All the '67 era amps seem to have something extra at least to my ears. Super clarity plus nice compression and saturation. The tone of those amps also seems more balanced, a little less nasal than some of the later amps. You even got the light shade rocking at 7:03, lol. Great job Johan and thanks for sharing this Marshall experience with us all.

Man, all of the late 60s models sound incredible to me, but Kossoff's amp is just beautiful. That tone when you hit the 10th fret is so rich. Thanks for your awesome channel man. Honestly I would be happy to have ANY of these amps at all, but I think the 66 JTM45/100 Super PA, 69 Super Lead, and 67 Super Bass did it the most for me though Kossoff's amp is certainly special as he's one of my favorites. In any case I could listen to you play through any of them all day long

1969 Super Lead and amp II, wow! Amp I has a little more edge, amp II is a little more middy, but... wow! Third choice would be 1967 50W Lead, well balanced tone. But, I was born in 1969 and I like Super Lead amp I from that year some more...!!! Nice comparison!

Mind blowing, to hear the difference between same model of amp over the years. My impression was that the reissue sounded vastly different from the others. I never really understood why some famous artists (like Aerosmith) rejected Marshall in the 70s because they didn't sound like their 60s amps. Now I kinda get it.

@claudehebert1180
@claudehebert1180 9 лет назад
Johan Segeborn Agreed! I've yet to find a solid state amp, modelling or otherwise, or a processor that can accurately imitate the glassy high end, the compressed push (not sure what else to call it) when they're cranked, the presence in the mix, and the note decay, especially the note decay; it just kind of, fizzes out instead of sustaining or feeding back like it shoiuld. I used to think it was me or my guitar, but after trying several they just can't compare to the real thing. There's always something missing.

Hi Johan, I wanted to thank you for providing videos with a real reference to Marshall plexi's. So many newer amps claim to have the "plexi" tone, but you provide us with great quality demos of real Marshall plexi from the 60's. I'm currently building an amp with plexi specs and using your videos as a reference point because I personally haven't heard a real plexi in person. Again, thank you for your time and effort In Your videos!

And the winner is...1966 JTM45/100 Super PA. This was an early Hendrix amp of choice and you can hear the same tone here at the 8:10sec mark. , the percussive strokes also sound tremendous, well done to demo that one Johan. It was also the model amp used at Monterrey Pop Festival according to one site. This amp is the only one listed on the Marshall site under Artists/Hendrix/ .

I know it would be huge undertaking, and these are all probably back at the rental place, but I would love to see/hear this demo with a different cabinet. Loved most of the amps, but a couple just didn't do it for me. I bet a different cab would change that right up. Full disclosure: I never "got" Marshall until very recently. I get it now! Thanks for showing me the folly of my youth! The '65 JTM 45 and the '68 50 Watt Lead were great, with the Super Lead, Super PA and a Super Bass more than holding their own.

I had a chance today to not only play but Barrow a 68 superbass 100 watt(mighty I add with a 60 les paul and 51 Tele I'm so blessed to have nice friend).. Best Marshall I've ever played.. and actually only Marshall I've every played. Friend of mine has sworn for years that in his opinion is the best amp ever.....so I decided to give it a try with matching cab from 1968 with heritage 30's....My face melted. Even though it's a loud cruchy killer amp but it it is super versatile and has beautiful bright clean tones. I will be gigging two sets tomorrow on it before I have to give my new dream amp back.......

They all sound very similar. They all sound awesome. I have a 65 Blackface Bassman. Mr Ben Fargen converted the bass side to a plexi and it sounds dead on. What is crazy is how great my Wampler Plexi Deluxe sounds too. I bet I could blind fold everyone on this forum and you would all have a hard time telling the difference between one of these Marshalls and the Wampler Plexi Deluxe. If any of you have not tried it, it is really a great pedal. Honestly, 97 percent there and it is only about 200 bucks. I run it through my blackface Bassman and my Fargen Blackbird 20 2x12.

We can probably comment on the valves in the upcoming feature clips :-)

My pick would have to be 2005 hand wired. It just took all of the old amps and sounded like it could do no wrong.. just my opinion wished I could of been in that room...

Really digged both PA models. Nice and different sounding.I used to own a 2005 handwired 100 watter but after it blew 3 output transformers I traded it for a fender '59 bassman reissue which I also sold a long time ago... I feel so stupid.

I think that the best sounding are the 1969 Super Lead, the 1965 JTM and the JTM Black Flag, but all of them sounds incredibly good and I'd love own any of them

Thanx for this nice demo. The same demo with a stratocaster would be very interesting too !

Yes times 10,000!!!! I play a JTM 45, and while I love to get dirty with a Les Paul on it, a single coil, less gainy pickup brings out the more subtle beauty that lies within.

Holy shi_ that room full of marshalls is intimidating. Ear protection mandatory! I can not pick a favorite. They all sound sweet. I really dig that wicked lick at about 13:32 to 13:40 !!! Well done!

What an honour to play trough Kossoffs amp. Man his fingervibrato was unbelieveable. But I have to say.. I like the '77 Super Bass best

Great video! All the vintage marshall's sound great although slightly different. The only standout is the 2005 HW reissue sounds harsh.
@JohanSegeborn
@JohanSegeborn 9 лет назад
Thanks! The HW is my fault I gave it to much treble and the hum noise could have been avoided. It's actually a great amp. Cheers
