Hi again! I have one other tip that I'd like to suggest doing before leaving on a cruise (or any trip for that matter!). It adds to the list of chores you have to do before leaving but I find it's well worth it - the morning you leave, strip your bed and make it up with fresh sheets! When you come home, there's nothing like getting in to a comfy bed that feels like you're still on your trip!

I have a tip to add. I am 7 days from sailing and decided to reprice my rental car this morning and it was $50.15 less than when I booked 3 months ago. I am only 3 hours from port but decided to rent a car because I discovered it was around the same price as parking at the port. It is now less than I would have paid to park for the week, no wear/tear on my car, and the rental gets better gas mileage.

I find the same thing too. I always book everything about 6 months out, car, hotel...then about 1 week before (or before cancellation deadline) I reverify all my pricing and it is usually dropped quite a bit. Enjoy your cruise!

Leaving on our cruise in 6 days to Cabo. Already packed & have everything pressed. Definitely packing dresses & my husbands suit last. Getting a pedicure & manicure along with my self tanning tomorrow. Downloaded a few games & movies on my iPad. This will be our 13th cruise, so hopefully we have some idea of what to expect, however decided I’ve to go a little more casual. Great idea is leaving my house clean, floors, dust furniture, take out the trash & putting clean sheets on the bed & don’t forget to clean out the coffee pot! Going with several girlfriends from high school, class of 1980 rules…like totally for sure. I’m 60 btw!

My idea of “formal wear” for travel these days is a beautifully cut pair of black jersey pants with a sparkly silver top in a non-wrinkle knit fabric. I have a plain black top in the same jersey as the pants if I want a bit of variety - just dress it up with a long statement necklace or fancy earrings. (The jewellery looks great, but is just inexpensive costume stuff that wouldn’t tempt a thief or be a great loss if it did vanish.) A bright, light-weight cashmere wrap can be used for warmth or added interest, and is useful as a scarf for cooler, windy days. They all unroll out of their packing cube ready to put on and go. The pants double as smart casual daywear, and the black top works well under my go-to blazer for any day time activity. I gave up on heels years ago, so my “evening shoes” are black suede ballet flats with clip on diamanté buckles that can be removed for daywear. The black jersey is machine washable, and the sparkly silver can be hand-washed. Even the cashmere wrap can be hand washed carefully. I can get as many different looks as I could possible need from these few entirely fuss-free items. (If you aren’t a pants-in-the-evening type of lady, a black jersey skirt would work just as well for these looks.)

Not last minute tip - but forget about his and her luggage (as in don't do individual bags) mix the content between the two (if a couple) so you each have contents and if one bag is lost or delayed, you still have enough items to carry you over.

I actually start "packing" 2 months in advance by just keeping all of my bought clothing and items together in my closet.. I osck my clothing and most items fully in my suit case about 3 weeks before the cruise.. by the time I'm a day or 2 away from embarkation day I'm only packing my toiletries that I use daily. I'm a huge over planner lol

Thanks to everyone for their tips. I keep a "travel to-do" checklist in my Notes app on my phone. Flip the breaker to our well pump (even if a pipe springs a leak we won't have a flood), water heater adjusted, house temp adjusted, water plants, check the refrigerator, and put a travel alert on the credit cards. Safe travels to all!!

Something that is overlooked, but important. Check all appointments you may have. We had at least two doctor appointments that were scheduled during cruise week and totally forgot about them. Thankfully, we were not charged for missing them, as we were on vacation. But sometimes we make appointments way in advance and forget about them. This would be especially helpful for those who make last minute cruise plans. Some appointments could cost you dearly if you miss them or don't reschedule. Also, try not to schedule an appointment the day before or the day after the cruise, in case something happens.

Llana, Tip you may want to try for tioletries that you put in checked bags. Take off screw lid and put a small piece of "Press & Seal", (be sure & cover the screw top of bottle) then screw your lid on. If it is a spray bottle, pierce a small hole in the center of the Press & Seal & thread your screw top tube through it. Then to be extra cautious I put items in double zip lock bags & make sure they are cushioned in my bag. Hope this helps.

Be sure your “Hold the mail” form is submitted and you have someone checking your mail box and front door. Double check you have all your documents. We freeze a small tub of water in the freezer and place a penny on the ice. If the penny is still on top when we get home, that means no long power outage and the food is good. If it is inside the ice then that means the power went out and your food in the freezer may be bad now. Double check all window and door locks. Put timers on lights and radios to make it look like someone is home.

I love this idea about the penny on the ice! It may be a bit over the top, but as my mom always said, it's better to be safe than sorry. I will use that in the future. Thanks for the idea!

One tip for packing the things you don't use often and keeping things organized in one location: we use a wheeled three-drawer storage unit that we keep things we want to bring on our cruise, but don't use often. For example: our cruise backpacks, snorkel gear, water shoes, etc. If we don't use it every day or often, it goes in the storage unit. We also put our 'travel folder' in the unit. This is a folder that contains all of our travel paperwork, like flight, car & cruise information. This way everyone knows where the travel info is located and can easily check on any missing items. We've used this system for several years and it's very helpful.

Here are a couple more: 1. Call your credit card companies to inform them you will be using your cards abroad (if traveling internationally). 2. Call your phone service provider to arrange for any special voice/data service you will need (especially for countries abroad). 3. Visit the bank to pick up any important docs that you keep in a safe deposit box (eg. passports, Global Entry cards). While there, you can pick up some small bills!

Great advice, but with my credit card company, they do not need me to inform them I’m going abroad. What they do is text me and/or email me to let me know that my card has been used in a foreign country and I respond with a yes or no that it’s me. Also, as a note on your item number three global entry is no longer a card, but is part of your passport. I was just at TSA and had my global entry renewed and they no longer issued cards, but take your passport and encrypt it with your global entry .

I've been watching your videos and they have been very helpful and full of good ideas and information. I have a list going and will start filling up the basket and checking off the list. One important thing I always do is lower the water heater since we are not going to be home and not have the water heater running more than needed. We also unplug all unnecessary appliances, lamps, candle warmers.

I've been watching a bunch of your cruise videos lately. I think that you give pretty sound tips and advice. We've been on 3 cruises so far, with the next one not scheduled until March 2024. The luggage tag holders work great for us. I print out the tags a few days before our cruise and put them in the holders. At the hotel the night before the cruise we easily put the tags on all of our bags. No need for tape or staples. I keep a 3 ring soft cover notebook with all the essential information that I may need in it. Plane tickets, cruise contract and port info. Shuttle, hotel and excursion details, and the confirmation numbers, plus important phone numbers just in case I can't pull the info up on my phone. The notebook stays with me in my daypack until we get into our cruise ship cabin. We tend to start packing about two weeks before our cruise. We set two tables up in the Livingroom where we put our suitcases to pack. I put on my list exactly what is in each suitcase so I can easily find any item should I need it before our cruise. And I often do.

I start gathering possible items and throw in suitcase the day i book the vacation, then do an actual final laundry and pack a few days prior to leaving. What a great idea to premake a couple of post cruise meals! Leave all luggage by front door night before leave. My husband left a bag in closet one time and didnt notice until plane was taxiing. 😂

I am now using the Ultimate cruise Planner for my 6th cruise. Each time, I only print the pages I need. For example, we have no children traveling with us, so do not need those pages. We live one hour from Fort Lauderdale, so for those cruisers, we do not need pages about hotel or air travel pages. Love it!

Hi Ilana! Enjoying all your videos, thank you! Have learned so much from them - its been a while since we cruised - and excited to be embarking on our Princess cruise in July. One cruise tip - we've decided as a precaution prior to embarkation to self isolate for 5 days before doing our C19 PCR test to ensure we don't test positive just before the cruise - how disappointing that would be!

I agree. This is an awesome idea. Unfortunately we are unable to do that. Super nervous about that particular link of our trip. I work in the medical field therefore we are still required to mask at work. My one TRUE worry is that our nephew is getting married the Sunday prior to our departure. My husband and I have agreed to go ONLY to the ceremony and wear our mask the entire time. One day this seems so selfish of me but then my Spirit tells me that I also need a vacation! Thqnjs Christine for this great tip!

She said I should be able to go on the cruise and enjoy my time! I am overly excited for this amazing trip I will be taking! I have watched your videos ever since the day I found out about the cruise. You have given some excellent tips and recommendations! This may be just a little over the top, but it's easy enough. Raise the bar in the ice maker(s) so they don't make new ice while you're gone. If there happens to be a boil order while you are gone (it happens quite a bit here,) then you won't unknowingly come home to an ice bin full of potentially contaminated/unsafe ice. Also, unplug the coffee pot, etc. Love this community. Thanks for all the great ideas and tips!

We have a cruise chat group as a number of friends are cruising too. I have started splurging and buying one new outfit each pay fortnight. I would love your advice and photos of what to pack for formal nights. How formal is the formal dress? I do not yet have anything for those. My cruise is a two week cruise. We booked twelve months ago with incredible special deals coming out of Covid lockdown and got the club class mini-suites. I can’t wait.

As far as games, my hubby & I always bring our backgammon game (yes from the 70s lol) and we get so many positive comments from passengers saying "wow, never thought of that"! I also prefer to bring shelf stable milk for my coffee if there's no "Cafe el Bachio" 😉

One of the final things we pack is our Apple AirTags. We had a wayward bag that took three weeks to get back. The map displayed the location. That helped the be port find our bag. We had taken it to the airport (took a photo like you said) and didn’t get it when we got to our home airport. Crazy but the Tag saved us $$$$

Hi there fellow Canadian. It always makes my day to watch a new vlog from you and to learn something new or to be reminded of must-do's. I'm braving a solo Alaskan cruise in September as a power wheelchair user, which will require pre-cruise steps to be taken that you likely haven't covered yet since those in my position aren't brave (dumb) enough to give it a go. Thank you for covering everything else so fully though. I'll be re-watching all of your pre-cruise must do's before my adventure. Thanks, as always for such helpful and entertaining videos.

I love your videos. I can't remember if you mentioned this before. Depending on where you are going, you may need to get specialized sunscreen. Some ports say you have to use coral safe sunscreen because regular sunblock/screen is killing the coral and other marine life in the area. I always pack my regular stuff for on board the ship and have the specialized sunscreen for when we arrive at port. Some places will watch to see what sunscreen you are applying because in addition to taking care of the environment, their tourism is based upon people who snorkel or scuba and if the coral dies off and the marine life that depends on the coral then dies off and so on, there will be nothing for the tourists to see.

All of your video's have been excellent for anyone who is cruising. I have been a number of crusises, you have given me tips I didn't even think about. Couple of tips. 1.Load CC on website for Uber or Lift. 2. If using a debit card make sure there is plenty of money in bank account. 3. Contact CC company to advise will leaving on vacation, plue where going. 4. Photograph pictures of cloths taking on cruise 5. Make sure cloths packing have just come back from the clearners 6.Take wine & champagne stoppers 7. Make sure you have a pet sitter booked in advance. I am cruising on RSSC Navigator October 12th the Fall Foliage cruise, RSSC does not have an app. Any thing to do prior has to be taken care of on their website. Again your video's and tips are the best.
