Danny Kaye was a phenomenal talent! He never attempted to draw attention away from costars, he complimented them. That way everyone was brilliant. His ego wasn't ever an issue. I ceased watching TV years ago, too much garbage. I much prefer it when people have manners, dress decently, respect themselves and others, speak in sentences that are easily understood and behave in a way that makes you even more proud to be a fan. Our world could certainly benefit from more respect for self and others, dignity, compassion and grace.
❤ Even though Danny Kaye was never known as a jazz singer it is when I heard him sing the inchworm in the film that is stuck with me that I took my inspiration for that song that’s stuck with me for the rest of my life so that every time I sang it, I thought of him I thought he gave it real life
I grew up with ALL of them! Such amazing talents! We have lost them all. Though we have movie stars today, the glitz ,glamour and sophistication of yesterday is gone forever.
Jan 2020 been watching since before god lol. I’m 65, and watched every pioneer in the industry. The 50’s were exciting when Tv exploded and most all had a little black n white the entire family watched. Our pioneers were incredible and no movies will EVER hold a candle to these greats! They’ll have to surpass them. Danny was supremely talented in his dancing singing and acting but my fave was Hans Christian Anderson because he really loved and treasured that role, as he said in an interview back then. Treasured pioneer!!! 🙏🏻❤️
I love this so much so happy I happened upon your channel - remember watching him growing up. I miss talent - REAL talent like this. Thankful for people like you who share this with us! This was wonderful!!
They looked like so much to each other physically and spiritually, plus same humor sense, they would surely have made a wonderful couple in real life 👌💖
Thanks Buzz for posting this wonderful clip. You know the world today just doesn't understand what real entertainment can be.The celebrities truly enjoyed sharing their talents; today its all about money and fame. Thank goodness for the real entertainers who are with us always as long as we have video tape and RU-vid and people like you!
I met a jazz singer who new Louis Armstrong personally. Only his closest friends called him “Pops”. I saw him perform live in the early 60’s on Toronto. Looked the same in person but his rapport with a live audience was amazing!
I am getting more and more into Danny Kaye performances. He is reallly entertaining, funny and sophisticated in his way. So wonderful to see these vintage videos. Quite the personality Danny Kaye. I just feel a smile and some gentle tears in my eyes
I remember seeing the Lucille Ball segment on TV as a kid. I even remembered the "Don't put that green stuff in it" line. For two people who never had a voice, dancing, or acting lesson, they did OK.
A very great and multi-talented Danny Kaye. --- unique. Truly one of the two GREATEST entertainers of the 20th Century, along with, of course, Mr. Sinatra. NOBODY could DO IT ALL like Danny. A genius...and also great humanitarian. 👍💎👍🎯
I miss the fun and talent of the old entertainers like Danny Kay, Jerry Lewis, Lucile Ball, Louis Armstrong and so many more. The good old song and dance variety shows. 😃😃👋👋♥♥
Sure there are. The Voice, America/Britain(is that the British one?) Has Talent and American Idol( is that the one?). But no, there are not many entertainers who have honed their craft to an art like Mr. Armstrong and Mr. Kaye, sadly. Fantabulous!!!
Puts me in mind of the Waldolf. New York and all. Back table they put us. Table of five. Right by the kitchen. BEST DINNER EVER. So the Chef comes out. Talks to us all. God Bless Him. Putting his girl through school. Us being all from the restaurant business and all, hugs and kisses and check our bank accounts after tipping. Off to the Show.
Most definitely. I remember as a little girl watching The Bob Hope Christmas special with my mom every year. The closest thing anymore is Michael Buble’s Christmas Special but there’s not dancing like before.
Yes, if those critics only saw what we have now for entertainment.😢 Danny Kaye was great and no matter how many times I’ve seen the “Court Jester” I crack up laughing. “White Christmas” holds a special place in my heart as well. I’m only in my 40’s but well remember the days of the Bob Hope specials on TV, fun, wholesome family shows like Carol Burnette, The Muppets, the wonderful Christmas and patriotic shows that were on. When I was in college I sang in “Rosemary Clooney’s White Christmas Show.” She was the last living main cast member of “White Christmas” and there really was a sadness about that. She spoke of each of her starring cast members and as I look back, it really was an end of an era.
My Dad would hire Harry for “The Boulevard” supper club in Queens in the 50’s, and sing Day-O with him! I met Harry in Manhattan later on when I grew up. He was walking home on the upper west side of NYC. He’s so gracious, generous, and loved that we escorted him home totally entertained by just listening to him. He loved it. I wish I knew my Dad hired him back in the day. He would have loved reminiscing about that time. What an amazing talent. I love them all in this video. Danny Kaye so amazing! Lucille gave some much as a comic! And Louis!! Wow! Those were times to be born in. Not the overly tech world it is now and getting more robotic. I’m sure Harry found ppl walking down the streets of Manhattan glued to their phones quite odd. I’m sure barely anyone noticed him being fixed to their phones, missing out on these amazing souls passing them by. Love them all… 🙏🙏🙏🙏
A true master of physical comedy, uninhibited (yet controlled) dancing. Great singer, performer and actor. Chef, pilot, humanitarian. They truly do not make them like this anymore.
I remember being 8 years old the first time i saw him. After that, I could never get enough. I loved him like a family member. I used to imagine that he was an uncle of mine and one day he would come home and we would sing and dance all day, every day. He was the bright light in the darkness of my childhood. RIP Danny, you were loved by so many people that you never even met
I thought I was the only one who felt like that! I used to imagine he would arrive at my door some day and take me with him. I just wanted so badly to be his child. His warmth and kindness radiated right through the TV screen and made me feel loved and protected. I'm in my 70's and I still tear up remembering how much he meant to me.
I always thought Lucille Ball was highly influenced and practically mimicking Danny Kayes act , and was later pleasantly surprised when I learned that she starred in shows with Danny Kaye. She really loved him, and apparently Danny Kaye loved Lucille Ball too. ❤️🕊️☮️
Special memories growing up watching Danny Kaye with my dad. He never got the credit he really deserved for all his talent! I dont know many that could do the tongue twisters like him. He sang, danced and acted beautifully, and seeing biographies about him being insecure makes you wonder why? He was amazing! I always thought he was a good looking guy, yet they critisized his features. I thought in his height he was an elegant dancer, and his voice was just as good as the rest. Today's actors can't even do half of what the old "vaudeville" types could do. So sad to see that era go. I think it's time for a comeback of those talents. The humor was outstanding.
I’m jealous. Although I wasn’t exposed to anything of my era until I was a teenager. I grew up with all the greats from the 30s to 70s. I had a cassette player in my room and my own bunch of cassettes my parents copied from their own or from their LPs and one of them was Danny Kaye the Hans Christian Andersen soundtrack. I loved that one so much. I also had tommy Steele and Doris day just to name a couple more. I did get into modern music, movies and entertainment as a teen and up until my early 30s but I then reverted back to the good stuff.
Absolutely wonderful My smile never left my face ☺️ Now that's entertainment When the world was still so good I'm 54 and this was just what the doctor ordered!!
I had a huge crush on Danny Kate as a girl. He was so talented. I remember I never missed any of his TV shows, and watching his movies was a bonus. My crush on Danny was so huge that I married a red-headed man.
Wonderful actor, singer, and humanitarian (his work with UNICEF and other children's organizations was phenomenal!). It's still hard to believe that he's gone - R.I.P. Mr. Kaye.
@@anaamaro70 Not true. He had a very successful second career - he was a brilliant cook and an expert on Asian food. He may well have been lonely however, because in his later years in became extremely unpleasant.
Danny and Harry: Momma Got a Boo Boo - superlative! It was a family favourite. Danny brought peace into an otherwise dysfunctional household just because we all loved him. And Harry Belafonte too. What a magical twosome.
Thank you for making this delightful video, entertainment today can't hold a candle to these fine people. Danny Kaye, Dean Martin, Jackie Gleason, Red Skelton - all wonderful family shows. So nice to be able to see them again and reminisce.
