Hey Julia, I am a 55 year old woman from Germany. I have a 29 year old son, so almost your age. When I was 45 I went on a one year cycling trip through parts of the USA and South America. It was one of the best things I have done in my life (besides being a mother). In 2016 my husband and I resumed our trip in South America and went from Cusco, Peru to Valparaiso Chile with a detour to Patagonia, because travel plan are made to divert from. Traveling that way made me a better person and my husband and I are planning another yearlong trip in 2023, again by bicycle. I will be 58 by then and hoping I will still be capable enough. My point is: keep up your plans!
Really enjoyed your AT video is how I found your channel. I rode in a KC135 to Iraq in 2004 for the Army. The crew chief was awesome enough to wake me up for an overhead view of the pyramids from the refueling bubble.
I was already impressed by your hike, but KC-135 Crew Chief and Neurosurgical nurse?! That’s pretty incredible! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us!
I just finished your videos from the AT. My Dad and I are going for it in 2022. I was USAF Air Traffic Control from 2013-19. Used to work Rivet Joints out of Tinker a lot.
Love your positive attitude and mentality about life, you're definitely an inspiration! Hope you maintain the happiness you deserve! And thank you for being a front liner during these difficult times ☺️
You nailed some points that I highly admire: nurse (have known and respected many), Air Force (retired here), crew chief (right up there with nurses, I've bought many beers for chiefs), tankers (as a retired pilot I've been drug around the world by tankers, thank you if you were there!).
I Love all of this... the AT, your also a Veteran, You love the Mountains and Sunsets, your a Nurse... You are so Inspiring! Your video on the AT was Amazing. You are so positive and upbeat!! I love it. You are naturally beautiful and love to camp... Why cant I find a woman like you? Never change
Julia, Thank you so very much for this video and your thru hike video. I actually had tears in my eyes while watching. Forty plus years I hiked a good part of the AT with my best friend. We had the best time of our lives. So many great memories that lasted through the decades. Age somehow has a tenancy to sneak up on us. Like you, I say to all of your followers to "dance like no one is watching". Life is so short, so precious. Live life to it's fullest. It truly is a gift.
You have such a great spirit and inspiration, absolutely contagious. Thank you for your service to our country. I am here in Az. loved your S.W adventure, Sedona's awesome. ✌❤ Happy trails, but for now the covid19 virus first. Prayer"s for good health for all...
You're about 2 years younger than me and WOW you've got a great head on your shoulders. You've already done so much in your life. Nice to meet you . ❤❤❤
Great to get to know you. I teach and live 40 minutes east of Des Moines and also was in USAF. I teach Outdoor Leadership & Adventure at a HS and College.
You are so interesting and inspiring. Thank you for sharing your story with us. I watched your AT 'movie' yesterday and felt so inspired and comfortable as well :) I bet people usually feel really comfortable with you! Love from the Netherlands
Awesome way to tell a little about your self . You sound like a great person look forward to more of your videos . From Steve Stott in Sutherlin Oregon U.S.A.
I started watching your videos because you looked familiar. Then I watched this video and somehow I recall a conversation involving some of the “15 things”. At March? I ask because I figure you would know what I am asking. Anyway, keep with the through hiking .... from a mountain biker.
Another great video! It's always good to know a bit more about the people who make these videos. If you come to the UK make sure you visit Lake District and Snowdonia National Park. Once all this crisis is gone I'll be doing the Snowdonia Slate trail and after will head to the Highlands. There are awesome hikes to do in the UK

So pleasantly surprised Julia to see you include a photograph of you standing outside Durty Nellys pub restaurant and Bunratty castle in Ireland. I live two miles away from there and pass by there almost everyday (or at least I did before Covid 19 lock down, ha! ha!) small world
Another great video Julia. Being Irish I’m glad Ireland is your fav travel destination. With your surname I’d say you have Irish ancestors for sure. Love to have you back here someday. Keep up the great videos.
Hey Rocket, enjoyed your hike on the A.T. my favorite place is the Priest Mt. shelter. Watched you there with much "wishing I was there also" Take care. Dave.
I'm very proud to hear you love Ireland . We have sooo many amazing hiking trails here. You can do the Ireland Way or hike the coastlines around the country. I suggest looking up Derek Cullen here on RU-vid or Facebook. I think he has hiked most of Ireland at this stage and gives a very raw account of his travels. Best of luck 🇮🇪
Go for Kungsleden in northern sweden not super long Just around 440km and with à short detour you can summit the highest peak in sweden that reaches with its impressive hight of 2100m above sealevel😀, it is a nice hike within and around the swedish mountains. Really like your videos! Your energy is fantastic. Greetings from sweden
How about that! I was an assistant crew chief on a 135 from 1960 to64. Based at Griffiss AFB, NY with the 416th Bomb Wing, 8th AF. Many great memories. Got into the Adirondacks occasionally, but never was into hiking back then. They’ve got some great trails. Look forward to your hikes on the PCT & CDT. You seem like a definite Triple Crowner! Take care, stay safe.
With what you have portrayed over the last year plus, you have matured in many veins and ways for the good. The UPMC Pittsburgh Neuro ICU unit was a game changer for us as well when we brought my wife's relatively young mother in only to be told we can't find the source of the brain bleeding and if we could, it is in an area where we can't operate. Life is indeed fragile and short. Happiness is propagated from within and without and is typed to some degree by the hiker and trail angel realationship. In the end, we can hope it is said of all of us in condolence that we were a vibrant flower in some way. Keep on steppin young lady in and with happiness.
Nice to get to know you! There are so many great vegan ice creams now you would be amazed! Ben & Jerry’s has some great ones, Haagen-Dazs and So Delicious have some delicious choices plus many other brands. 😊
I would love to attempt a thru hike! I have so many questions and things I would ask you. I have been pouring over you tube and the internet. I am getting old and would like to do it before I can’t physically. Your story is a great inspiration to me!
I didn't know you were an Air Force Vet ... so am I! Was Munitions Maintenance from '75 to '79 ... Ramstein & Homestead. I was typing this while watching this episode ... you just mentioned first concerts ... mine was Led Zeppelin on May 3, 1973. P.S. - Didn't comment during your Thru Hike, but really enjoyed following your adventure. A belated Congratulations on your phenomenal accomplishment! I am just a section hiker that has the bucket list of checking off the entire trail before the inevitable dirt nap (150 miles in PA ... check, 40 miles in GA ... check. Just 2,000 miles left to go).
You mentioned a couple of small trails in the UK. I would highly recommend Wainwrights C2C from St. Bees to Robin Hood Bay. Only around 200 miles long, it has a spectacular variety of terrain.
Two of my favourite places, Scotland and Ireland, Scotland for its rugged unspoilt beauty and Ireland for its greenery and friendliness. I'm going your way, well to Virginia but my friend was from West Virginia so she will be taking me to her home town to meet her family, set within those mountains . Although I'm from England, I may never make it home. We will see! Enjoyed your documentary whilst walking that trail.. Thanks
New sub here. From Westmoreland County. Damn...I wish I could introduce you to my nephew who grew up in Somerset he now lives in Pittsburgh. Ty for this and all your videos Rocket 🙂
Thanks, Julia. Nice to learn more about someone who has been an inspiration to many other hikers, especially, I'm guessing, aspiring female hikers. Women have come a long way since the beginning of the woman's rights movement, and continue to find freedom and fulfillment in many ways that went unexplored for many, many generations. Keep enjoying your freedom, and help others, male, as well as female, find their own way to a fulfilling life. I know that it's an overused phrase, but it fit you: You ROCK, girl! Keep on rockin'! 👍
The plan was to attempt thru hike the AT after St Patrick's Day 2020. Then hike Irland east to west then south to north. My father was from Irland, I have alot of family over their. Thanks for your service. You are one super cool young lady. AF, RN , AT thru hiker. LNT ☘️🍀
Rocket . I guess i'm another perv. I love the way you hav lived your life. Love your personality continue to do what makes you happy . You are very right ,life is so short.
I dig how you are very cute but can also be a snot rocket blower. Enjoyed your hike and look forward to seeing others you go on. I've followed Dixie (Homemade Wanderlust) through her triple crown and just watched her do the Camino as well. I'm about 50 and would love to do the AT as it starts about 30 miles north of me. Good luck in the future!
Hey Rocket, love you. Thanks for your service. Love your spirit. BTW KC135 = 707 not 737. Whatever- Both big birds. Loved following your hikes. Been into JST and PIT many times. Peace.
Ireland is amazing and while there I was able to hike to the highest point of the island. I would love to go back as well and I concur that it is my favorite place to visit so far. Italy was nice but I definitely have Scotland on my list soon. Where in Texas did you live?
I was 25 and stationed at Fort Huachuca in southern Arizona when I first discovered backpacking. I'm still doing it 40 years later. You won't regret finding and falling in love with hiking and all things outdoors. Your current project of thru hiking the AzTrail is enjoyable to watch and hearing a different take on it is rewarding. Keep it up.
You forgot to mention how damn gorgeous you are, Loved the AT video, nothing like that in the UK, hope to see more content from you in the near future.
Have you ever read about Bill Irwin he hiked the whole trail blind with his seeing-eye german shepherd I read this years ago and was so impressed but I have never hiked the trail one foot but from watching your video I am much more impressed with his accomplishment now and yours of course :)
I caught a hop once from Frankfurt to Hanscom aboard a 135. They were taking a squadron of A-10’s across the pond. Longest hop EVER! But it was cool to lay down in the rear and watch the Warthogs get refueled a few times.
I gave an ‘Ireland hit list’ to loads of AT’ers last year. Let me know if you want it too. In terms of hiking the best is in Kerry. For limited time entertainment you’ve got to focus on Dublin. For great traditional towns with history and music it again must be Kerry but Dingle in particular. For wildness visit Mayo but Achill Island in particular. I could go on and on - as you may have noticed.
As an Air Force vet myself, I loved being able to travel and see the world. Being stationed in the UK helped, too. I know your mom is a nurse, but what about your journey from Air Force crew chief to nurse. And your pics from your time in the AF don't show your arm tattoo, was that something later?
I love the pizza and ice cream also. At48 I had a major stroke. I hope to do the at once my hair improves. Follow Ed by the same you list Ed. Learn to sail and later I might have a spot open on the boat crew.uou rock. Don't wait life happens.
Wow...KC-135 Crew Chief...impressive. FB-111A Crew Chief here...21 years retired, USAF. Thank you for your service. My first assignment was Pease AFB in New Hampshire...with KCs and FB-111s. Where were you stationed? And 👍 to Margarita pizza.
Definitely can’t wait to hike/backpack Europe when all this madness is over too. I’m English; German; Scottish and Irish with some west African in the mix.
