Due to Covid, we have taken a big trip since 2019. This video has really helped refresh our memory about last minute things to do. BTW, I love how you have your hair styled in this video.
Very important: Get your house/dwelling in order before you leave. At least this is what we do. Clean sheets on our bed, bed made, no laundry, take out all trash, be sure your pets/animals are taken care of, no dirty dishes, take recycles out, leave your dwelling neat and tidy, kitchen counters organized.
One thing we do is pre pay or pay extra on your bills ( utilities credit cards etc.). That way you don't risk aate payment or have to deal with bills when you get back.
Pharmacist here! It’s always a good idea to take some extra meds with you. Even if it’s too early to refill usually the pharmacy team can request a vacation override for an early fill. You just have to let them know you’re traveling.
I’m so glad my husband isn’t going. Right now he’s having a hard time getting his heart medication. Even I did but I only have a few and won’t die without them. There’s a national shortage supposedly? We’re still getting them but having to call around all different pharmacies. Hope this is temporary. It must be stressful for you pharmacists too!
Thank you for this. I’ve had a liver transplant so I have to have my meds. I was packing just what I needed, but I see the importance of over packing just a bit now
Great List! I would add bringing a good-sized carry-on bag in case your luggage is misplaced or lost! Our cruise ship lost our luggage and actually put it on the wrong ship!! It was TERRIBLE!! We had no clothes, no toiletries, etc. most of our trip. I will always pack an extra bag with at least 2 days of clothes, undergarments, swimsuits, a nice outfit, extra shoes, etc. Don't let this ruin your trip as it did ours!!
Great list. I would add two (1): Make sure you have all of your documents in the cloud. If you miss your ship at port or otherwise get separated from your belongings you can log on to your cloud account from anywhere to get a picture of your Passport, credit cards (front and back for the CVV and emergency numbers), drivers license, birth certificate, cruise receipt, flight info, vaccine passport, and any other documents you might need to get out of a problem.
@@cruisecrazy7066 You can scan the documents into OneDrive or another cloud using a scanner or the scanner function in the app. For added security you can use the vault feature, but beware that the 2-factor authentication requirement could lock you out if you do not have access to your devices. I keep a copy in an encrypted zip file on a water resistant USB stick that I keep with me as well as on all of the cloud services (in case one is blocked where I am).
Before my international cruise in November, I went on my credit card's website and put a travel alert on my card. So much easier than trying to call on the phone!
Very very important, make sure you lose at least 10 lbs before you get onboard so that when you get home and get on the scale your not devastated by the weight you gained while onboard
Just got back from our cruise and your tips really helped! One thing I would add is having bike shorts for skirts if you’re going outside, cuz I saw so many ppl having problems with their skirts flying up! 😂😂😂 there was a dance party on the pool deck on the celebrity millennium and women were fighting with their dresses to stay down, but I had bike shorts on underneath my dress so I could dance the night away with no worries!!! Thanks for your videos!!!
Taking my first ever cruise next year, and treating my dad - sort of a father-daughter adventure. It's a 10-day Alaska cruise and we'll be in a mini-suite, so this is no small expense. I want to get the most of this experience, but I don't know the first thing about cruising. Finding your channel has been such a godsend. Thanks for all the great info!
I think it’s awesome you are doing that for your dad and as a dad I know just spending quality time with my daughter and no electronics would mean the absolute world to me Also check out the channel Royal Caribbean blogs I have learned a lot about cruising from watching this guys videos
Hey Lana, me and my dad are doing the same thing this summer and I’m in the same boat! Lol! He’s a pro but I’m not! So I feel the same! Good luck! I’m already panicking 😂😂😂
Awwww, that was so sweet...my daughter is also paying for our alaska 11 day cruise , as a parent I feel so uncomfortable letting her spend this much money on me, but on the other hand I also know how much it means to her to have this special time with each other. I have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and the future is "iffy" at best so she just did it!!! I however am doing all the research which she also appreciates!!! Such wonderful people you both are and any parent would be so humbled and honored to have such beautiful human beings as you as children...I hope the cruise was everything you hoped for and more!!!❤❤❤❤❤
Hey saw this I always do the credit card thing. Just to take this one step further.. I also call them and say That I am home and no more charges will be coming thru. this is to prevent fraud.
When we notified the card company I gave them a copy of the ship's destination itinerary and dates. That way they knew where we were supposed to be and when. If someone from the last port tried to use it while we were at the next scheduled port, they would know to question that purchase. They also knew when we were supposed to be back and to not approve anything from those locations after our return date. I also followed up with them upon my return so they knew I was indeed back.
Cruise ships have limited power outlets. Bring a power strip with USB ports. Make sure it DOES NOT have a surge protector. ALL cruise ships have banned surge protectors and if your power cord has one, it will be confiscated.
My sister and I are taking our first cruise ever. She will be 66 and I'll be 53. We have lost 4 of our brother and we want some fabulous memories. We cruise in March of 2023. I have watched most of your videos. They have been such great help. Thank you for all your insight.
I have cruised twice. Pushing ..69 And decided I wanted to travel as much as possible before it becomes really difficult for me. Hawaii and April Portugal cruise this summer holy land cruise in December and and probably a Rhine River cruise For my 70th birthday in 2024. As you well know- Live your best life now and make those memories!
Never ever ever hit the ATM in the casino! Oh sure, convenient during a day at sea, my lowest fee was $10. Highest was $25. Go to customer service. Some ships it's free
My upcoming cruise has checkin 45 days, which is already marked on my calendar! I use our pool table (with hard cover) for pre-packing, separated in sections like clothing & shoes, toiletries, first aid/prescriptions/OTC supplies, etc! Can NEVER plan to thoroughly 😅
Check to see if there are any major events going on in your port city the day your ship leaves. For example; festivals, pro athletic games, space ship launches 🚀. I only live an hours drive from the New Orleans port, but The Saints 🏈 are playing the same day as our next cruise. The fastest route to the port goes right past the Superdome. Traffic will be a nightmare! We will have to adjust our normal routine to leave home A LOT earlier.
I carry two dollar bills for tips, always appreciated by the bar staff, and grab a one-dollar chip from the casino, makes a great souvenir/refrigerator magnet.
@@LifeWellCruised If you let your battery on your phone die, you may be denied boarding on a plane or cruise ship (because you can't show your vaccine status, check-in) and you WILL receive a fine and be quarantined on return to Canada because you can't use the ArriveCAN app.
I always pack antibacterial cloths or spray to clean all areas of cabin, especially now with Covid. As diabetics we always take sugar free cans of cola and tonic water, as few sugar free soft drinks are available.
In terms of medications. I suggest bringing a 30 day supply of all medications especially if you are traveling out of the country. With Covid we now k ow how FAST things change. It is also important if traveling near middle eastern countries some medications we think common are actually illegal. If you are traveling with diabetic supplies have a letter from your doctor to avoid any issues. Also CBD products even those bought at a regular store may be banned from the ship and abroad.
I've come across three of your videos now: 15 things you have to do within 30 days; 12 things you must do within 7 days; and, 12 things you must do before proceeding to the boat. Golly gosh, I'm going to need a holiday to get some breath back from all these things I have to do!
I have a plastic tub that I keep for all the non-clothes things that I take on cruises. I’m a believer in owning duplicates of things so that I don’t have to actually pack from my bathroom. I have all our toiletries and then room items (like magnet hooks, over the door organizer, etc..) that are only used for cruises and they are always ready to go. Saves me so much time packing and unpacking.
Great information! One thing I do is make a check list of what we plan to bring. I put 2 boxes on the check list, 1 for packing at home and 1 for packing to come home so we don't leave anything behind (like phone charger).
We have to do this too! Too many moving parts these days, so we keep a "Cruise Packing List" doc and print and tape it to the inside of our luggage. Helps with packing both for the cruise and with making sure we don't leave anything (except a flock of cruise ducks) behind!
@@LifeWellCruised we used to go to Wells Beach, Maine in February with friends to play cards at beach hotel. Off season rates were cheap and the rooms were on the shore. I had brought a card game with us. I believe we left it behind one year, cause I can't find it anywhere. That's why I started utilizing a pack to take home list.
Very informative. I’m cursing in 3 days out of Baltimore, MD. So excited! It’s been 2 years. We always use our guest room the week before and start laying out clothes, trying on etc. Also, we put a hold on the mail. That’s one that most people don’t think about. Your videos are always great. Thanks for being so helpful to everyone.
I actually have "The Weather Channel" installed on my phone so I can check the weather the day before I leave for my cruise. I can use that to see what the weather is like internationally and track any storms.
Pack a few pocket folders to collect small souvenirs, e.g. postcards, tiny bags of sand, a flower, a feather. And label them.. Especially if children are along.
I wish I'd had 30 days to be ready lmao. Got invited the day before it left by a friend to the Valiant Lady because there was space and it was free. But either way I still had an amazing time, luckily the ship was nowhere near capacity so it was super easy to see shows and book things on the day. Now I keep watching Cruise videos because I really want to go on another in the future.
My husband and I took separate Vacations, I went to Hawaii, my husband went on an Alaskan hunt. Both of us were using our 1 main credit card. We didn't think to notify them before but our answering machine had a lot of messages from them, confused about the extreme distance in location and charges.
Instead of stapling our tags on, we use packing tape on the whole tag. It makes it so much stronger. Then, if it rains or someone mishandles the bags, I don't have to worry about it tearing off.
Yes, I get an area in my closet where I start putting the clothes that I believe I will use. I find this really helpful when you do it with tiene and not when you are stressed preparing all the last minute things that you need to do before departure.
We keep a hanging rolling rack that we break out when we are preparing for cruises. Makes grouping outfits together easy. Afterwards, we break it down & slide it under our bed.
I’ve been on 3 post pandemic cruises. At first it was a little nerve racking to get everything together. Just check and recheck. Have your documents in hand (Covid negative test, shot record and booking pass). You won’t even get into the building until they have been checked. Now these feels like the “new normal” and I’ve got it down. Going on Mardi Gras next month
This is the first I’ve heard about a Covid test or shot records. How soon does this have to be done before cruise day? We are traveling for 2 days prior in Vancouver. (4) 50 something’s. Do we need vaccine info for Princess?
Very comprehensive list for all cruisers Ilana. My two cents about wardrobe: Going from today and the dead of winter to a Caribbean cruise may take a bit of time to find the items I put away for the off-season. And, secondly, try everything one is an absolute. I learned the hard way, coming from New Mexico, the desert southwest is extremely dry. My lizard skin sucked up the Caribbean humidity such that my clothes fit very tight and a ring that I purchased didn't fit my size 8 finger but required a size 11!!!! My husband questioned me if I was getting facials on the cruise because my face was "puffy". Three days back home in the dry desert I was back to lizard skin and needed the ring to be resized.
My cousin and are taking our first cruise in December to Hawaii and your videos have really helped us. We have been watching you the last week and have learned a lot. Thanks 4 the info.
Hello IIana, you're are such a nice 👌 person. Thanks for all the info and helpful tips. I haven't been on a cruise in 10 years. A lot of things changed, especially since covid. I'm planning a cruise for next year. I look at all your videos. Thanks again for sharing your experience. God bless you and your family 👪! 😍🙏🤩🙏
Oh my gosh, I have two kids going off to college in August and September, first cruise in October. So much planning and packing for everything. This is very helpful. Thank you
You can always call your local police and have them do a 'vacation check' on your house a couple of times during the week that you travel. We always do this and it's no charge..
I want to thank you for all the information you give on these videos I will be going on a cruise next year and I never knew 15:12 the things you told me thank you so much for all these tips and now I know exactly what to do this is a great video and I look forward to seeing all of yours you've helped me so much you're the best
Number 5 is a great one. Especially since shipping is so iffy right now, so if you need to order things online they could take longer than expected! I love to actual pull things out and keep them in the suitcase or bag that I will use (except maybe clothing). Just because you may think you have something but can't seem to find it right before you leave. Always better to know.
In the age of Covid, Royal Caribbean has changed a lot of policies. We sail next month and you cannot book any shows until you are physically on the ship. You can buy ship excursions now if you want to get off in port. You cannot schedule specialty meals although you can purchase specialty dinner packages. For Covid testing, it must be done within 48 hours of boarding, which is cutting it very close if one is traveling to the port city the day before sailing. We can’t make the appointment for same until 2 weeks before the day of requested appointment.
Depending on how long your cruise is you want to make sure your utility bills are paid. You don’t want to come home to find your power and water turned off 😎
@@michellev3085 maybe your payment due date falls during your cruise. We do not auto-pay our local utility provider because they’ve made some pretty large errors in the past.
I have a cruise spare bedroom I organize my packing-I call my credit card- I print all my paperwork, including hotel reservations I no longer start packing a month in advance, because I tend to overpack- now I start about 10 days ahead
In a closet I keep 2 drawers dedicated to travel, one of which is specifically for cruising. (I cruise with my daughter’s family and I think she keeps a box in a closet.) About a month out I go through it and make sure nothing needs to be updated. This is especially useful when one of your tips prompts me to add something (like those collapsible cubes from the dollar store - loved them on my last cruise!) I also keep a personalized version of the packing list from your cruise planner on my computer and I print it out and make additions or notes as needed.
Bring sweaters the ships are cold. I live in Florida and find where ever I cruise to in the world the ships are like hospitals. It keeps the germs down!
Roll call. Sailing solo for first time this Sunday. By chance, saw someone on roll call Facebook page that I knew and also going solo. We connected our dining so we wouldn’t be alone with all strangers!!
We've always had a checklist specific to 3 months, month of, week of, day before, and day of list. Through the years, I have improved the list. It also includes items at home, e.g. haircuts, turning off water to home and water heater, etc. Note: Everything is paid for (the year before cruise) using the cruise ship credit card. We can always pay for all tips and escogeons this way. twz
We are taking our second cruise to Alaska in August but this time we are taking our Son and Daughter in Law. They have never been on a cruise so I booked several concierge class balcony rooms on Celebrity Solstice. Your videos have given me a lot of information to make their first cruise a memorable one.
lol I have a Bahama large bag and put my medical bag, toiletries, etc. and a nice suit/ dress bag that has venting on it and a shoe area checked the shoes and packed hubby socks. I bought favorite hair care and body washes not going for 13 months, tried on bathing suits. and only packing 7 days worth and wash clothes for our 14 day cruise. I am so ready to go to Hawaii!!!
I don't have a packing area, but I do have three lists: hot weather, moderate weather, cold/wet weather. Depending on ports, I try to have at least one outfit for each eventuality. I make several phone calls: credit card, bank, and cell phone company. I also stop my mail for longer cruises. I also set up payment for bills if I'm going to be gone when they're due.
I joined a magnet exchange on this cruise. We get the name and room number and in spare time walking the ship we put a magnet on each persons door. And you end up with magnets on your door. Also made crocheted ducks to hide.
Another wonderful video. I also always try to pull out cruise clothes ahead of time. Since it's cold and winter here, it's not a problem to pull out summer clothes, bathing suits, sandals, etc. and then when it's time to pack almost everything is ready to go. I put them in a drawer in my room. I also bring one of those little staplers, just in case the luggage tags need reattached. I send myself a photo of my passport. They're in the cloud, too. The cruise critic roll call and onboard meet and mingle parties have been fun. Lots of info from other cruisers.
Royal Caribbean has changed their policy of reserving specialty restaurants and shows ahead. Now you have to wait until you’re on the ship. I like to go to Target ahead of time because they have an entire isle devoted to travel sized products and containers. If you’re not a regular cruiser, think about buying water shoes for any rocky beaches the ship may visit.
I have a section of my closet to hang up cruise clothes and bought a luggage rack ( like in hotels). I have 2 (one for me and hubby)and start gathering and my luggage racks fit at end of bed
I do have my spare bedroom that I use for my travel room. A nice rack to hang my to go clothes as well as my jewelry hanger. I have a section for my hooks, toiletries and of course makeup. It’s a major convenience You have taught me so much about my 1st cruise. The MSC Meriviglia.
@@LifeWellCruised Jewel of the sea. Royal Caribbean cruise line.... After the 4 previous cruises I've taken. I would need to see a lot of good information to go with anybody else.
We always bring cash for tipping the porters when we check into the cruise. We bring cash to plan to tip our cabin steward five to $10 a day. We also bring a couple of dollars daily for the tip that we give the person that brings our room service. We also bring five dollars for any bus shuttle, tour, that we would think we may do. Then, we bring a little bit extra cash for any souvenirs that might be less than $20 because small businesses have to pay 2-3% to their credit cards for fees. I know we also participate in the gratuities charge to our account, but we feel like we can afford to cruise. These people have not worked for upwards of two years. They are serving us onboard, working seasonally in Alaska, we feel blessed. Therefore we plan to bring cash to cover at least these items. There are two of us who have friends and children who have worked in the service industry.
I have found with Celebrity, if you go to the Spa upon embrarkation and talk to the Spa MANAGER, you can get some deals. Let them give you the tour and work with them on what you're interested in doing. A nice "combo price" might be offered!
Thanks for sharing this information. It was very informative. God bless you! Enjoy your next cruise! I'm going on a cruise next year! It's a lot to retain, but I will make a mental note. Thanks!
A late comment, but consider shutting off your main water supply valve to the house. Pipes have a way of springing leaks, sometimes major ones if the pressure is reasonably high, and it can ruin your home in 6 hours of a health spray.
My guest room is my planning area.I put cruise items in my armoire and hang dresses and other things behind the doors. My 10 day S. Carib cruise is at the end of March and I started pulling things out and putting them in the planning area this summer so I could see if I needed any seasonal items while they were still available .It's hard to find summer items in March.
We cruise in 14 days and I have been checking the Oceania protocols every few days for changes. Also checked country protocols and completed entry forms. We have 6 of the home tests that are proctored and will take those 2 days before the cruise. If a problem with them, cannot go to CVS or Walgreens because absolutely not able to schedule appointments with them. Will pop over to Doc in a Box and pay $150 each for the tests as they will do for walk ins. Also, Oceania is testing shipside before you can board. We start laying out clothes about a week in advance so that will be soon. Already have all specialty dining booked and excursions booked and paid for. Will book a few more dining options on board. Already have $200 in small bills for tips for guides and drivers. I only use American Express and they have told me not to call when I travel, they know already since I book cruises and flights with my Amex. Since i had my SeaDream experience and isolated in Barbados, I now pack at least an extra weeks worth of prescriptions. Already printed everything out except for final boarding health test. Great list of tips and really handy for new or infrequent cruisers. Thanks for sharing.
This is one of my biggest worries: where to get the covid tests pre-cruise. We are a party of 5 and cannot afford to go to a doc in a box and pay those exorbitant fees. My son and his family will be arriving the day before our cruise and, although everyone is vaccinated and we've all had Covid, getting these pre-tests is going to be a big hassle.
I am definitely going to be calling my credit card company before my cruise. I barely use the card and I'm sure an out-of-the-country purchase would arouse some suspicion with them.
Put a "vacation hold" on your home garbage and recycling services. In many jurisdictions you won't get charged for the week (or more) you're away. Good money saving tip.
I learned my lesson the hard way with the excursions. Book an excursion at the last minute for Alaska to go dog sledding on a glacier. It was supposed to be the last group excursion the last day. Clouds came down and the helicopter was not allowed to fly. Had we booked days earlier, we could have done it, as there was no more chance.
