I'm turning 70 and was taught years ago that spending money on good classic pieces will always be a good investment. I've lived by that fashion rule and along the way would slip trendy pieces in to look updated. Love this video you've hit all the right points!

I just turned 65 and I'm in the same camp as you. Here in the USA, too many women wear athleasure wear and I felt like a fish out of water. Lately I have noticed the move towards classic pieces, such as shirt dresses this past summer. We're finally coming back to wearing decent clothes and I love it❤️
Also when you buy, try to get the best you can afford because if you take care of whatever garment you have, it will take care of you. I own one silk shirt and 2 wool sweaters that I bought when I was your age. They're still in great shape and i pull them out every so often. BTW, I just turned 65 so these are 40 year old garments in classic colors and cuts that still work.
Recently found your channel and I loving it.At nearly 70 I still love classic cloths and dressing up. I never leave home without my hair well combed and my make up on. Even so I feel I am learning from your channel, your ideas are challenging me to try new things. I totally agree that elegance is not just about expensive cloths but more about the person in them.
I'm 15/15 on your very well curated list. All of these pieces are essential for a timeless, classic wardrobe that is always on point. I would add 5 more, the first 3 in black: knit crew or cardigan, a turtleneck, silky camisole or tank top ... and lastly an amazing silk scarf in colors that flatter your skin tone, as it's worn close to the face. These essential layering pieces will elevate your look both casual and dressy... while jewelry and accessories always radiate against black. So what's the 5th component you ask? A "beauty" regimen ...supple, moisturized skin, light makeup to enhance your features, manicured nails, and a signature fragrance... because femininity is non-negotiable if your goal is elegance, at any age! xo
Love how you always mention classic pieces! Trends are great, and introducing a few that suit you into your wardrobe is a good idea. But all time classics that will last you, and make sure you're always put together are even better!!
Would love for you to make a video featuring specific good quality examples, that will be staples in one's wardrobe for years to come. It would be helpful to know which retailers are your favourite, where you know you'll get timeless pieces. In Canada because a few retailers have closed in the last few years, I tend to buy more clothes online. So being aware of great brands that are reasonably priced would be great! One item I'm finding hard to find is a good quality white blazer (that doesn''t have linen, so I can wear it year round).
Love this! I actually prefer earrings to a watch because I just look at my phone to tell the time. I rarely wear watches or bracelets, they just seem to get in the way. Can't go wrong with a classic pair of earrings

Would you consider doing a video for various body shapes. For example, a white blouse worn by differently shaped models? Most of the models are thin and look good in everything, a mature women with a few bumps may not be able to pull off the same looks, or need to adapt them for their shape. Thanks
Jenn H. Thanks for the great tips Jenn H! Will be purchasing a white blouse based on your suggestion. Also, will be shopping for a sheer, yet not too sheer blouse to camouflage the arms I am toning down.
That’s a great idea and if you do different body types also include women who may have a stomach because as life progresses your body changes and you have no control over it because of health reasons.
A wonderful piece of advice that I’ve followed for years, one should always buy the best one can afford, and staying with neutral pallets really pays dividends when put a wardrobe together

Find them second hand. Many of these pieces can work for college. I'd start with a good blazer and handbag. They will come in handy if you decide to get a job and need an interview outfit. Wear a white tee and heels (or ballet flats) with the blazer and you'll look great.

B K I worked an all leather one for 20 years before they were even trendy so it’s no longer a thing for me. Not opposed to them they’re very useful! My style has certainly changed. Like I wore men’s watches when I was in my teens (long before the trend) and now I’m dying for a small dainty woman’s watch. I did keep my old leather crossbody bag because the leather was superb and I religiously maintained it. Enjoy whatever style suits you. Be yourself. Be happy in wearing what makes you most happy is what’s important. Wishing you much success in all things!
@B K Not an expert as I mentioned I used the same one for 20 years BUT it was a Fossil one (they own Burberry) and the leather is still magnificent as I took good care of it. There's lots to choose from. Perhaps Gemma could do a video on that topic @fashionover40. Sorry, I'm not much of a help to you. But like Gemma I chose something classic (some might say understated) but good quality leather. Good luck to you!
I do not normally agree with these "elegant" videos, but for the most part, you are spot on. The jeans are off the mark because jeans are subjective to taste more so than a style. For example, the jeans with holes or a fringed hem is a trend and cannot really be considered elegant if only a handful of people like it. Trench coats, dresses, pants, and blouses are elegant based on the make--the cut and quality--and how they are worn. A cheap trench coat from Walmart is going to fit like a bathrobe and wearing flip flops with a little black dress would kill it.
All good advice but these looks ALWAYS look better on a slim figure, it's not so obvious when the figure you had at 30 or 40 isn't quite the same as when you're 60 +. It would be great if you could show us what looks great on a figure that has gained a few too many pounds over the years ;-)
@PearlPerlita Venegaswell good for you, you must still be slim to make a comment which is a bit harsh and unfeeling. All ladies who care how they dress would love to lose their extra pounds but it's not always so easy depending upon circumstances. I work hard to lose mine but it's a constant struggle made more difficult by a physical injury, not an excuse, just a reason. Meanwhile, I still like to look good and would welcome tips on dressing better whilst trying to reshape my body.

You speak as though you consider yourself part of a collective group, in comradery, when in truth you are singling yourself out as being _better than_ those who weigh more; in your eyes. Obesity, and comorbidities resulting from, are not *bankrupting* your joke of a healthcare system, not the private sector, not the Government owned, and not the for-profit sector. The fact that you'd take a platform that's designed to make women feel good about themselves and use it to vent your disdain of anyone who carries a few extra pounds speaks leagues to your character. Paired with the fact that you feel somehow superior to anyone, in any sense, it's laughable. Yes, you're right, _some_ people need to stop making excuses, excuses for their poor character and poor behavior.
My wardrobe is classic/ elegant & monochromatic & every piece is interchangeable with all the other pieces, which gives me versatility & I don't follow trends that are in one year & out the next, I have a capsule wardrobe which gives me endless different looks.
A very nice selection of interchangeable elegant garments. I also feel if you gain weight or your garments become worn or tattered, they should be replaced. Also taliored pieces of clothes gives a very polished look. My moto is quality over quantity.
Love classic designed clothes! Unfortunately I am plus size and not a lot of blazers, jackets, or coats are made for me. I am also tall, long arms and legs, with long skinny feet. But I keep looking
Absolutely! Camel, beige, anything in the brown family does not suit me. My neutrals are black, navy, grey and white. A lovely black or navy coat would Look fabulous.
You're quite lovely, I just wanted to ask if you ever thought to go gray and to quit the dye? I find that dye is unflattering at times and gray is oh so beautiful and elegant. There are all kinds of women on social media supporting this movement if you need support along the journey...if you ever decide to. Much love!
