Hey Shu, I would suggest telling people to research a good travel debit card, like Monzo or Caxton, instead of people exchanging loads of cash before they come to HK. That way they can just withdraw for free as much or as little as they want at any ATM plus it's often cheaper as they get the wholesale banking exchange rate rather than any additional travel agent mark up. A much safer and cost effective way of travelling with money abroad :) I lived in HK for a year, I miss it so much!!

Hey Emily! Just pinned your comment as it's so helpful - thank you so much!!! I've actually just applied for a Monzo but still haven't used it yet - great to know though and gives me the push to actually activate it, woops. You'll have to come back and visit again soon!! x

Remember these few things when you're in HK airport: 1. Get an octopus and top-up like $500-1000 (remember to refund when you leave). 2. Buy a sim card for internet access. 3. Don't exchange money here (exchange a little if you don't have any). Exchange outlets here are ripoffs. You'll get much higher rates in downtown. 4. Don't take the pricey, boring airport express train to downtown. The bus is much cheaper, equally comfortable, offers awesome views along your journey and probably takes you to the doorway of your hotel.

hi, just wondering if most Hong Kong stores except MasterCard/Visa?
@ronaldchan2000
@ronaldchan2000 5 лет назад
@@blazecorp Visa and Master cards are good for shopping. But many small shops/restaurant don't accept them. So you'll at least need some petty cash when you're travelling in HK. Speaking of cash, note that only HKD is accepted in HK, but in Macau you can pay by either HK or Macau money.

Well done. Good list. I would include must see/do iconic Hong Kong things like taking the Star Ferry and the dingdings (trams). Over the recent years, government has been reclaiming land and the harbor has been “losing the water.” Star Ferry trips have gotten much shorter over the years but if you want some really good photos of HK side or Kowloon side, Star Ferry is the place to take the pictures. The Dingdings are one of the cheapest ways to see HongKong.

1. Cantonese is the local language and most speak decent English but Mandarin can also be spoken without any ill effects. 2. HSBC and Citibank travel cards are very convenient as there are many of their ATMs. 3. Temporary Octopus cards require a $50 HKD deposit. After you are done, you can go to the Octopus store and go can claim whatever is left in that card minus a $9 Card cost.

Hey Tony! If your phone is unlocked then it's best to get a local sim and ask for ones that could enable you to use it in mainland or else, get one when you're there! Various ways you can get to Shenzhen - via car/train/a bus from Tuen Mun! Visa wise - speaking from UK, you have to get one from the Chinese Embassy in London. Can get a tourist one - just need to confirm flights and accommodation :)

Would not knowing chinese be a problem while there especially in restaurants?
@dejashu
@dejashu 6 лет назад
I’d say that most places in central would speak English though places like dai pai dongs (outdoor restaurants/street food places) won’t but there’s always either a menu with a ton of pictures that’s most likely accompanied with English translations!

I didn't know Uber exist in Hongkong? When you are in a rush take a taxi,(red)otherwise take a minibus(green or red) and yell for the driver to stop (yow Lok!!!) Definitely need aircon for the summer months. Price and comfort makes the difference or you'll need to bring an extra change of clothes. McDonald's is on every third block and cheapest n da world.

A very nice video. One thing I wish to point out is that Mandarin is a national language, while Cantonese is a dialect. There are more than 200 dialects in China, and Cantonese is just one of them.
