Wow! This is a Masterclass in dressing to look taller. At 5'1" in my 70s, while I've discovered many of these tips over the years, this refresher has highlighted a few bad habits developed, especially in retirement as my style morphed from Classic with a Twist to Sporty Chic. It has been sooooo easy to be hijacked by contrasting footwear, oversized anything, when a cropped jacket and accessories to scale work so much better. Thank you, thank you, thank you. This video is one to Save, Repeat, Repeat. You're amazing!
Finally found someone who understands the challenges we petites face on a daily basis. So glad this popped up in my feed. I'm 5ft and have adapted many clothes but this has given me a fresh perspective. I've always avoided high-rise jeans as I thought they would restrict my movement and be uncomfortable but will now try a pair. Also I don't feel safe in high heels so have always worn flats, definitely motivated to try some espadrilles and short block heels. Thank you for a great video ❤
Wearing very high shoes with a high platform will always be the best, and much more if you combine the tips that appear in the video. There are several very tall shoes that are very comfortable and easy to walk in, you just have to find the right ones. You could easily be almost 5'7" tall and with the right clothing you can appear taller visually.
Please do a video on best spring jackets to wear over puffy sleeved tops without ruining your top or outfit. Always need that extra layer for air conditioning in the restaurant, etc. Thanks for your help!
I am going to make one more comment here. Dressing can change your life. I had a really bad pregnancy with child in NICU for 63 days. he was then a projectile vomiter for about 4 months. I wore the same two sweat suits the whole time (emergency C-section, followed by ICU for me for 3 days). I had to throw those sweats out and we had to throw the couch out. The carpet cleaners were called in often, and finally they said they couldn't save it, they couldn't get the smell out. But I had to do what I had to do. Once I put on some decent clothes, everything changed for me. I felt better, I starting paying attention to hair and makeup again. Fast forward to when the child is 11. I had 1/3 of my colon removed, with a 6 month recovery. The first appointment back to the doctor, he said, what are you wearing? Most people are in the sweet pants phase. I had on a loose T-shirt dress and flats. The dress was great, it didn't bind me anywhere that hurt. It wasn't fancy, but put together. So I told him my theory about getting up and getting dressed! it really improves your outlook to look nice.
The tip about taking a pic of yourself is so true! I started doing that a few years ago after I saw a pic of myself in an outfit that wasn't the most flattering. When I originally saw it in the mirror, it looked good, but the pic showed a different perspective!
It really does help us to know for sure! It's like another set of eyes on the outfit. Plus helpful in organizing outfits to plan out for down the road! xo
Petite girl here 🙋🏻♀️I always love wearing my wedges and flare or bootcut high rise jeans. Makes me feel so much taller and more confident. Erin, your makeup today is stunning. Please consider a tutorial on it. You look beautiful ❤
Thanks so much! Makeup routine is very similar to this recent video that I shared all of my tips on: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rCF-I34Kclc.html
Hi Erin, I’m 5”3 and these are some great suggestions. I always feel really short when I don’t have heels on but I don’t always want to wear heels. I love all the options in looking and feeling taller. 🌷🌷
I have finally started buying pants in petite length, and got on board with high waisted. I don't wear elevated shoes often, mostly flats, so these tips help. I am hourglass shaped, shorter torso with longer legs, and I want to look taller because I want to look leaner, I'm a little thicker than I ought to be, but that's okay. These tips really help, thank you!!
Really loved your tone in this video! You made it clear you can wear whatever you want and certain outfits aren’t “wrong”, it’s just that these specific tips will make you look taller 😊. Great job ❤
Hi Erin, as a petite women I really appreciate your tips. You have a lovely style. Happy early mother's day to you & all mothers watching. ❤ take care. Thank you for all your recommendations.
Thank you Erin for this video. I wanted to take this time to say I appreciate you and all that you do on your channel. You make me smile and feel good when I watch you. I've learned so much how to dress my 5 foot frame while going through "the change of life". I feel more confident and special thanks to you!!!! ❤🧡💛💜🤍💖
Hi Erin, thank you from us ladies who are vertically challenged. I am what science calls the “recessive gene”. My Mom and Dad are 6 ft, bro over 6 and multiple girl first cousins over 6. Dang! Clocking in at 5’2”
I am also 5'2, but I am from short Irish people, maybe Pictish in our background? Everyone in my husband's family is over 6' , but he is 5'8". Our son is depressed. He topped out at 5'7". But he is handsome and dresses well, and the girls like him.
If it's any consolation, it's so much easier to be a petite woman than to clock in as a 6" plus female. Much easier to fine vertically fitting men to date. 🤣
I'm only 5' 1" and I don't think 5' 4" is that short. I am older (a senior) and cannot wear high heels anymore. I don't wear flats either and CANNOT wear pointed toe shoes. I do not work anymore so don't need dressy shoes for work. The only shoes I can wear are wedge sneakers but not high wedges. I also can wear small ankle boots with a no more then 1 1/2 inch heel. I also don't have a car and have to walk to a bus stop and some bus stops do not have a bus bench, so have to just stand there. It is very hard for me to wear most shoes. I cannot wear "sky high heels." Try walking to bus stops, having to also transfer to other buses. When you are 5' 1" it is hard to look taller and don't have much choices for shoes. I also never wear white or pale color pants. Only wear dark color high rise pants but I still am short. I cannot wear high wedges, not safe when walking and getting off and on buses and some sidewalks uneven. Have you tried walking to a bus stop, standing and waiting sometimes a long time when bus is running late or do you wear high heels but have a car?
It's always important to wear the things that work and make sense for you, your body, and your unique lifestyle. What works best for me may not be what works for you, but a lot of these tips are universal! Wearing shoes that match your pants will always elongate, as well as shoes that match your skin tone when you have a shorter hemline on. xo
Great tips Erin. The opposite is also true, if you are a very tall and/or traditionally built lady you may want to avoid disproportionately small bags.
YAY!!! I love that you brought this back, Erin. I absolutely LOVE all your past videos that have these types of topics. This is such a great refresher. 😊❤️
Thank you for this! I've always wondered about your lighting/filming set up so thank you for showing us. You always look fabulous. And I love how you're wearing dark shoes with the long white dress.
Thank you Erin, my interest piqued at "petite" being only 5ft & a pear shape, so not so easy to look elegant. Have already incorporated high rise trousers & jeans, cropped jackets, have always liked the monochromatic look, as being vertically challenged I've never felt I can cope with to many colours, my limit is 3 at most & all tonal. Will now be working on the foot wear I've got neutral shades, but will be adding more pointed toes with skin tone shades. I've actually brought my self lovely a white dress last year but to afraid to wear it, so scared I'd drop something down it or get it dirty somehow, but might be brave enough to wear it this year :) Thank you again Erin for all the great tips. X
Mirror selfies are amazing in the amount of objectivity they give. You wouldn't think it, but it really works! And who knows what you want to look like better than yourself - with an objective viewpoint?! Great tips!
Another amazing video! You always look so classy and fashionable. Erin,I’m 5’11 with a slim hourglass shape and wear everything including heels, loose fit jeans, wide leg trousers, bell bottoms and shorts.Never embraced skinny jeans and found them to be ugly, not sure why. However will admit that even with shapely legs I’ve never been a fan of mini dresses. They just look tacky and was always concerned of revealing more than I wanted.
I am the shortest one of my girlfriends, when we get together, l am the one who always looks more stylish and put together because l followed these rules for decades. I learned by trial and error, back in the day (Gen x girl) we only had fashion magazines. Watching your video and other fashion RU-vid influencers l hope others will know how small changes....no pun intended make a huge difference. Thank you Erin
I'm already tall and want to look smaller but either way matching the shoe colour looks way more tidy, stylish and satisfying to the eye. Will definitely take this onboard.
I LOVE jumpsuits for feeling thinner and taller. I had quite a few back in the 90's (?) or whenever they were popular. I haven't found one lately that I like. I've always heard to wear darker shoes than your hem but I see a lot of women on tv, QVC, HSN, etc. who wear nude or light colored shoes or boots with dark pants and skirts so I've been a little confused. I almost always wear shoes with a little or a lot of heel; I feel taller and better than with flat sandals or shoes. Love your tips, I've followed a lot of these "rules" for many years. I realize I can break the rules and still look ok!
I'm 5'7 and have a tough time with jumpsuits and many pants, my torso is long. Most high rise hit below my belly button or more like a mid rise. I want to wear a peplum top, cant find a good fit there either. And i struggle to tuck bc i am a rectangle shape with a bit of a wider saddlebag when my weight is up. My bust is small so it isnt a good look, on me, imo. No belly here. I would love for you to feature some other body types. I saw this in your older content, but not recently. Video is great Erin, and you are beautiful and brilliant as always, i enjoy the content. And i am going to try the monochromatic look.
I totally agree with you! Besides, your appearance is perfect: nice hairdo, nice make up, nice earrings. I do the same job as you but with adding an outstanding detail to the outlook. Congratulations.
Hi Erin! Let me start by saying that I think you are the best dressed lady I follow. I love your picks, tips and ideas. Thank you so much! Also, your hair always looks fabulous, how do you do it, maybe a hair product vlog? 😊
So glad I have come across your wonderful videos! I think most women would love to wear high heels more often but they are just so uncomfortable. I, for example, need to walk from my house to the subway for about 5 min and by the time I am there all my hopes for high heels (not very high...) are gone. My feet hurt terribly and the next day I am in my sneakers again. Can you give some recommendations for shoe companies that sell soft, comfortable high heels? You mentioned wedges, yes they are great, but often the seams rub against my skin or the sole is hard and stiff. Even high end brands don't seem to be much better when it comes to chic, wearable shoes for women that give us that look you are talking about and that I would love to have. Thanks and you look fabulous!
I am not petite (5'10") but I still enjoyed this video. Would you please do the same type of video for those of us who are taller and how to apply principals to suit our frames. I have a long torso so cropped shirts and jumpsuits don't always work for me. 😀
Hi Erin, love your videos!! Can I add one more trick? Sleeves that fall over your hands can make you look (and feel) short. If you can’t have a garment tailored, cuff the sleeves to show your hands. Thanks for all your great advise!!
Great video Erin given me a good insight into keeping that looking Tall.. I’m 5”4 and I had remarks on being tall when I’m Not I do like my heels it’s my power dressing..I feel good in heels and you look amazing in your heels 👠 thank you Erin ❤
Great tips! and they make sense. Thank you for addressing petite issues (and shorter leg). I can still apply these tips even though I decided going forward I'm going to be wearing heels no more than 2-ish inches. I don't buy anything taller than that anymore (except for platofrm heels that equaled a 1.5 - 2 inch difference front to back). Just too old to suffer that much for fashion, lol.
I love your videos also Erin ❤ I'm 5'1 and short waisted, so for length, I do not wear high-rise pants/jeans, but mid-rise and I usually match my belt to my top, so it's looks as though I have a torso 😊 I'm more of a sporty girl ❤ I am able to incorporate much of your advice ❤ You have a lovely soul ❤❤❤
Sorry but the jumpsuit has got a major issue : the time and fuss it takes when you go to the bathroom ; if you're busy or on a travel (where the top part might fall down over the generally dirty toilet floor in the plane or at the airport...)it can really get a nuisance, having to lower the sleeves, undo the button or zipper, whereas no need to remove your top if you wear trousers. Now I read somewhere that some film stars with excellent couturières or toucher'ups have them sew a very discreet, hidden zipper, thus solving all the problem.
I've been on the hunt for a good summer cropped jacket! The trend is out there for teens and young ladies, but I'm scouting for my size in sophisticated style. I have high hopes : )
I often take outfit selfies. Really helps. I already incorporate the majority of these. V neck tops are more flattering for me and I hope wide legs jeans become classic because I love them. Beautiful white dress. I found a maxi one at Anthro which is made if linen which will be great for Summer. Sezane makes beautiful pieces. Great video Erin!
thanks for this Erin! I am 5' 2" and love these tips to look taller! I am definitely going to try the white on white kind of colors....that's something I never do. Have a great day!
Hi beautiful Erin.. First I have to tell you that dress is absolutely gorgeous, and your hair and make up are so beautiful. The dress looks Big skipped place Scroll down. Sorry amazing on you. I tell you all the time I have learned soooo much from you. I have watched you so long, but every video I learn something new. Who knew that a smaller purse would make a difference...it did. I love your new jeans ..so cool. I think I told you I finally found a pair of comfortable neutral heels ( not real high...I have a torn disc and two bulging discs so have stability issues right now ) but they are from Dream Pairs. They are probably not the highest quality, but to be able to wear heels again Is huge for me. Erin, I have a cropped jumpsuit ( it's actually cropped on me even at 5'2") and for some reason I have not worked up the courage to wear it...I am going to this summer with my new heels..jumpsuit is kind of taupe. Thanks for showing us some pictures of what you wore to Africa. As always Erin, I am so thankful for you...after all we have to get dressed every day ..might as well do it the best we can..loved that . I think Travis wanted go be in the video today..he was trying to tell you . Haveca great rest of the week.♡♡♡♡♡♡
Love this! Plus I’m so glad that you took photos for your trip. I just asked my niece to come and see what I plan on packing for Europe. I call her “brutally honest Meredith”. 😂. On a side note, my husband just said to me “are you getting an entirely new wardrobe for this trip bc packages keep coming and coming!!
One caviat exception to the high rise rule....I'm 5'0 with a short torso and long legs proportionally. When I wear high rise pants they end up so close to my chest. My 5'0 frame goes from chest to belly button immediately. So I would say petites with short torsos might be better with low rise to lengthen the look of the torso!
Hi Erin, I just discovered your channel. I love your style, plus you're petite! I've already sent this video to my sister. I shall be following you. Thank you so much! I love international travel and I appreciate all your style tips there as well.
I didn’t want to tuck in or wear a belt because i had excess around my waist. Now I have lost the extra and toned by abs, I enjoy tucking in tops and belting pants and dresses.
I am only 5’2 and a maxi length dress makes me look longer & taller than an above the knees or just below the knee length dress! I love the maxi length (a lot!).
Always great tips. Lately, I see women wearing a simple ivory leather stiletto heel. I noticed it in pictures from the King's coronation to today's NY Times. Interesting shift in the neutral tone from beige/tan/nude to ivory/white.
Watching this from the U.K.and saw your comment which caught my attention .The outfits and uniforms were spectacular during the King's Coronation, everyone looked amazing.Your name is very appropriate, also!
Hi Erin, so lovely to see you making a video like this ! Spring and Summer are right there and I feel fun, fresh, an explorer, playful and colour lover 🤭😁I loved all the suggestions, they are so spot on! Loved loved that jacket that you can remove the bottom off!!! You Boo Boo Girl, look so much more YOUTHFUL with the cropped jacket!! I only noticed it when you showed the two versions of the same 😂I wholeheartedly tell you how youthful and fresh fun you look in that combination!!! I also loved the all in one colour... the white trousers with the ivory french top (gorgeous by the way!)... I believe that is fun, harmonious and optically elongating, no matter what colour one uses. I am a curvy lady and only 165cm tall, and i rock wedges with head to toe white lace set of gorgeous flowy A-line long bottoms and the top lace has a cheekey V neck and beautiful detail at the end of the flowy sleeves... I like to wear it with a pamela and a straw bag....and that adds joy and light and happiness that is spread around too! So yes Erin, it is fun to play around with our clothes, being creative to be more visually taller and leaner heheheh the tricks are endless and we are being kind with ourselves by using what we have and know, to our advantage 🥰🤗 Thank you so much gorgeous!
Hey Erin, I'm 5,7" but with a long body and short muscular legs and a large head. So i look small wven though I'm tall. I'm definitely going to use these tips.
Great video Erin! The only comment I have is that my rise is so short that even high rise petites are too long for me and I end up with a bunch of extra material under my bottom. Not a pretty look.😅. The mid rise is usually perfect for me and sits at my waist. So for some of us mid rise is better.
Yay! I feel seen. My biggest issue is finding adult shoes that are stylish and comfortable in the dreaded size 5😒 I will save this video for future reference. I want to look both taller and youthful - *not frumpy or like a teenager😂*.
Petite isn't the same as short. Petite is the frame of the body. So narrowed shoulders, shorter arms. A short person can be large too. Petites look better in scaled down clothing or tailored i agree.
This video is for anyone looking for tips to look taller! For simplicities sake, I say petite as height 5'4" and under since that is the industry standard... As women, we know that every brand and even different styles within a brand fit us all so differently. Hope you found some helpful tips from this video. Thanks so much for watching! xo
Petite used to be 5’2” or shorter. Then manufacturers went to 5’4”. AND petite is an over all proportion including narrower shoulders across the back. Shorter from neck to waist from 1” to 1 1/2”. And surprisingly, the rise from waistband in back through crotch to front waistband can be longer. (Than a regular women’s)
Petite sizing is very specific, and now labeled for 5'4" and under as you have mentioned. These tips are great for really anyone looking for ways to elongate their styles though! xo
This is a great video for everyone! I'm 5'9", but I'm all about looking six feet tall! I have a long torso, and you're right about jumpsuits being a challenge. 😖 I'm buying all the 12"+ rise pants I can get my hands on right now while they're on trend, because they're so elongating.
Love this video and the skin tone VB wedge sandals! Unfortunately I can’t wear a heel that high. Do you have any alternatives with slightly lower heel to recommend? Thank you!
