Totally freakin awesome! :-) (Having worked with lasers since the mid-1970s, I already knew of all of the uses for lasers that you explained in this video, but I found this vid to be an invaluable resource for those people new to laser technology.) BTW I'm expecting a couple of directly-injected diode lasers in the near-future: a 488nm one and a 505nm one. :-D
You can get them on Ebay for ~$80 now; just do a search for "505nm laser pointer" and you should see them listed. One such listing is www.ebay.com/itm/505nm-5mW-Green-Laser-Pointers/223094849126?hash=item33f17d3e66:g:2DYAAOSwcVxba-Rb These lasers use a rechargeable 18650 Li:ION cell for power; if you don't already have such a cell & charger at your disposable, you'll have to procure them when you purchase the laser itself. One such listing is www.ebay.com/itm/PKCELL-18650-Vape-Mod-Battery-and-Charger-2-piece-Real-3000mAh-Smart-Charger/141738189719?hash=item2100412397
The 505nm portable laser could be here as early as tomorrow (if DHL does Saturday deliveries) or Monday! I'm so stoked about it!!! :-) First thing that I'm going to do is perform both broadband and narrowband spectroscopy of it, and *THEN* I'll start shooting photographs of it and its beam terminus spot to add to the web page that I'm constructing for it to be added to my website. And yes, before anybody says that I'm just going to blast things with it (and possibly perform some fluorescence experiments), you're absolutely correct!!! :-) This is a self-contained portable laser, not a lab laser, so I'm not expecting absolute perfection in its beam profile or stability -- but it should still be more than adequate for performing its intended function -- as a handheld optical pointing device.
The 505nm laser arrived just moments ago!!! :-) The color is a bit more on the green side than I expected, but I'll run it through my spectrometer either tonight after sunset or tomorrow before sunrise (so that ambient light doesn't queer the test) and I'll be able to furnish an exact wavelength then.
You should do an in depth video about when to use laser safety glasses like would I be safe looking at a beam and under what circumstances do I not have to use gases
This is an old video but I wanted to add one secret use of lasers and that is for espionage. When Germany was still divided, spies would shoot an invisible laser across West Germany into East German windows to pick up the conversation inside the room. The windows act like a diaphragm, vibrating with the sounds inside which the could be illuminated then picked up by a specially tuned camera.
Also used by chemists to determine the optical isomerism of organic molecules. More specifically, light from lasers will reflect at different angles depending on how atoms are arranged around a chiral carbon atom. This can distinguish 2 enamtiomers that are chemically and physically identical, but have atoms that are arranged differently in space.
8:20... I own that exact model ,just got delivered to my house last week. Its a 1000 mw/450 nm laser, and it's the best in its class I think .Burns very fast ,extremely dangerous and deserves respect.
I mean aren't these extremely good for self defense?U can easily blind ur attacker in self defense situation and not just temporarily but permanently not to mention that type of laser u own can easily be used as bat as well to take down an opponent even though it may break the laser in the inside since usually the metal used for these lasers is aluminum pop metal soft metals basically so yeah but overall a solid build laser in a baton shape can easily be very effective at self defense
@@Dav624I remember I wrote a pretty much the same comment under styropyro's video 2 years ago, and a week ago I actually had a situation where I had to laser down a cracked out homeless person running at me with a knife. Worked like a charm. He instantly covered his face and started walking back. I have a 1W 445nm laser, but shopping for a more powerful one now that I know lasers work. Just be sure to carry around safety glasses in the same backpack pocket as the laser.
I believe they meant what can you do with a laser pointer. Like besides burning and playing with the cat what else do you use your laser pointers for. Not lasers in general.
I use my laser pointer as toys to play with mainly. Like pointing stars and experimenting with the laser beam, burning small things or see how far the beam goes
Great video. About 7 or 8 of those uses I never knew anything about. My smart watch has one or two green lazers in it that points at my wrist from the underside of the watch. I'm guessing it helps it to monitor my pulse.
I get asked the same questions. Especially with my 1watt blue laser because you have to wear goggles to use it. I've just always liked any electronic devices and love to learn about them. It's no different than people that collect stamps. See now to me that's useless but there are people that enjoy it. And that's what matters, if you enjoy what your doing and not breaking laws (with lasers) then what's it matter why people collect what they do?
@@createsomethingclever9249 nah i just blind everyone i see with laser and run away XD blinded 5 people and burned one person hand gonna start wildfire soon laser is so freaking cool
@@createsomethingclever9249 of course..u really think i would blind someone lol?i mean yes its easy especially in day or night at places where no is around except 1-2 people but that would be bad move i know how it would feel like to live without eyes..it would be a disaster so yes i was joking lol guess i went too far though
@@brandonbentley8532 i love it i burned 5 people eyes i burned one person hand and i am literally using it on grass right now just wanna start a wild fire would be epic
Hi. Can someoane please recommend me a violet laser(preferably 500 mw or just under 1 Watt) for under 100 dollars? Thor H seems perfect but i haven't seen any reviews for the purple one. Is it good? Thanks.
Just a friendly FYI: Lasers are violet, not purple. Purple is a mixture of red and blue; violet is a spectral color, encompassing wavelengths of ~380nm to ~420nm. :-) This is an *EXTREMELY COMMON* mistake; please don't feel alone. :-)
I bought a 1w Gatling style blue laser. Still waiting for delivery but I wanted it really bad. But I don't know what I'm going to do with it lol I don't even have a use for it but I wanted it anyway
@mrtawsiti3 I can use it a few nights for about 20 minutes before dimming. I'm guessing because I haven't really kept track. It's not bad though. And no cops called, I do live a mile from a small airport with frequent air traffic but I'm careful. Definitely happy with it, for the price it's actually amazing and lots of fun
@mrtawsiti3 forgot to mention I did have to purchase a different charger because the one it came with didn't work. And picked up a couple spare batteries so I could always have some charged
I just took my laser away from my 19 year old son because if you take the tip off, it'll go across the canyon where there's another house. I don't even know how far it will really go but we have planes flying over all the time and I don't really don't want any unwanted visits from the sheriff's dept. Guess it was more of a novelty idea that I don't have a use for than anything else
@@nuguns3766 It wasn't his to begin with and no, I don't trust him. My son's in the spectrum with anger issues, though he's been pretty good for some time now, but that can change anytime and I'm sure he's curious but if we went out to the desert with it, it would be different. I did it in Arizona and found it didn't go as far as I thought but will still go at least a half mile or more
@@JamesBond-py8xs ur on a head trip protecting him from no danger. People no matter what they may be diagnosed for get angry for a reason. He might be angry at you for a long time. Since you took a harmless pointer from him, I'd be angry at you for it. My dad has done stuff that has made me so upset for so long but never understood why I was angry and blamed me for it that I started to stop caring about my well being and stayed nice to him when he wronged me. I'd be angry cause he hurt me and protected myself from being hurt by lashing out.
@@XM360 nah they are fine bruh i just blinded only 5 people till now and burned one person hand and nearly started wild fire i would say its pretty cool if u are careful that thing is a beast
I've got a questions do i have to where glasses when using a 5mw green laser? What about 80mw? And when do I have to wear them let's say I want to use a laser for astronomy purposes would I be safe as long as I don't point it directly in my eye would it be okay to just look at the beam? what about the dot?
Get pepper spray for self defense, and a 5mw laser for entertainment, along with some way to have a foggy room, be it a fog machine or a hot shower so that you can see the beam.
Fairly local??? Does anyone ever just smile n look around ...then look around n then smile...becuz lazers can put a tremendous set a things to rest n ,then there's letting sets of things hinder your quality of life bcuz ....well u get the gest...HAPPY JAN 21 2023...
I think if it is stronger than 1w or 1000w and if you are close to him and you are pointing it on his face you can distract him long enough because he doesn’t see it coming Btw have you tried this?
