), Quake 2 (1997), International Rally Championship (1997), Shogo (1998), Blood II: The Chosen (1998), Sin (1998), Heretic II (1998) or Unreal (1998) for example? Nice research, my man.
Good time to stop, you were able to avoid hearing him seem to indicate the year 2001 was not “the early 21st century.” That is like as early as it gets.
Khalido Sahnoun while each of those are incredible they did not massively change the industry like others on the list. The jump wasn't entirely great enough
I'm surprised Horizon Zero Dawn wasn't mentioned here, the game was breathtakingly beautiful, every little detail. Also Assassins Creed Origins, I mean c'mon, you could see the sand move with the wind and from underneath your feet and the viewpoints stretched for miles, it deserved a spot
R R I think they will make a new video about those title. Specially Detroit, HZD, God of war isnt here. That means they r making a new top 10 for best visuals in video game probably
There are some games that were greater benchmarks than what you presented here, honestly. Games such Half Life 2, Far Cry 2, Metro (both of them), Stalker, Doom 3, Homeworld, Ryse: Son of Rome, Bioshock; among others. The technology developed for these games eclipses quite a few from this video's list.
HALO 1 was way ahead of its time with regards to Technical Achievement and Graphics for sure! You can see the vehicles independent suspension work!, Sniper Zoom was phenomenal, the game is filled with absolutely gorgeous lighting! It created a bench mark for FPS in 2001
Spr1ggan What is new when it comes to games? It’s either RPG or FPS,.. We are talking about Graphical Achievement bitch! And Halo set the bar like never before... as I said “a barking dog is to be ignored”
Spr1ggan why the fuck are u even replying to me?! Don’t u understand what I said is done! That’s it.. stop being a silly troll and fuck someone’s ass not mine
Tony Stark Halo definitely changed the gaming/fps industry. There was finally a decent fps game which made sense with its story. It's a time I will never forget.
Witcher 3 is really bad, the only thing i liked is the story and pseudo-choice you make. But games are suppose to be fun and wit3 isn't for sure, at some point, it was so bad to random swing sword around that i got dive into playing glenn (card game inside the game). the mechanics is generic as fuck and bad.
"Games are supposed to be fun." First of all, says who? That's up to developers, some games are more about challenge and can be more so frustrating than fun. Secondly, whether or not a game is fun is going to depend on the gamer, I'm sure a lot find TW3 fun. I love Quake Live, but a lot of new players get frustrated because they can't just pick it up and expect to win a match against people who have been playing for years within their first month or so of playing, it just doesn't work that way. But if you give it time, it can be VERY fun. Saying that you think more games should aim to be more fun, that's different. It seems like gamers are enjoying challenge less and less. Depends on the game for me, for some games I care more about the story and experience, and don't want to keep experiencing the same part over and over because I keep dying lol. That's why I like games like TW2 that allow changing difficulty at any time in the game so you don't need to start all over, I'd change it to easy at points then back to normal on first play through, then eventually did dark mode.
mate, wtf, i play dota (almost divine) since warcraft 3, i know challenge XD. my point is very valid, i am currently re-playing skyrim again (made all achiv) on legendary dificult, i've sometimes play diablo 1 hellfire too. I have also played a lot of rpg-like games like: neverwinter, torchlight, all diablos, almost all elder scrolls, fallout, dark souls (all), random rpgs that no one knows (kenshi exemple), Terraria, Hearthstone etc. I think i spent more time than i should playing since child. TW3 isn't a challenge and the action playing style is so flat, rebember old adventure games(bad ones), the flawess in my opinion is story(it's immersive) , but if i wanna history is better to me read a book, not play a game with bad mechanics. i agree with you games don't have to be fun, it's supposed to be, i think it's a common goal to all developers, but some can do random things as they wish.
I didn't necessarily mean you specifically as far as challenge, but it kind of seems to be a trend in gaming these days. I didn't necessarily mean your point wasn't valid either, TBH I still haven't gotten around to playing TW3. Being fun is certainly one of the more ideal goals for a game(games can be fun AND challenging too), but there can be a lot and the same game can be a different thing to different gamers, that's mainly all I meant. Maybe I was just pointing out the obvious lol. I guess it does make sense though for things like skill matching to tailor games to a players skill level(difficulty levels were always a way to do this), and when that doesn't work well, throwing yourself in over your head isn't necessarily the best way to get better. It seemed to work alright for Quake Live though, if you're willing to put semi-regular playing into it for YEARS lol. I understand casual gaming though, as much as I'm a 'hardcore' gamer, I don't feel like everyone else should strive for that. But thinking specifically of gamers I'd come across on Quake Live, the ones that say they play for 'fun', and yet they complain about the skill matching, I'd just think if they were playing for fun, fairly even skill matching shouldn't be that important anyway. Maybe I was just humble, I didn't mind getting my ass handed to me on a regular basis lol, it still happens. Even with a game like that it's interesting how many different reasons gamers can play, for some it's for fun, but at the same time they don't seem to like playing with players that want to win and absolutely dominate. I think it really helped me that I didn't care much about actually winning, getting to at least 25+ in the highest FFA tier out of 50 frags is when I was doing well to start off. I've probably been gaming too much of my life too lol, I literally taught myself to play my brother's NES when I was 3, I've always been good at teaching myself, mostly self-taught guitarist.
I know right?! I thought RDR should be on this list. The natural environment should of been praised as the best random encounters, it keeps the free roaming fresh.
out of the 2004 ground breaking shooters DOOM 3, half-life 2 and crysis, crysis is the one i'd say deserves the title of the game that looked way ahead of its time the most.
It's also probably in the top 10 games of all time, and hands down the best game ever made in the survival horror genre. The game was an undeniable masterpiece
Outcast GTA3 Half Life 2 The Last Of Us Elder Scrolls Oblivion Witcher 3 Crysis Operation Flashpoint Metal Gear Solid The Secret Of Monkey Island Doom Quake Command And Conquer Dragon''s Lair Unreal
I also can add just cause 2 all smackdown vs raw series, gta 4, tna impact, dead or alive 4, max payne 3, mafia 2, pes 2010, assasins creed 3, batman arkham city, forza horizon, nfs underground, god of war 2 or cod mw
Some of the best games: Crysis Crysis 3 NFS HP 2 Shadow of Collous PS2 Uncharted 4 Until Dawn Order 1886 Assassins Creed Unity Alan Wake Assassins Creed NFS Shift Resident Evil 4 Half Life 2 (obvious)
The wonder experimented by the ones who had the chance to play Crysis at its time... nothing has come not even close to that. I feel lucky to have been part of that group
technical achievements are considered to be among MGS 4's biggest strengths? the game barely ran in the 1024x768 resolution stretched to 720p/1080p. You don't have to look hard for the framerate dips - just run the demo. i'm not talking about drops to 20fps either, since it's the norm, it can go as low as single digits at times. The jaggies on a stretched sub-hd resolution looked as bad as it sounds - fire it up on the ps3 instead of looking back at it with rose-tinted nostalgia glasses and you'll see how bad it really looks (and runs). Same goes for GTA 4, that was released in a similar time frame - looked bad, ran bad. Good thing killzone 2 and uncharted 2 came out the following year or i would've thought buying a ps3 was a mistake. Actually even Uncharted 1, that came out like half a year before mgs4, was technically on a different level, as well.
