Food4dogs is an inspiration for all of us gamers that will eventually grow older and reach that generation. Such an amazing women to be able to talk about her passions and video games. Nothing but respect and a true role model.
@@kindred6453 I think were kind of beyond the days of "you need to grow up those silly hobbies are for kids" since geek culture is now pretty much ingrained into our Society. Hell people make career's out of video game and anime content now. Super Hero live action worlds are mainstream in media and were slowly venturing towards more video game/anime adaptations on regular streaming channels that more adults then kids are getting involved in. Its a new world!!
@@Artimes. While I agree for the most part I still on occasion see the "x is a kid thing you should act like a grown up" but that mainly comes from people who don't want to see others enjoy life. My comment was more so left with the idea of "I can see myself being like her in my old age, enjoying geeky stuff until I'm on my death bed" kind of thought.
@@kindred6453 yep and I think naturally history won't course correct itself. This is just how it is now. In our fathers generations we were the kids that got involved into these hobbies when our parents were watcing war drama's, westerns and playing board games but that was there era. Natually as we kids have grown up now, the future brings with it our love for these hobbies that we have now made into business, careers paths as well as entertainment. I don't think that will change rather or not if we are 30, 40 or even 70-80.
Great pick! I've only played the DS version of Radiant Historia, but it left a lasting impression. Nice figures as well. The Cold Steel figures and Lyn from FE Blazing Blade look awesome. Besides Lyn being my favorite Fire Emblem character, the pose she's striking in the figure takes it to the next level.
Loved seeing Food4Dogs, Davidvinc, Ircha Gaming, The Gaming Shelf, HallowedBeThyGame, Orbatology, and Backlog Battle!!! While I don't necessarily relate with everyone else's choices - I was very very very happy to be able to relate to Britta's choice! I agree - FE Echoes Shadows Of Valentia was definitely a masterpiece of a game, even within it's own series. Although personally, Awakening still stays as my most favorite Fire Emblem game at the moment until another FE takes its place. ❤️✨
I really like how people in the JRPG content creator community are getting along so well overall. You guys put together a great list, though I have to admit that I still need to play some of the games. No Falcom though? I'd add Ys VIII / Oath in Felghana and Trails to Azure.
I have never heard of Food 4 Dogs, but Britta is now my rolemodel and I want to be just like her when I get to that age. I also agree with her about everything regarding Fire Emblem Echoes. I am not sure about my favorite JRPG, but I would say either Fire Emblem Blazing Sword or Tales of the Abyss. I kinda tend toward Tales of the Abyss. I may not like the newer games, but Abyss just did so many things right. It has great characters, a great story and an amazing soundtrack. The games combat may be simple, but to me, simple is best. You have free range to move in the arena, can create pretty cool combos with altered artes and your main healer attacks and heal with singing! The story has so many gut wrenching moments that just hit you in the feels and kick you while you're down. There is also an Anime, that I have the Bluray for, but I can't watch it because I am German and the Bluray is American. (What the hell is the difference between A and B players?) I desperately want Abyss to get a Remaster, because playing on the small 3DS is great and all, but the D pad is not very fun to use because I keep having to readjust my finger on it. This was a fun video and I enjoyed most of the games being talked about here. See you next time mate. Cheers 😊
I really love Tales of the Abyss. It's not only my favorite jrpg ever it's my favorite video game of all time. Despite all of its flaws on the ps2 I just can't think of any game thats better than it. I immediately fell in love with the story and the combat system and by the end of the game I had completely invest myself in the main cast and it's outstanding villains and the lore of the world. I'm currently on my second playthrpugg where I'm going to not only try to master the combat but attempt to explore everything the game has to offer and I may end up missing some side quests. And it's also the one Tales game I really do hope Bandai namco will give the remake/remaster treatment next
As a fellow German and Tales Fan, I see what you mean about the newer Games. I think they don't have the same feeling. Tales of Symphonia is absolutely my favorite game.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to participate in this colab! It's amazing to see so many passionate RPG creators together and you seamlessly blended everyones clips together masterfully! Some truly great choices and I feel Suikoden 2 is definitely right up there, if not at the very top! Amazing video as always Kiseki and I love watching through your video library multiple times on the big TV in the living room!
You just earned yourself a sub, sir. Not only is FF7 my masterpiece RPG of all time, (well, Remake now), but to hear you edit everything on your phone? Kudos to that. XD
People generally prefer the game they played in childhood , but the first time I played FFIX was at my 25 in 2012, it’s holding up the place of best game in history in my heart till today.
Surprised there were no Dragon Quest recommendations! I'd suggest 5 or 7. Great list regardless though, probably going to finally play through my copy of Radiant Historia soon
11, 8, and 5 for me personally. I think DQ11 has so few flaws that it is the top pick for mainline Dragon Quest games. It has likable, memorable characters, great graphics and art style, classic Dragon Quest story, basic but fun combat mechanics, good pacing, and the length is just right with the post game adding extra difficulty and length for hardcore enthusiasts.
I dare say that if each person had more than 1 pick, DQ would get some love. Always difficult to narrow it down to one memorable experience, much less keep the explanation concise.
Seeing Xenoblade Chronicles 2 makes me so happy. I can't deny it's rather flawed but it's also the game that got it's hooks into me and had me so emotionally invested in its characters and world that I couldn't put it down. I tend to burn out on games around the 60 - 70 hour mark but I remember I was doing the post game content at the 150 hour mark and still having the time of my life. What a great game.
this is like an "ALL STARS" episode of my favorite show. amazing creators ❤ I'm surprised to find a few people I haven't seen before. thanks for the video and an amazing collaboration :3
Great collab, I appreciate you doing this. I knew about half of these people and just found several more people to follow! Most my picks are represented here; the one glaring omission I would've monologues for 3 minutes about is Nier Automata. And FFXIV, if someone had the heart to do so.
One content creator I wished to hear in this video would have been the JRPG Jungle, but hell, you collected a bunch of truely wonderful persons in here. I played a lot of these games the past years and esp. FF6 was stuck with me. Personaly my 10/10 JPRG. Esp. in the Pixel Remaster! In Addition: GO OUT EVERYONE AND PLAY Ys: Lacrimosa of Dana. It is a wonderful A-JPRG, best YsGame ever!
I actually did give a call-out to JRPG Jungle, she unfortunately was busy this time around! When I said there were 2 influences who got me in to Atelier (on Ircha's segment), it was her and the other was JRPG Jungle.
games that were a 10/10 for me that were not included on this list - Persona 4 Golden - absolutely incredible OST, unforgettable cast, top tier voice acting and writing Final Fantasy 12 - often overlooked but I thought the combat, writing and visuals were gorgeous and a love letter to traditional JRPGs Tales of Vesperia - one of my favorite protagonists (Yuri), great combat and a deep, engaging story Trails to Azure - this needs no explanation (greatest game of all time) loved this collab and added a few games that I haven't played before (Radiant Historia and Terranigma)
This is a such a nice and varied list! JRPG fans from all walks of life, and featuring from old to new. My pick world be Ys: Lacrimosa of Dana. Fun, touching and unforgettable. Nice video again!
Awesome episode! The games showcased are must haves and to have such great guest was a surprise to me as I follow nearly half of them already. Perfect spectrum!
This giant collab is fantastic - not just because you got a bunch of very skilled people who are passionate about this stuff, but just COLLABORATING at this level is something I don't think very many people even think about. Quality was solid and tons of fantastic games here as well. Hype to intro all these creators - definitely a few channels I'll be checking out. (Thanks everyone who worked on the video)
Ircha got me into the Atelier series as well, I'm slow burning Ryza 1 as much as I can to savor it. I was glad to see 13 Sentinels, Xenogears, and Radiant Historia here. I would have put Trails in the Sky 1 & 2 on the list. Those games are perfect JRPGs in my opinion, with story I'm always invested in, characters I'm always happy to see, immersive lore, and varied & strategic combat.
So glad someone mentioned Xenoblade Chronicles 2, it's one of my all time favourite games! The music is probably my favourite gaming soundtrack, one song in particular sticks in my mind called Our Eternal Land, sung by an Irish Choir, everyone should RU-vid it if they've never played the game. Irene from Ircha Gaming also got me into the Atelier games, they're very addictive with great battle systems and people should definitely check them out if they haven't already.
Good video! I'm discovering this channel and a bunch of others thanks to the collab. I am also a creator that is getting back into the JRPGs, right now playing Octopath Traveler and 100%ing all the Ys releases on Steam, which is becoming fast one of my favorite series of all time! Lovely work, kudos to all the creators for sharing their love for these games!
Thanks for making this wonderful collab video on JRPG's. From my end I want to mention three games that I think need some love & attention. Infinite Space a Platinum Games production on Nintendo DS; Suikoden 5 on PS2 and Mother 3 on SNES & GBA. I really think most of the JRPG lovers would love these games. Thank you.
Glad to see Xenoblade Chronicles 2 on the list. It's definitely deserving despite the controversy it had on the fanbase. It's a perfect example on how not to judge a book by its cover.
Thankfully, 3 out of 15 games that the creators had mentioned, I played it and I'm quite satisfied too (P5 Royal, Fire Emblem Echoes and Radiant Historia Perfect Chronology)... Other games that everyone mentioned in this video... I'll give it a try (minus PS games because I only have Nintendo Switch at the moment) As for my favorite, it's Trails of Cold Steel 4.
well some big classic here in this list , i'm a bit sad not to see more "underground" jrpg name like shadow hearts (2 is my absolute jrpg favorite! ), baten kaitos , xenosaga ( at least there is xenogear^^ ) or falcom game (but for the latter you are here thankfully !)
What a lovely collaboration. I made a list myself, and most of them were hit: Final Fantasy Tactics, Chrono Trigger, Xenogears, Suikoden II... there were a couple on my list that weren't - those being Legend of Heroes Trails in the Sky, and Breath of Fire IV. I know you said you'll be checking out Suikoden I and II when the remasters come out - you are in for a HUGE treat!
Fantastic list! Nailed what I call the "Holy Trinity" of Final Fantasy games. 6, Tactics and 9. Literally all the games listed were absolute bangers! Great video
The amount of work you and the great creators involved with this video must have had to put in to get this video across the finish line is more than commendable. Every pick a true winner. Had I contributed to this video, I would have chosen Breath of Fire 3. This is especially a good choice in my mind as no one else picked it but also that it encapsulates everything in a JRPG that I believe should be there. Thank you TKN and everyone involved, this is wonderful.
It's not Square Enix's fault that they make great games lol. I mean some of the best non Square Enix JRPGs are made by former Squaresoft staff regardless...so what do you want? Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon,The Last Story,Xenosaga,Xenoblade Chronicles, Mario and Luigi,The Alliance Alive,Moon Remix RPG,Koudelka,Shadow Hearts,The Legend of Legacy,Baten Kaitos,Ever Oasis and Magical Vacation all come from former Square staff.
The dude sucks. I sometimes suspect that he tries to hard to go against the grain because he wants to get views or something. The Kiseki nut on the other hand is a much better youtuber. He is also a purist and picks and chooses which jrpgs can bring change and which cannot. For example he criticized Final Fantasy for not being Final fantasy since FF10. All because it wasn't turn based anymore. I dunno what makes a random on the internet think he knows what makes a Final fantasy game more than the devs themselves but hey, thats just me. On the other hand he gushed about how great Yakuza Like a dragon was, despite that game introducing turn based combat. I guess his logic doesn't apply to Yakuza. Very weird guy
well Erick have amazing list, good for research, but he just isn't a nice guy, droped his streams or q&a so just back only for informative vids. Also somehow sensitive despite attitude, once ban me for joking about his sense of direction in open worlds is like Zorro form OP :D
In terms of 10/10 JRPG Masterpieces 1.) Chrono Trigger - Have not played but I can see it 2.) Final Fantasy IX - Disagree 3.) Final Fantasy VII: Remake - Disagree 4.) Final Fantasy Tactics - Have not played but I can’t see it 5.) Final Fantasy VI - Have not played but I can see it 6.) Xenoblade Chronicles 2 - HERE WE GO! ABSOLUTELY AGREE. One of the best games I have ever played in my life. While I think 3 is more of an objective masterpiece, 2 is personally my favorite of the series. THE MUSIC! It rivals Persona 5 for the best music I have ever heard in a video game. shoutout to The Twit Gamer. This is what I’m talking about. Above and beyond well deserved to be on this list. 7.) Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology - Have not played but I can see it. I always get a little excited whenever seeing this game. 8.) Ni No Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom - I have played the first game and I did not think it was good. The second game looks better. I think I can see it. 9.) Xenogears - I have only played the Xenoblade series of Xeno games. I would be more interested in playing Xenosaga over Xenogears. The game looks cool but I don’t know if I can see it. 10.) Terranigma - I have not played and it is true, I barely hear about this game but still. I don’t think I can see it. 11.) 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim - Oh, yes. FUCK yes. Top 5 JRPGs I have ever played. A straight up 9 out of 10 with the only aspect holding it back from a 10 being the combat. A masterpiece regardless. This game exceeded in exactly what it was trying to do. 12.) Persona 5: Royal - YEP. For the music and art style ALONE it is one of the best JRPGs of all time and a 10/10 masterpiece. While the narrative and characters left some to be desired, it is once again the TUNES and its STYLE that carry the game into being a greatest of all time JRPG. 13.) Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia - I have only played Three Houses in terms of Fire Emblem and was not fully impressed. I don’t know if I can see it. 14.) Suikoden 2 - I can see it! Never played a Suikoden but Suikoden looks like a masterclass in terms of mature JRPGs. 15.) Atelier Ryza 2 - I can see it. I have not played any Atelier but Gust reminds me of Falcom with the amount of love and attention to detail they put into their legacy of games. It is great to see videos like these now and then. Thank you Kiseki Nut
Chrono Trigger is considered such a beloved cult classic, and yet Square still refuses to release a remake on it. The Trials of Mana remake was fantastic.
Got a few good recommendations here so I decided to go on PSN and grab the ps4 versions of both final fantasy 6 and ni no Kuni 2 as well as the ps5 version of persona 5 royal, now definitely got a few great JRPGs to play in my spare time, thank you
My Fav JRPG game is Romancing Saga Minstrel Song. The music is so beautiful. The graphics may look weird but for me it's beautiful. It's like a moving painting
Lunar Eternal Blue, Dark Cloud 2, Rogue Galaxy, Secret of Mana, Grandia, Tales of Graces F, Lufia II, Star Ocean 2,Rune Factory 4 and most underrated Tokyo Xanadu eX+ deserved to be in too. Suikoden V, Dragon Quest IV, Persona 4, and Final Fantasy IV are great games too.
I can't be the only one who thought "RPG creator" meant game devs. Still, lovely video! I would recommend Golden Sun 1+2 (GBA) as a uniquely charming RPG. To me those were masterpieces.
My personal shoutout goes to Shadow Hearts 2. It was a PS2 game so trophies didn't exist but I cleared all content so I would have had a platinum trophy if it existed. It wasn't as overly and unnecessarily complicated as Shadow Hearts 3, and was not quite as dark and slow as Shadow Hearts 1. SH2 had one of the best cast of characters of any JRPG I've ever played, perfect tone, one of the best battle systems with the Judgement Ring. It was just a masterpiece game. I really wish the license hadn't been sold to a pachinko company, because we'll probably never see a rerelease. Other games not on this list already that deserve a shoutout are Xenosaga 1, Star Ocean 2, Tales of Graces f, and FF13-2 (the latter two being the only two games beside Borderlands 1 that I've platinum trophied)
I fully believe that the look of Final Fantasy 9 had MUCH more to do with it's lower sales than the timing of it's release did. Sure, I bought it and played it, but my hype was non-existent. I was pretty confused about their decision, after 8 cranked up the realism.
I have known about Terranigma for almost a decade. And while I doubt many casual RPG gamers who are mostly familar with modern games would have heard of it, I think RPG gamers who are much more knowledgeable of classic RPG's will be familar.
For me. My personal masterpiece rpg is dark cloud, I still have most of my ringtones set to the OSTs, the fights were awesome. I loved the world building and the party members. Just everything about it I love.
lol i was not expecting someone so jacked to pop up i was also not expecting someone to pick ff tactics. it was my favorite too. grinding and trying to get every character maxed out in all classes was so rewarding. also using a thief to steal unique items from bosses and other mobs felt so much better than other games with stealing mechanics. one i let my friend play and he accidentally overwrote my save and deleting god knows how many hundreds of hours. that was a painful day.
My game would have to be Chrono Cross. Came out for the PS1? Old game but an outstanding piece of work for it's time. The musical score is simply mesmerizing and the game play mechanics is one of the most unique and fun way to battle. And replay is high with the option to collect all the playable characters. Be sure to pick Leena in your first run
