Another classic Chinese noodle recipe is this Sarawak Kolo Mee! It's an easy, dry noodle recipe using springy egg noodles coated in a flavourful, rich pork and shallot oil sauce.
Topped off with a generous amount of minced pork, char siew and vegetables, this recipe is an easy fix especially for work day lunch meal.
Psst, you can buy store bought char siu from Cold Storage Deli or make it yourself here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lme4oMEjFPs.html

At first I thought she was your sister but watching her on the video looked like your mother, but then you both made eye contact and couldn't cheat, it is like a mom like son. You are both so happy and how lucky you are to still have the chance to make videos together with your precious mom! I miss my mom! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Where do you get this recipe from? Kolo mee isnt this complicated. The taste is supposed to be simple. Probably should label it as some alternative char siew mian recipe.

Flat fish powder and Zhe jiang vinegar?? Can somebody englighten me. What are those and where can I find them?
@recoil53
@recoil53 2 года назад
You can get them at Amazon, if there is no Chinese grocery in your area. Flat fish powder is just dried flounder that is ground up. Zhe Jiang vinegar is also known as black vinegar. There can be a lot of variance there.

@@RizkyAna I forgot to say, Bonito Flakes or Dashi powder are reasonable substitutes for flat fish powder. Not entirely the same, close enough.

how to make the char siew tho?
@recoil53
@recoil53 2 года назад
Pretty easy, you can use pork shoulder (traditional), pork tenderloin or pork loin. You can buy a premade sauce or make a hoisin based sauce. Marinade overnight. I've had my best results on grill, hardwood charcoal, low fire, indirect heating. But the oven is decent.

Hello! I'm not trying to be anal here cause I get you're trying to be innovative. I've followed some of your recipes in the past and appreciate what you put up to this channel, but calling this dish kolo mee is kind of a stretch D: The title itself proves that cause kolo mee is actually called 哥罗面 and not 干捞面. The essence of kolo mee is in the noodles and while you may have the flavour components down (sourness from the vinegar, sweetness from the char siew, fragrance from the lard oil and onion oil, heat from the chillis), you can't possibly re-create the taste of the noodles using egg noodles (it's just not possible). Again, not trying to discourage you but as a Sarawakian, I got more than excited when I saw the title and more than put off when I finished watching the whole thing. Maybe you got the inspiration for this innovative recipe from a genuinely good bowl of kolo mee, liked the taste and wished to add layers to it. If so, you could mention this and give it a different name without misleading viewers to think that this video shows what the original recipe looks like cause it's so much simpler as other commenters have pointed out :) Anyway, these opinions are ultimately just my personal views! Please keep up the good work with your innovative recipes!

Hey Aaron! Thank you for sharing your insights on the dish. Ours isn't meant to be authentic, we just made it to reminisce the days we were able to go to Malaysia with ease to enjoy their food. It's hard to find authentic Kolo Mee stalls in Singapore, so we whipped up our own version of the recipe, but also giving credits to where it's originated from :)
