In this video we will be covering ways to use a foam roller for low back pain.

Foam rolling is one of the most common and effective methods of relieving muscle tension, myofascial release, and deep tissue massage. In general, foam rolling is an excellent therapeutic tool for relieving tight muscles and creating more space in the body. Foam rolling is a great form of recovery for athletes, yogis, and anyone with a sedentary lifestyle.
In this foam rolling tutorial we will cover the following:
Lumbar Mobility
Supported Bridge Pose
Glutes and Piriformis
Hip Flexors
Hamstrings

I just started using a foam roller. I was just rolling up and down it like a fool. I started having muscule spasms so I did a Google search on the best ways to use a foam roller and found your video. It helped tremendously! Thank you so much!!!

As a runner who is training for a marathon, these foam rollers ru-vid.comUgkx9XSsjzA4f84VmhBCHlyhec7XILIxennL are really good for sore and tight muscles. This one is a good size (mine is the purple, 36 inches) not too big but big enough to work and roll both my legs at the same time - I took a photo holding the roller next to me just to provide a better representation of its size. I noticed some reviewers who complained that this is, “just a foam noodle”… and yes, that’s exactly what it is. It’s a high density foam roller. It is absolutely NOT the same consistency/strength/durability/ or texture as a ‘pool noodle’ thought and I disagree entirely with those that say so. As a former collegiate athlete and marathon runner, I’m comfortably giving this roller 5 stars. It’s lightweight and durable and does just what I need it to do at a budget-friendly price. Overall, I have no complaints and am happy with it!

I tried the hip flexor rolling the other day because I've been extremely tight and suffering from very intense lower back & hip flexor pain (I'm 23 and I've had this pain since I was 15!). I rolled so intensely that I was literally sweating and seeing stars (don't worry, my PT used to do the same thing). But the next day: POOF! No hip or back pain! It's amazing what rolling can do! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE VIDEO!! I feel SO much better!

I just bought a foam roller earlier today, do to bring tight in the hips and essentially everywhere else. This video has been very helpful with explaining different parts of the lower body and the different types of things you can do to stretch the lower body out. I’m excited to start my journey with a foam roller.

This foam roller workout has worked to get rid of my pain when nothing else, including physical therapy exercise, has. I usually do this foam rolling routine in the morning or afternoon. My question is: Is it OK to repeat this in the evening? Often my pain will start coming back around dinner time :(

I need to find exercises I can do that don’t stress my bad rotator cuffs. The few I could do feel great, especially the lower lumbar stretch but the other forms had me close to dislocating my bad shoulders. 🥺🥺

For how long should each movement be done?

Great question, ger boyd! The simplest way to practice these movements is to do them along with me. If you find that a particular movement feels good, you can always pause the video and stay there a bit longer (start with 5 breaths and work your way up to 30 seconds). Hope that helps! Foam rolling is an excellent way to relieve and prevent pain and create more space in the body to prevent injury, but again it's important to understand what's causing your issue before finding ways to help. Is it normal for the pain to be worse the next day? For about 30 mins once I’ve foam rolled I feel no pain or tightness, then the next day the pain seems to come back worse

I have been in pain with sciatica for the past 4 week. Desperate for some relief. Been attending physio and I'm sick of taking multiple pain killers! Would using the foam roller be beneficial to ease this?

Thank you very much for the tutorial,recently I hurt my back and couldn’t even bend over & do up my shoe laces for the last week After purchasing one of your rollers & doing the exercises just once I can bend over again.However my side lats are sore now ,is that normal and should I continue doing them gently or stop until they subside.

@@Kamishal Here is the link for the one I got. I got the 36" one. The medium density is hard enough to smash the muscle but soft enough to where it isn't extremely painful. You might be able to roll on a tennis/lacrosse ball in similar areas. It's going to be deeper but probably less upper body work.

I suffer from Advanced Arthritis of the Lower Spine and bought my first foam roller last week. I am using the TriggerPoint Grid and used your instructions and thought these exercises worked great. I'm on fifth day using the foam roller and am noticing some subtle improvements. Thank you for this tutorial.

I finished my yoga practice and realised terrible lower back pain, very strange as I'm very cautious about my lumbar spine. I decided to release the pain foam rolling and looked up YT and found your amazing tutorial. I can't express the relief I got from your video. Calm, soothing voice and such an informative video. Ngl I’ve had the worst back pain lately.. so I thought using a foam roller would be a good place to start. After searching about it I started to read so much about the dangers of foam rolling the lower back which made me a bit reluctant to trying it. Honestly after doing this routine once I felt so much relief. I will be continuing to follow this! Definitely recommend 🙌🏼☺️

Unbelievable! I have been in terrible pain for a couple of days. I have a high pain tolerance and it has been up to an eight. Your class brought me down to a one or two. In a matter of 15 minutes. That’s incredible. I think people would have to try this to believe it LOL!

This was such an informative and well put together foam roller session. I love my foam roller but it’s always so helpful to be reminded of placement and shown additional ways to use the foam roller. My piriformis and side glute were especially tight and I thought it was my lower back that was bothering me, crazy how connected the body really is!

I couldn’t sleep because my back started hurting. I do weightlifting and my hamstrings and glutes got tight. Feel much better
