15 Retailers Going Out Of Business In 2024

The American retail landscape isn't the same as it was just a few years ago. Businesses that used to be a synonym of success are dying at a pace that is simply astonishing. Brands that used to have thousands of stores across the U.S. are going out of business after struggling for years. Many of them have done everything they could to prevent this from happening, or at least, delay their disappearance. But the economic decline gripping our nation has been unforgiving.
Over the past few years, we've lost more purchasing power than at any other point since the 1970s. We've seen the income gap get wider, with many middle-class Americans falling into the cracks and straight into poverty. The soaring cost of living has made it almost impossible for average U.S. households to save for their future. People are being very careful about their spending because, with each passing month, the cost of bare necessities like rent, food, and gas is getting higher.
That's why seeing boarded up storefronts has become the new normal. In this environment, American retailers are literally fighting for their survival. Now, they are taking every step to streamline their operations and cut costs. That includes reducing their store count even further in order to improve profitability and save their businesses from bankruptcy.
Although for some of them that's too little, too late, others are acting fast before conditions deteriorate any further. If you have a favorite brand or store, make sure to visit it while you can, because the truth is that it might not be there a few months from now. Today, we listed 15 big retailers that announced mass store closings or are going out of business in 2024. Without further ado, let's check out this list.

We Are in Unchartered Financial Waters! every day we encounter challenges that have become the new standard. Although we previously perceived it as a crisis, we now acknowledge it as the new normal and must adapt accordingly. Given the current economic difficulties that the country is experiencing in 2024, how can we enhance our earnings during this period of adjustment? I cannot let my $680,000 savings vanish after putting in so much effort to accumulate them.

You have a very valid point, I started investing on my own and for a long time, the market was really ripping me off. I decided to hire a CFA, even though I was skeptical at first, and I beat the market by more than 9%. No! You can thank Joe Biden and his massive money printing campaign that is devaluing our dollars. People on fixed incomes are buying much less which has a ripple effect and is spiraling into a recession because boomers are one of the largest segments of our society and they are now retiring and living on fixed incomes. If you keep electing Democrats you will continue to get high inflation and a declining economy.

The dirty secret is that the very government spending that is consuming society like an ulcer, gets magically counted as part of gdp. For that reason, the public is not having the proper discussion: has marginal productivity of [federal] debt gone negative? Some have not heard that idea before, so the plain english version... a dollar borrowed causes the economy to shrink instead of provide an anemic 0.2% growth or some such as it did before the threshold was crossed. What it looks like in a boots on the ground way is borrowing more cannot even serve existing debt interest due in full, and therefore makes the debt problem ever bigger. And then the music stops. I think the US may have silently crossed the rubicon at the end of 2023 - note the fed threw up its hands and stopped raising rates. The last time they gave up on program was 2005, when M3 disapeared from all efforts. BLS numbers have been garbage for decades - and that discussion likely only begins in earnest when a number of countries just dump bonds en masse. They have a place to run to now for international settlements, and its brics.

Taxes keep going up up up, and people demanding more more more entitlements (Social Security, Medicare, foreign aid, pork budget, cancel student debt) . It's not sustainable. We live in a society where the Government says, take the vaccine, shut your business down, or we'll force your business to shut down and throw you in jail. I disagree with you - there is nothing wrong with buying products and goods - it is what built society. I think what you stated here hit the bullseye. Your statment except for 1 person appears to be ignored or seemed to go over peoples heads, Or maybe it's the truth burns like holy water kind of thing. It's easier to choose to disregard it as no one reacted to it. "Being pushed-on line" You sugested something here that never occured to me. No workers at 20.oo an hour to hire, no rent, electric, heat & no air conditioning bills. Thats going to really do a number on the local economy and the neighborhoods.

@@richardbartolo2890 Yes It is cheaper for the rich to place US where they want US. The billionaires want America controlled. They are suppose to be caretakers from Spirit. They are not. It is about MONEY OVER HUMANITY. They want an oligarch society similar to China and its government with them at the top. Trickle Down Economics and Project 2025 is their agenda. The 50 cent army of telling government who the protesters are is the same as the religious right zealots here in MAGA. MAGA at the top like Trump work for the western billionaires. They want a British Church of England from the Gilded Age 1800s to rule society while the rich are in their king oligarch control of the economy. They want to go backwards while we suffer under their ego pride and earthly power. I hope you can see this. China's rich government elites are mercenaries in consciousness of Emperors from their past that use torture to stop the cognitive brain function of critical thinking. The western billionaire rich treat US like frogs in boiling water; putting US to sleep and when we wake up our cognitive thinking is changed to what THE RICH want. Same agenda - different methods. I hope this makes sense to you. Good Fortune to you and yours.

My biggest concern is whether I'll survive after retirement.

The flip side of extreme inflation is deflation and we're starting to see it as Ikea, Michael's, Walmart and Target roll back prices. Another indicator is fast food chains offereing $5 meal deals. If you can remember back to 2008-2012 there was $5 footlongs and other $5 deals. We're facing the stock market and average wages falling by 50-75%

When every company is all GIMME GIMME GREEDY GREEDY and pays terribly, this is what you get. people are lucky to be able to afford their housing, utilities and food. There's no money for much of anything else. and I feel bad for anyone who actually needs a car. $800 a month payment $300 a month insurance $3.50 a gallon gas. Gee I wonder why van life is so popular! Maybe cause you can't afford both a house and a car, so they live in the car cause they still gotta work to afford that CAR that is literally as expensive as a house.
