15 Major Differences Between Disney And Pixar Movies

In 2006, after a slew of successful animated films (Toy Story, The Incredibles, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, Finding Nemo), Disney purchased Pixar studios which then went under the “Disney Umbrella.” Before they got bought out, it was pretty clear what the difference between Pixar and Disney was. And guess what, that still seems to be true despite being absorbed by such a large company with such a huge legacy. Pixar Studios is now owned by Disney, but you just know deep down they’re still different right? The characters still look different. The stories are still very distinct. The villains are more villainous. Or maybe they’re less villainous? And that one Pixar character actually looks like my own Aunt Cass!
Encanto is just so Disney. Onward is just so Pixar. How can such a distinct style persist within an already existing animation studio?
Are you Turning Red trying to figure out why? Luca no further than TheThingsAnimated for solace. You’re not alone, we agree, and we’ve worked hard using string, photos, and bobby pins covering our WALL-E to connect the dots. The answer isn’t Lightyears away, we’ve got 15 reasons right here that Disney and Pixar are different.
Unlike your cousin Bruno, we’re going to talk about your favorite Disney scenes, your favorite Pixar characters, your favorite Disney songs, and your favorite Pixar voice actors from Pixar and Disney’s long and excellent history of animated films. So get a big bucket of popcorn, defrost a Frozen II pizza, and enjoy!

For the visuals, i think that disney is trying to be the most realistic possible(especially for the backgrounds), while pixar is slowly trying to stylise its movies like in turning red or luca for example
@thekueken
@thekueken Год назад
True, but funny how that leads to Disney ending up with idealized visuals (majestic landscapes, model body types [albeit they are sloooowly loosening up there], cleaned up anthropomorphic animals) while Pixar has the more every day body types, plain but still wide and real land/cityscapes, and dares to make its animals fuzzy (= "not relying on cute"). A story with pretty magical beings in a (more or less) historically (and architecturally) accurate environment by Disney may look more surreal and fantastical than a story about ...living cars set in a world that is a freaky (less accurate, often exaggerated) superficial (stream-lined?) replication of ours. However, the lines are (beginning to get) blurry - visually, tonally and thematically. [Edited bc I accidentally tried to make Ratatouille a pure Disney movie, which serves to stress my last point XD)

Weird for me it's the opposite. Sure Disney is very stylized, but grounded in real world anatomy and the aesthetics of drawings, paintings and dolls. Disney humans at the very least skew more humans like in an idealized way. While Pixar is more radical in their human design choices. Mr.Incredible, Captain McCrea, Mama Coco and the like are more cartoony compared to a Flynn Rider, Elsa or Hiro Hamada. It's only Lightyear in my opinion that went full realism.

Its true about the endings in Pixar. While the story wrapped up, you can tell the characters aren't done going on with their lives and struggles. We even see after credits in Pixar movies showing that the characters still trying to adjust with their lives.

Right on point. This is why they make incredible sequels on top of that. Although the main conflict is resolved, there is still so much for the characters left which can be incorporated in another film.

What I don't like about Pixar is how much they anarchy the reality that it feels utterly childish. Like, house floating on balloons, a girl is transforming into panda and everyone is like okay with it. What I like is world development. In Moana, Encanto, frozen I know its fantasy land anything could happen. Even in frozen, reaction of citizens to sorcery is very real. Compared to turning red or Luca.

Except Turning Red. The movie just made me feel annoyed with the little brat who didn't get any better and if anything only was even more of a brat by the end. The only character development was her mom no longer being overprotective but instead not being protective enough. Her dad almost had character development but instead of being equal as a parent, he only said what he wanted to tell her and then continued to not have a say in anything that happened. What I don't understand is: What is the big deal? Everyone fusses about it. But, they're under the same company. Sure the stories and styles are different but you shouldn't need to choose between them. Just love both! One offers realistic storylines, and one offers fantasy. One offers magic and royalty, and one offers people we see just on the other side of the street. One shows happy ever after, and one shows a more realistic ending. They both are completely different, but I think that's good and you instead get the best of both worlds. So, I reiterate, why choose? Just choose both.

I feel like both are not comparable. Disney is great and I feel like they have chosen their speciality and understood their limits which is not a bad choice ( even if I feel like they're very money oriented which could be Pixar's case too idk but it could do them wrong in the future...). Pixar has a special place in my heart, it's so realistically optimistic. They have something to them, their characters are so relatable and different in their own way, they almost seem real. Their philosophy is exigent but understanding and empathetic. They are artists for sure! Also when you look at all the process they do to make every movie the most realistic and incredible way possible, it's amazing. For Up in particular. They go above and beyond the surface. Turn red was the last one I saw and it was very good! Of course they don't have the right to fail!! If they dare do one average movie that would be their last death wish...

Basic theme. Disney animations tend to be about people (particularly princesses) who already have plenty but want something more. Somehow, being a princess just isn't good enough. And by the end, they get what they want, more on top of plenty. Pixar protagonists more often start fully satisfied with their lives, happy in their moment, wanting nothing more. Then life forces a drastic, unwanted change upon them. By the end of the movie, they have not solved the problem...they've just adapted to it, learned to live with it and to be happy in spite of it. This may be why Pixar is more relatable to adults...adults will have been through more of those "life comes at you hard" moments, and a lot fewer of the "princess gets her prince" moments.

I will regret if I don't post this The frase "With great power comes great responsibility " did become popular with marvel But it wasn't first mentioned in spiderman nor in the whole marvel (not sure about the comics sry) It was in 1985 movie "Teen Wolf" Moreover that movie was where Pixar got the idea of "Turning Red"(love the cartoon but still) And there are more of that stuff, they take lines and ideas from 80s films ALL THE TIME (look at Rick and Morty and time mashine for hells sake) I'm sorry if I sound like a jerk, but watching through most of old films we can definitely tell that no monstrously new ideas have been made. Kinda heavy if you put it that way, but we can find every idea of a "brand new film" in timeline from 60s till 80s Love your videos, especially this one ❤ I am 15, I love pixar even more than disney for the cartoons, but after watching smth new and rewatching films from the past I would definitely say that they rerun all the ideas over and over again

Yes, Turning Red takes much from Teen Wolf (which starred Micheal J Fox). And Cars takes much from Doc Hollywood (another film that starred Michael J Fox). Of course, Rick and Morty takes much from Back to the Future (yet another Michael J Fox film).

Disney writes fantasies. Pixar writes developmental journeys.

I think Pixar gives*more personality* to characters and *dosent just give them one personality trait and work around it*. For example, Mei-Mei from Turning Red has two personalites: fangirl and perfect kid. Another example is that Elsa, from Frozen only had ice powers to make her stand out. Nothing else was really given that stands out. And, like you said, Pixar *does give random ages to people and show that heros can be of any age, any race* meanwhile Disney only has like 3 brown or black princesses. And only 1 is chinese so in my opinion they should also do a better job at race and ages. *:)*

In short Disney is for small kids who actually has to keep an imagination and believe in fantasy world ( you don’t want a five years old to have a reality check and make them believe that life is hard) but pixar is more for the grown up kids 10+ years old, that’s where they start to grow up and see life for what it really is

Hot take but I feel like Disney is adults making movies for kids, and Pixar is adults making movies for their childhood selves.
