Fun fact: Shedinja also has 45 defense (not that it matters lol) like Ninjask, and added together they make 90 like Nincada. So you could assume Ninjask lost 45 defense specifically because of losing its former shell, Shedinja

Nincada, after evolving, splits in body and armor; armor turns into shedinja, and body turns into ninjask. That’s why ninjask and shedinja both have 1/2 of Nincada’s defense.
@@Hihi-lo2di its kind of funny, I hear all about Martins solrock being trash all the time but in my game he has only used cosmic power 1 time and rock polish 5 times out of the many times he has been on my team. Talk about lucky.
I think it's because Gallade is more of a support Pokemon. It's got Wide Guard, Quick Guard, Helping Hand, and Taunt. It's like like it was meant to be a great support Pokemon with a strong Close Combat.
Here’s a fun one: A shadow ball from a Gastly, presuming they have the same IV’s, natures, etc, would do the same damage as a shadow ball From a Dragapult
Because 100 special attack is still very high, and it has a good special movepool. Gastly just has an absurdly high special attack for the first Pokémon in a three-stage evolution line
My Dragapult is Jolly so instead I run a physical set with Dragon Darts and Phantom Force with a Power Herb so she can hit something instantly on the first use. Well, a mixed set, cuz I also run Flamethrower on her. I know she's Jolly, but without Flamethrower she gets walled by them Steel types. It still works tho. Her last slot is Suckah Punch, cuz Wynaut.

The earth crab thing looks to only have a small layer of clay, and a lot of loam/soil. Clay is the hard stuff. That's the stuff that gives you trouble while digging. Loam/soil is relatively easy to move through. But have you ever tried to dig through a tree root? Now that's a challenge. Get out your hatchet. Maybe Leafeon is a tree root with leaves on it.
@@toxicflamez1 I do love it, because lowering it to 15 means all the more of that +100 BST gets allocated to Attack and Speed. They knew what they were doing with Mega Beedrill.
12:52 Solrock can use explosion thats why they gave it a higher physical attack than special attack and what happens when some stars reached its limit, it'll explode 👍
It would be funny if they gave abra base 1000 stk, satk, and speed and removed all attacking moves and stat boosting/lowering moves it could learn from tm.
10:01 The thing with Wailord actually kind of makes sense. Wailord is basically a living blimp. It is practically like hollow on the inside or something. idk.
@@cymberciara Wailords pokedex entry says otherwise. Also ... spiders are freaking strong. Those things never skip leg day. They're like ants in that regard.
I like to think that there are 2 types of defense either the pokemon is really physically strong like Onix thus being able to tank attacks or like joltik vs waillord(can't spell not going to bother) the cute little spider is tiny and harder to hit than a gaint whale so thus having more defense.
Actually, the wailord/joltik thing makes sense for two reasons, those being dexterity and size. When calculating your Armor Class in D&D dexterity is taken into account. Which is easier to hit, something small and fast like a spider, or big and slow like a whale?
Politoad got the Drizzle ability, making him core in rain teams. Poliwrath got outclassed by a slew of other fighting type pokemon, so you'd almost always want a Politoad over Poliwrath. Could be a reason why they buffed him.
Poliwrath's typing is much better, honestly. Water/Fighting with Water Absorb gives a hella underrated spread of resists and an immunity to a popular type. If you're doing weatherless teams, always pick Poliwrath over Politoed.
@@gengarzilla1685 If your in normal single player pokemon, sure go use Poliwrath. But in a competitive environment pleasee don't use Poliwrath, the only time I've seen it being used is in a cheesy belly drum set which works 10% of the time.
yup this is facts i had one in diamond a pearl an that thing was an underrated beast!! it chewed up an spit out a lot of my opponents..frfr ppl sleep on purugly cuz team galactic grunts have em but forget that..thing is fast an hits harder than you’d think… sucker punch aerial ace quick attack body slam
The eeveelution thing partly makes sense, Flareon can use quite some physical moves, while some grass types are bulky as well, which is because so they can tank enemies and leech seed them, as well as poisoning, making them sleep or paralyzing
That still doesn’t matter. Machamp is a fighting type Pokémon with four very-developed muscly arms! Flareon should NOT be able to hit as hard as Machamp, it has skinny tiny arms! Leafeon is made of leaves. Leaves are very fragile whilst Crustle is literally a crab with an earth shell, earth is very tough. Rather if Grass is bulky, it shouldn’t be more bulky than a literal rock-type!
I think we interpret speed too literally, in battle speed determines who attacks first but that's really not about speed but reactivity. I can easily see a Pokemon being given an intentionally low speed stat to make it more reactive as opposed to being proactive
That was my thought. The speed stat isn't the Pokemon's top speed if they were to race, but reaction speed. Who is able to move into attack more quickly.
I think Gamefreak decided to fit the Gen 7 Pokemon with the tropical theme and so they made them slower... As for the Gen 8 slow guys, remember that all of those are Trick Room users
And to add to that, most of the gen 8 dex seems to be built around themes, so for them to make slow pokemon with trick room in mind wouldn't surprise me at all.
There’s a difference between travel speed and combat speed, some Pokémon maybe able to travel at incredible speeds but it doesn’t mean charging an attack won’t take them sometime.
@@zememerr2329 But that specific entry was about the strongest of the baby pokemon, which is Munchlax. If you wanna play that game, Scyther is also a first stage pokemon, with his 500 BST
I like to think of the speed stat as “reaction time to trainers order” rather than actual speed. So purrugly, being a cat, has a fast reaction time and can attack before latios and Latias, even if they have a higher top speed. Thank you for listening to my ted talk :)
Except thats not true, seeing how if you flee or not is partially dependent on the head mon's speed stat. Plus, if it WAS reaction time, Latias and Latios could still strike Purugly *first,* because even if they react slower, *they’re jet planes against a big cat.* Cool to think about, *but no.*
Or it could be bursts of speeds or dexterity. A cat being able to jump out of the way of a coming attack makes sense. Also, Electrode is the fastest Gen 1 Pokemon, with a base speed of 140. Is it faster than a fighter jet? No. But it's able to do quick manoeuvres because of its spherical shape.
I consider it the time it takes for an attack to happen after it knows the order. Vikavolt, for example, is based on a railgun, and as such would take a while to charge its attacks, whereas purugly is a cat that is far more capable of quickly pulling off an attack as soon as it knows what to do. Sorry if this is what your comment meant, but I assume you're talking about the time taken between the trainer giving the order and the Pokémon registering it.
To be honest leafeon having a high defense kinda makes sense because if you think about it. It’s hard to punch a leaf and break it because it’s so flimsy and light so if a machamp punches a leafeons tail or something. The leaf will just be pushed around
@DRIN HYKOSMONI yeah but Pokémon thinks logically, they’d make Pokémon strong or weak depending on their origins So there had to be at least a bit of science in there
Fun fact. Shedinja and Ninjask combined to equal Nincada's defense stat. The bug inside the shell combined with the shell is equal to the bug that had the shell still on, defensively. Also interesting enough... their base hp stats combine to exactly double Nincada's.
@@dontmisunderstand6041 but shouldn’t the actual bug have more Atleast by a bit. And then the shell would have a little bit less but they would still equal to nincadas defense.
There is an honorable mention concerning one of the Eeveelutions that should probably be included: Glaceon has a higher special attack stat than Giratina
On defense of Giratina, on his release he was meant to be the Beef tank of the trio. Hence why he has the highest HP stat and more balanced Def and special, where Dialga was more tank against physical and Palkia against Special.
I like to think that the speed stat stands for reaction time. Not how fast you are. Hence why vikavolt is slow (cannot turn quickly, planes take forever to turn around), but purugly is so fast (even fat cats can claw an eye out before you know they are attacking you)
Why would a huge rock snake get out of its way to attack anyone? Ferrets on the other hand are mean spirited and they like attacking stuff and other creatures.
@@Lunictd People have ferrets for pets dude. They are not very aggressive only to protect themselves. Even if they did hurt you it won’t be as bad as a giant ass snake that would probably strangle you in a minute.
Arkoos making Purugly: Make it a cat, Make it purple.. Mew: aww that’s cu- Make it fat. Mew: Excuse me what the- Make it faster than some legendary Pokemon. Mew: dips Edit: guys calm down LOL the awesome yt is probably new to mandjtv
That's kind of the point. Slaking isn't a Legendary Pokemon or anything, so they had to give it a hindering ability to balance out its stats. In fact, it's high stats probably came after the designers decided on the ability.
Well to be fair, ticks are notoriously pretty hard to kill, and wailord is lighter than air, so it makes sense to be able to just be deflated when hit.
(I find it sad that pyroar, a FIRE LION has a lower physical attack than Sunflora, the weakest flower at that, while on the other hand it's funny how Magmortar is just barely faster than chandelure)
#001 And the sad/funny part about it is that one of it's abilities is Moxie and it's a hidden ability. Gamefreak knew that they dropped the ball on that one.
Pyroar is my favorite Pokémon but it’s sad that it’s a special attacker... it doesn’t even get that many great physical moves for an adamant nature set up :/
11:29 i think that makes sense. Remember, you do not know how defensive the husk that ninjask left behind is. And its apparently strong enough to whitstand all non-super effective attacks.
You find yourself on the ground, in the middle of a dark forest. You have no memory of any past events, not that it matters. You realize that there are no stars in the night sky, nor moon. You get up and brush yourself off, heart beating faster than a purugly. All of a sudden you hear heavy footsteps nearing towards you. That fast heart beat disappears in a millisecond, and you freeze. You get back on the ground, hoping it'll hide you from this... Creature. Clearly you aren't thinking straight. A long, snake light creature appears from the shadows. It appears to have horns and blood red eyes. It is... 6 FEET TALL?! You hope it can't hear your pounding heart, although you already know it does. It approaches you. Those horns were just ears, and it was a giant ferret! You sigh in relief, and feel better until you see what's in this creature's hands. It raises it's weapon, and your scream cuts sharper than the axe going through your body.
9:58 this seems really weird but it actually makes sense. Tarantulas are suprisingly durable in real life and it is really easy to pierce an object that is both light and very large.
Felt like putting this for no reason. I just felt like it ( Playing Shield and I just defeated Raihan) Me in the wild area: Maybe I should train a little... ( Sees a Gigalith wandering around ) Me: Oh, a Gigalith! I should catch it! Encounters it. It’s shiny. Me remembering it has Explosion: Oh no... Don’t worry, I caught it. Libra Werewolf yo that was my first shiny I had played diamond platinum and fire red and then black and caught a roggenrolla I’m really glad it was my first because it was such a good shiny
@@lillievonleipzig4728 all hail tm's... especially in gen 2 where the abra line is the most broken line in the game, with the elemental punches being special and only 3000 pokedollar at the 3rd gym city, and thats exactly where you can get abra
About the Trapinch, Poliwrath situation. Normally, you put more force into crunching something with jaw. When your punching something, sure you may be tensing your muscles to hit it hard, but your using multiple muscles at once when you do.
I feel like someone made a typo with Vikavolt's speed and no one has caught it since it's introduction or bothered to fix it. Like, maybe someone's handwriting was so sloppy on the design document for Vikavolt that they put 43 when they meant 93. I work with data analytics and have seen some horrible handwriting. 4s can look like 9s. You will believe it. Thumb's up if you want a Vikavolt with 93 base speed!
Alex Rosen I think what they could do with Vikavolt is buff their base stat total to 515 or something and redistribute the stats. I don’t really think its special needs to be that high, so it could have something like 90 speed, but only 120 attack and a bit less defense
@@zememerr2329 if it had less defense it would die extremely quick. That wouldn't be a problem if it was fast and strong enough to kill the oponent before the oponent could kill it so making it's sp. Attack lower doesn't make sense.
I want Vikavolt at 120 Speed minimum, as it should've been if Gen 7 didn't try so hard at making everything slow because "Hawai = Lazy". Drop all the defensive stats to become a glass cannon.
Michael: A pudgy cat faster than a jet plane is impossible Nyan Cat: *hold my rainbows* Also Wailord isn’t the king of size anymore, Eternatus stole that spot. R.I.P Wailord’s rein.
“It seems crushing boulders is more impressive than turning them to dust.” Well, yeah, you need high defense to wield the infinity gauntlet, not attack
The reason why crushing a boulder is more impressive than turning it to dust is the way of delivery, crushing actively has you compressing an object while punching is impacting one, so while it's very easy to slam a hammer into a brick and breaking it, try grabbing 2 hammers and just with your raw strength crushing it
@@jamesdinius7769 Does the small tiny little cute Vaporeon look bulky to you ? There are Bulky Water Types yes but Vaporeon is in a whole other league. -Very High HP with Very High Special Attack. - Special def is also pretty high. - Learn Acid Armour for even higher def stats. - Learns Aqua Ring for Heal each round without items. - Learns Ice attacks which make Glaceon useless overall. - Has Water Absorb. And while Milotic is a good argument you need to keep in mind that Milotic is a huge Sea Snake while Vaporeon is a little Aquatic Fox.
It was decided pretty early on that all Eeveelutions were going to get a 130 base stat somewhere. In gen 1 choices were kinda limited. Jolteon drew Speed, Flareon drew attack, for some reason, and Vaporeon wanted to be a wall so that left either defense(special attack and defense were the same stat in Gen 1, so that was out) or HP, drew HP.
It wouldn't hurt to buff Castform; it wouldn't hurt to buff many Pokemon that have low-ish stats and no evolution and before you guys say it would it make them OP in earlier parts of the game (such as Stantler being available just after Goldenrod's gym) the initial high power from not having an evolution could be balanced out by having them learn the good moves a bit late so they don't steamroll things
Was expecting scizor on this list Having the same base stat total as it'd pre evolution form scyther, which is very strange And being surprisingly slow for a fast looking pokemon
No wonder why Bugsy’s scyther is a great battle. He has a pretty good strategy and scyther has 110 attack and 100 speed. He has bad sp. attack, and usable defenses. Hot damn.
The scyther one doesn't surprise me that much because he is a trade evolution and it will stay in the same level if you trade him and evolve him but yeah the trapinch one it's crazy
@@demi-femme4821 that's...not the point. The point is that even though a Pokemon stays the same level, evolving can still be a huge boost on stats. What you said has nothing to do with this.
"Apparently Regice missed this memo" I love this because it implies: A: Pokemon chose their own stats. B: They are expected to base them off real-world logic.
Okay, while I do understand most of them, here are my issues with these lists. 1) Dusknoir, while it is a super big bulky pokemon, it is still a ghost. It does have strong defense stats due to its body, the spirit itself is still pretty vulnerable. Meanwhile, yungoos is a rodent that will eat almost anything. So, yeah, it should have pretty okay health. 2) Wailord's weight is ridiculous because of how light it is, it would have pretty weak defense. Its pokedex entries talk about it going down up to 10,000 feet with one break, meaning it would have to take in a lot of air, making it pretty vulnerable. Joltik has the ability to latch onto other, way stronger pokemon and survive the wear and tear. Therefore, it should have pretty good defense. 3) Nincada should have double the defense. Cicadas do have strong bodies, and when they lose their shell they are pretty vulnerable for a while, representing Ninjask who would move quickly, but would be much more vulnerable. Along with this, shedinja has the same defense as Ninjask, when you add those two together, it becomes Nincada's defense. This shows the shell that protects Nincada has been cast off when they evolve into Ninjask and half of its defense is left as shedinja, its shell.
I actually never thought of the defenses of the Nincada line in that light, but that makes so much sense. Pity that Shedinja's defensive stats do it no good on account of being a One-Hit Point Wonder.
No it's possible it just takes some setup in a double or triple battle. I've personally done it before to see if it works, and as far as ultra moon, it does.
Fun fact: I am currently in the middle of the Alpha Sapphire Elite Four, and am planning to use my Furret to try and outspeed Glacia's freaking Froslasses. I'm gonna use her since she has decent Attack and Shadow Claw, and has higher speed then my only other super effective pokemon.
Why ninjask has half the defense: Nincada when evolved turns into shedninja and ninjask. So shedninja is the husk of the fully grown nincada (smol cicada to big boi) meaning nincada is ninjask when shedinja is still part of it. Supporting things: ninjask and shedinja have the same defense 45 if 45 got multiplied by 2 is 90. Nincada has 90 defense BOOM
You have to remember that Nincada’s evolution involves it shedding its shell (Shedinja is the hollowed shell of Nincada), that means that it loses its primary defense. It actually makes sense that Nincada has 2x Defense than Ninjask because Ninjask is a Nincada without a shell.
