He not alone.. what a arrogant self centered “ we are high minded not small minded “ jackass.. channel.. I cannot stand that attitude.. don’t get me wrong it’s can be necessary to have a big ego and believe in one self just remember there is ups and downs for almost everyone so don’t be a asshole..
Omfg. They got that wrong? Thanks for your comment. Saved me fifteen minutes. That and the way the narrator pronounces diptych tell me I don't need to watch this.
I am so glad you mention that Andy was a mass going catholic & worked in a soup kitchen feeding the poor. Opens up an interesting perspective on his work & his relation to the materialism of the modern world.
I have some things you didn't know 1:His name isn't Andy Warhol,it's Actually Andy Warhola 2:He help the Velvet Underground become a famous rock band 3:He helped David Bowles Alter Ego Ziggy Stardust 4:He was albino 5:He was gay
DKMPalace and he very likely had Asbergers syndrome. He wasn't albino, however, his skin tone was a result of childhood illness, the hair color was artificial.
DKMPalace He was not albino, his skin conditions were sequele from childhood illness, namely Sydenhams Chorea and possibly Scarlet Fever. Albinism is from birth and comes with it's own set of difficulties, especially vision. Love him or hate him, we're talking about him. :)
Andy was proud that he was successful at the business of art, rather than being an artist...He brought contemporary art to the mainstream and he knew how to promote himself...
Mind what you insist! I’m an avid Warhol fan and I’m from Pennsylvania and lived in Pittsburgh for years and I’ve been to the Byzantine Church he devoutly attended and his Museum numerous times and everything? I know quite well about him
Andy helped make them what they were. He didn't just allow their subversive content, he encouraged it. Any other manager or producer would have made them a rolling stones clone.
I actually had a dream where Andy hugged me and called me beautiful. He also kissed my nose, kinda ironic how he hates his nose in reality and in a dream he apparently loved mine.
Andy Warhol (born Andrew Warhola; August 6, 1928 - February 22, 1987) was an American artist, director and producer who was a leading figure in the visual art movement known as pop art. His works explore the relationship between artistic expression, celebrity culture, and advertising that flourished by the 1960s, and span a variety of media, including painting, silkscreening, photography, film, and sculpture. Some of his best known works include the silkscreen paintings Campbell's Soup Cans (1962) and Marilyn Diptych (1962), the experimental film Chelsea Girls (1966), and the multimedia events known as the Exploding Plastic Inevitable (1966-67). Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Warhol initially pursued a successful career as a commercial illustrator. After exhibiting his work in several galleries in the late 1950s, he began to receive recognition as an influential and controversial artist. His New York studio, The Factory, became a well-known gathering place that brought together distinguished intellectuals, drag queens, playwrights, Bohemian street people, Hollywood celebrities, and wealthy patrons. He promoted a collection of personalities known as Warhol superstars, and is credited with coining the widely used expression "15 minutes of fame." In the late 1960s, he managed and produced the experimental rock band The Velvet Underground and founded Interview magazine. He authored numerous books, including The Philosophy of Andy Warhol and Popism: The Warhol Sixties. He is also notable as a gay man who lived openly as such before the gay liberation movement. After a gallbladder surgery in 1987, Warhol died in February of that year at the age of 58. Warhol has been the subject of numerous retrospective exhibitions, books, and feature and documentary films. The Andy Warhol Museum in his native city of Pittsburgh, which holds an extensive permanent collection of art and archives, is the largest museum in the United States dedicated to a single artist. Many of his creations are very collectible and highly valuable. The highest price ever paid for a Warhol painting is US$105 million for a 1963 canvas titled Silver Car Crash (Double Disaster); his works include some of the most expensive paintings ever sold. A 2009 article in The Economist described Warhol as the "bellwether of the art market".
My comment would be number 17 and that would be that this wonderful most talented genius in the art world had ever lived and dwelt Among Us and may you rest in peace forever Andy and may your spirit live on in the hearts of many.
1965, first public viewing of video art. It took the rest of the art world a long time to catch up! Even more shocking is the the Tate Gallery in London has only in the last ten years or so started to recognise photography as art and started adding it to their collections! Andy was so far ahead of the rest of us!
WZTwiggs I know, right? I mean, on one hand we all find out about things how we find about them. We're not born knowing anyone. But if you're, like, over fifteen it seems pretty silly you'd hear about the most famous, important artist of modern times from some goofy tv show. How does he fit into American Horror Story? Let me guess: they trash him, make him look like an ass? I had heard about AHS and we watched the first two episodes of season one and thought they sucked. (Same thing with Shameless. Everybody raved about it. Me and my gf tried it, really wanted to like it. After, like, the third or fourth episode, we looked at each and one of us said, "Uh, this sucks, right?") Somebody tell me, though: what does AHS have to do with Warhol? Is there a character based on him or something? Is it a central part of the season?
Advanced Raymondology I mean Warhol was an asshole, you don’t need a tv dramatization for that. Also don’t know if you found out about this but American horror story tells a lot of Stories about American Horrors, with Valerie shooting him, weird huh?
Half these comments are people praising the channel, the other half are viciously attacking Pop Art. Honestly if you took a second or two to understand what the movement was about, most of your issues would fall away.
My favorite Warhol is his works of Diane Von Furstenburg. She has always been one of my favorite people and seeing her in a work by one of my other favorites makes is even better.
For anyone who doesn’t understand Andy Warhol’s art, check the RU-vid channel The art assignment. They did a video on him and explains it short and simple.
I have never heard of him before, good t o know. Also that Maryln Monroe's picture I am familiar with it. I didn;t know he was the master mind behind it.
Jasper Johns and Robert Raushenberg were more inspiring and direct influences but only because I didn't know a lot about Andy's output besides the Campbell Soup Can images! Once I learned more about him, I was hooked! (Learning about his volunteering to work in food service for the poor makes me respect him even more!)❤
Only made it to the second "Thing I didn't know"... Warhol was going bald prematurely, he owned a lot of wigs including silver and white ones. He did not dye his hair. ………. Also there is no good solid source that claims he was kicked out of his HS art club. There are a lot of inbreed internet sources that claim that. …. BUT I can not find a primary source. Lets not spread mythology to sell your product, what ever that is.
I always thought it was an ordinary thing to eat alone in a restaurant until I saw this video 2 weeks ago, now when I do it and see people with their friends on the other tables I feel uncomfortable Dammit
Its because it is engrained into our culture that alone = lonely. And lonely= bad/weird. But, I believe lonely can be healthy at times. It gives your time to self reflect, and rest from those around you. Don't feel so. It shows a sign of intellect and self security. Something people just don't have anymore :l
Nice video clips & information. {though, the background music is distracting}... Viewed your "15 things you didn't know about Jean-Michel Basquiat", enjoyed that one too. Thanks much.
Nice to see this presentation! May I point out that the person with Andy is not Tina Turner, but I believe it to be Mary Wells. There are indeed some pics of Andy with Tina Turner, however.
The most selling pop art artists does this. Koons, Hirst etc. They have assistants making their pieces. In order to produce enough art for the market and galleries they need assistants. Very common practice. @@nickolecustodio3727
The Guy who bought that that Campbell Soup was a Friend of Andy Warhol. He bought it for $1000 and paid the guy $100 a month for 10 months. Just watched a Documentary Andy told him he could never separate the piece and the Guy sold it to a museum for 15 million. It is worth well over 100 million today. Crazy.
Funny: Warhol's piss paintings didn't make this list. And you don't need to be or to have "Christian" values, in order to volunteer in a homeless shelter.
The piss paintings were his pastiche of abstract expressionism. And in Andy’s case, the volunteering at homeless shelter absolutely was a mark of his faith.
You mist be young. He was pretty influential to many artist behind him and quite ahead of his time...but someone who is younger wouldnt really understand
It’s in his book the philosophy of Andy Warhol: from a to b but he also did sport his real hair he only wore wigs when his roots were growing in and if his hair was to damaged for his aesthetic
Mainstream audiences - now does that mean the 80% of Americans who believe in being born again, the 7% that believe choco milk comes from brown cows or the percentage that believe a triangle has 2 sides?
Terry Bee seriously. I guess school isn't important for billionaires. You don't need to be taught how to screw over other people. It just comes naturally to some.
Oh stop nitpicking there's more to life than nitpicking at everybody's pronunciation & the way ppl do things. Get over it it's a sign of weakness letting people bother you over trivial things
I think he wore a lot of costumes and a lot of fake ID. Leave Shakespeare out this, he didn't claim he was 50 different people, like some expert idiots say he did.
