A big one is thinking a normal fit shirt that's just one size bigger becomes "oversized". Oversized pieces are made to fit accordingly. Normal fits are not, it just looks like you bought a size too big.
The sale curse is real with me. I'll look at something that looks like a 7/10 but because its on sale I'll often buy it and then return it because it just doesn't make me go "I love it"
