15 Things to Consider when Choosing a Bug Out Location 

We bought a small farm with 9 acres. I am dependent on the medical system. I’m a nurse so is my wife. Through no fault of my own, (birth defect) I’ve had kidney damage since birth. Now my kidneys have failed. I’m on dialysis starting last may. I have to go every other day. I’m fully aware that if the grid goes down, roughly speaking, I’m gone in two weeks. Have a motorcycle, or an e-bike, or even just a bicycle to get you to your Bug Out location. You can easily get around backed up highways.

Since we are small town w a volunteer firefighter service, both my high school boys joined the team when they turned 16 My 17 yo helped a young plumber after a gas water heater explosion, 3rd degree burns all over his back He is taking emt classes every Thursday night. While taking a college calc class and normal HS classes We will have 3 medical trained people in my family of 6

30-45 minutes from a good hospital. 10-20 highway miles from a good grocery store. At least two turns from highway to your street or county road. There is no perfect location. Only the one for you. Great video!

WE LIVE IN FLORIDA, north of the Orlando metro area. We have seen what happens when folks to the South of us go into "panic mode" when hurricanes approach, flooding the main highways with cars - every one with 1/2 tank of gas ! For that reason, we intend on "hunkering down" at our semi-rural house. The only exception would be, if SHTF developed into all-out nuclear war. THEN, we would head for the coast, commandeer a sailboat, and head as far SOUTH as we could get !

The problem with the Federal level intervention, they'll do things for the 'greater good' which means the people who stand around with their hand out, are their favorite people. They're easy to control. Those who are independent, they'll have no problem seizing that they consider as your having 'too much' of food or any other supplies to give out to those who haven't lifted a finger for themselves. Even back in WWII, you couldn't draw rations of sugar, until you'd used up what you already had. If they knew you had it, you couldn't draw what you were 'entitled to get'. And that was back when more people had options. Even then, they had to push people to put in 'victory gardens' in order to feed urban areas.

As a property adjuster I’ve never seen guns make it through fire rated safes- if the house is burnt to the ground. So make sure you have good contents coverage most policies have a baseline of around 500 per gun up to X dollar amount. This can be changed so look into it

Hi fellas. Great video. I'm on a acreage, 80 miles from any major metropolis. I was expecting you to mention "avoiding prisons". Sometimes prisons can look like, just another building, or they are secluded, from public view. Just a thought. Always a pleasure. If it was mentioned, I missed it.

Depending on where we live we may have to worry more about 2 legged predators than the 4 legged.

There are very few areas in the US where you can find a site that is 100 miles from a major metro area, 100 miles from an Interstate or other major highway or 100 miles from a railroad..and that is habitable/sustainable.

Great conversation and ideas. I'd caution about blindly putting faith in a community because it is perceived as conservative. That doesn't automatically translate to good people. I've lived in both conservative-leaning and more liberal leaning and have seen good and bad in both. Crime in larger, liberal areas make the news, but there have been plenty of notable atrocities in "conservative" areas, all in the name of community. Labels don't serve us well in extreme situations. People are people. Trust very few.

Drove back to Fla from Columbia SC after a day trip to view the total eclipse. The roads were so packed we could've walked faster intermittently over a 60 mile stretch.

I live in Chicago and you are spot-on as far as the municipal dominance over state policy - I imagine NY and CA are similar . Charleston IL (yes, we have a Charleston too 😂) is a spot I have been looking at for an SHTF scenario for some time - and coincidentally it actually fits most of the criteria you're describing. Hey Don I still live in Rhode Island and still fighting the fight for our 2A. Mostly because I can't move at this point in time. But my plan is to move South eventually. I have Family N.C., S.C, and FL. . But until then I will fight the good fight.

I use the Alexapure water filter. I placed two 1 OZ silver dollars in the lower water reservoir because of silver's antimicrobial properties. I also placed one silver dollar in the Keurig water reservoir.

While it helps if your sheriff is conservative, he can arrest all the bad guys he wants but if the prosecutor doesn’t prosecute, does no good. I would add avoid being downwind from Nuclear power plants. Also make sure your bugout location is not using a piped in sewage system.

Lake Wateree SC is extremely rural. The liberty hill side of the lake is absolute middle of nowhere. There is NO housing on the north shore of the lake. Its not populated. The lake is like a huge barrier between i77 a few miles away and your compound

Are you seriously planning on bugging out to Grey Owl's cabin in Prince Albert National Park??? - LOL. After all, that's the pic in your thumbnail. Expect a 4 day drive from SC and a border crossing. Don't forget to register your firearms and all handguns are forbidden. Expect to pay 2x your normal rate for gas and supplies to get here. The nearest hospital is an hour away from the parking lot but the cabin is a 20km walk from the parking lot, so if you break a leg, you are SOL. The winter's up here can be pretty severe too, you might want to rethink your destination unless you want to go ice-fishing. Don't forget to lug a couple of tons of food per person up with you 'cause you aren't going far in the winter and you are going to be majorly isolated. Forget cell-phone coverage and radio reception is next to impossible. The uninsulated cabin also has a deliberate hole in the floor that was built so that Grey Owl's pet beavers could come and go as they pleased. The stove hasn't worked in years. LOL Sarcasm off.

I learned this weekend that Doctors without Borders help the people trying to get into the US illegally by providing a map with our rail systems, so that they can get anywhere in the country by hopping on a train. If that's true, I might have this as a "plan B" to get to my bug out location if my car becomes unusable.
