Thank you so much for your heart-felt reaction! Meet The Netherlands singing sensation Emma Kok: Emma Kok, 15, has won the hearts of many with her amazing voice and incredible talent. In fact, she won The Voice Kids 2021 Netherlands as well as the first episode of the Dutch talent show, Ministars. In September 2023, she was awarded the GirlPower Tina Award. But what sets Emma apart from other young singers is her incredible strength and determination to achieve greatness despite the challenges she has faced in her young life. Emma only knows how to speak Dutch and English. For “Voila,” she learned French phonetically to cover the song. (“Voila” was written and performed by Barbara Pravi to represent France for the Eurovision Song Contest of 2021. It came in second.) Since birth, Emma has had a paralyzed stomach (gastroparesis) which means that she cannot eat or drink like most people do. Instead, she is fed intravenously for 22 hours a day. She says the only time she feels free is the two hours she is not connected to the tubes that are hooked to her two feeding packs. As a child, Emma was bullied by her classmates and ridiculed because they did not understand her condition. She could not participate in many of her classmates’ activities. Despite her condition, Emma has not let it stop her from pursuing her dreams. Emma has become an inspiration to many, not just for her singing ability but also for her resilience, kindness and positive attitude off stage. With grace and humility, Emma shares her story with the world in the hopes of raising awareness about her condition and to inspire others to never give up on their dreams. She has started a foundation called Gastrostars to help raise awareness and funding to study this disease and hopefully provide a cure for it someday. The world famous conductor, Andre Rieu, with his 70-member Johann Strauss Orchestra, has asked Emma to tour with him in 2024 which she has agreed to do. Just some additional info to point out how incredibly brave this 15 years old Emma Kok is: - Two food pumps are connected - The pumps are connected to her 22 hours per day! - She was bullied at school The audience (±12.000 heads) is mainly Dutch 🇳🇱, but also from Belgium 🇧🇪, Germany 🇩🇪, Luxembourg and France 🇫🇷. Part of the audience does speak French and knows exactly what Emma is singing. This makes it even more emotional. Not since I first heard Disturbed's cover of Sounds Of Silence have I been so impacted by a performance. I first saw this performance of Emma Kok about a month ago, and I have no shame in admitting that it brought me to tears. The same thing happened the second and third time I watched it. Her performance, expression, her voice, just exceptional. I checked on a few of her performances from The Voice Holland, and she has definitely evolved and developed so much as a singer in just 2 years! That final note!!! WOW WOW WOW. I learned that whilst Dutch, and speaking multiple languages is quite common, Emma doesn't speak French and learned this song's lyrics phonetically. Her pronunciation in the song is pretty spot on. A few misses here or there, but still leaps and bounds ahead of anything I would dare try. What an amazing young woman who I sincerely hope goes on to continue to enjoy what she does, and entertain and enthral many many more people.

And yes, they're a musical family, because as André already told, her brother is a violinist, but her sister is also a singer. Emma had her own theatershow last year and there are several video's of her performances during this show and one of them is of her and her sister singing Starry, Starry Night together.

First time seeing your channel. You asked for recommendations. One of the most incredible live performances I have come across as someone that has been collecting music for about 4 decades now, has to be Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb, Pulse Concert 1994. The song is iconic in terms of (psychedelic) rock anyway, but the stand out is David Gilmour who not only sings as the lead, but also literally makes his guitar sing. The last third of the performance is quite possibly the greatest guitar solo of all time, and that is high praise considering all the other absolute greats in that category. I am sure you will enjoy it.

The new song was not written for her - it waited on the composer's shelf for 20 years for Emma to come along and find it. And the lyrics are such a perfect fit, as she describes in her own introduction. Well worth it - and you can tell us if you think that she has developed in the intervening period.
