For be, if a room is a mess, I put everything in a box that is out. Then I move the box in the next room. Then I go back and clean everything. Then once it's clean I go through the box and give everything a home or throw it out or give it away. Then my room is clean and then everything is out of the box. If I declutter first I am freaked because my house is a mess and I can't concentrate. Once the room is clean, then I can go to the bin and get the stuff out of there. And because the room is so clean, I don't want to put an item in there and have to declutter again. I will not declutter first. I take it all out, put it in a bin. Clean and then go to the bin. This is easier for me. I have tried many times decluttering, but it irritates me and then nothing gets done. And If I do it my way, I clean it so much faster. So sorry. Thhs is just my way!!!
That seems to be the way I tend to clear out a space. Not so much for cleaning but to cut down on the visible clutter. That way I’m not so overwhelmed. I do try to sort by room so later I take the box to that area. This also helps to see if you have multiple of the same thing. Glad I’m not alone.
When you say clean do you mean clean as in dusting & hoovering etc or do you mean tidying? In the UK to clean something is to dust it etc. I find it confusing. Like people in the US say they are going to clean the toys, that to me means putting them in a washing machine or dishwasher.
I don’t schedule days. My planner/to do list is three ever-evolving lists: Now, Soon, Later. It’s very easy to prioritize simply by moving things to a different list.
I love this video! Also, something I’ve realized on my decluttering/organizing journey is that I’ve had to be honest with myself. I can’t organize and declutter as if I’m the person I dream of being and hold myself to standards and expectations that are just unrealistic and unmaintainable for the me now. It’s ok to like the idea of organizing systems that look like they work great but just don’t for your season of life. I’ve realized I just need to make it easy to put things away as it is easy to clutter. So if that means big clunky open bins for dumping and going then that’s what I can handle right now. Being aware of your bandwidth and abilities is super important when organizing and I wish I had known that sooner. It can be so stressful to try and maintain something I just don’t have time for.
I got rid of seventeen different organizing dressers for my craft room. I bought a second hand Craft Box. I like the clear boxes that you are showing us. It never occurred to me to make sure you have all the same boxes everywhere. That makes perfect sense.
I love this video! I've watched lots of your videos, but this is by far my favourite. It brings together your best organising methods and some I hadn't even seen before. It was also a nice reminder of some of them I'd forgotten. This is definitely bookmarked for watching again! I really liked the reverse organising method ❤. I was feeling overwhelmed and totally disorganised, so the timing of this video was perfect. I needed to clear my brain and go back to basics. I'm now inspired to get organising, thank you! 🎉
Girlie I just stumbled across this video, and (FYI) I immediately shared this helpful video, and I also pushed subscribe to join this channel🫶🏻I’m anxious to see another helpful video of yours ❤
I too am declutterring… organizing…. Redecorating… & cleaning….i am taking way too long…. I like some of your tips… this will help… I am a reverse person… I start with all the drawers & closet first…then …. The rest of the house is a mess… I do the walls & outer areas second…. And last I deal with what’s leftover….any videos you can recommend will help… thanks for sharing!!!❤
You mention using the same bins throughout the house, but I have bins already that are extremely useful. Using them will save money to spend when I need to buy more. As for labels, what about dresser drawers? I don't want glaring labels on the ouside, but it would be good to know what's inside. And finally, the SOP's are great! But I've lost mine 2 years ago when I had back to back health issues (among other things). How do I get them back?
Please do more videos and share more information on the concept of "SOP's". That sounds as if it would be so helpful. Thank you for sharing your organizing talents with us!
When I sort through a closet , the best thing I can do is get rid of unused items. It’s satisfying to put things in the trash or take a box to donate. I know I won’t have to move those items again!
