LOVE the main message here. What a breath of fresh air. Yt is full of “if you don’t homeschool, you hate your kids” and similar ideas. So tired of it. Thank you for making this video!

It's so nice to hear someone who doesn't preach 'homeschool is the ONLY way!' One of my children is such a poor fit for homeschooling and thrives in the classroom. I tend to beat myself up over that.

This was really eye opening, thank you to your son for sharing his perspective. It makes me really think about my kid’s individual personalities and what it best for each of them as they get older.

Absolutely - I’m so glad it was encouraging… Our kids truly are created as individuals and the beauty we have is that we don’t have to force them into a box!

this has been one of the MOST helpfull and honest video I have seen about all three forms of education but what has been even more beneficial to me has been hearing about your son's high energy perspective. Thank you for sharing it!!! my 6 year old son deals everyday with a lot of what your shared. I am convince now that he has some form of ADD or ADHD, but I often see that understimulation is even worst than overstimulation for him. THANK YOU for all those helpfull tips.

Thank you both for sharing this!!!!! I just had an ahah moment. I have a very high energy teen boy and a very emotional teen girl. We are homeschooling right now. I've figured out that I need to give my son active breaks or he takes them by going to the bathroom. He uses our trampoline, basketball, elliptical etc. to calm his body for study. He paces while reading aloud. If he sits he can't focus. So he walks around while reading. Homeschool has been so great for him because I have been able to fill in gaps in his public education. He loves science but struggles with math. So we are working on those skills. He is also my social bug!!! It is the only thing he misses about public school. We were in a co-op last year and this year our studies don't allow for it. He loves youth night at church!!! My daughter is the opposite. She can sit for hours. Is more quiet and less outgoing. She struggles when my son fidgets in class because the noise bothers her concentration on her studies. She usually leaves the room to work on individual subjects. Listening to you talk about understimulation I just realized that my daughter is getting overstimulated by my son's activity. Now how to solve both issues with curriculum for next year?? My son thrives on togetherness and my daughter wants to do it by herself. I've been trying to figure out if their fighting is just their age but I think it's partly their personalities and their learning styles. Both my kids struggled at public school. I've been trying to find the best homeschool option for them. I tried duplicating school but at home the first year. That was a bad idea. I've only been in public school so it's what I knew. Both of them want to listen to music while learning. I've struggled with that because I thought it would be more of a distraction than a help. I plan to homeschool through high school.

How funny - your video randomly came across my feed. I think my nephew might go to his school (if it’s PreK-12 in central IL) - my family lives right by the school!

Please thank your son for me! This momma appreciates his input! I just found your channel so forgive me if you have answered this in your previous emails but… Did you ever take him to co-ops? Or any activities with other kids when he was being homeschooled? I just want to know if he felt that way even with the social activities with other kids. Or, if he actually just needed more. I have a son that friends is a big part of his life and haven’t decided on homeschooling because of that reason. Thanks!

Hey there - thank you so much for your message… And yes, we did do co-ops and other activities when he was homeschooled. That was very important to him and to us that he had time with really good friends. We have gone through seasons of co-ops and seasons of no co-ops. For the last few years, we haven’t been doing a co-op but we will probably be doing something next year as I can tell my kids would love to have that back in their life.

This is such a great video. I have a vey high energy/ adhd child who is 7 and this is very interesting. I have one specific child who really struggles and I feels needs to be homeschooled. He’s 8, ( not my high energy child) how have you dealt with or have you had to deal with push back letting one go to public school and then homeschooling another?

Truthfully - just learning to trust my mother intuition and then walking in it. Learning to plug my ears to all of the “Noyes” around me and just walking in it.

Would you say from your experience that even if the children go into a school environment is best when they already build a better understanding of right and wrong and would be harder to be negatively influenced, let’s say when they are 6, 7th grade, or that would be the age when the transition would be even harder? And just curious because ur son mentioned one of the main challenges of homeschooling was social life, didn’t after school activities made it up for it?

I definitely think it’s beneficial to have a strong foundation… But more importantly, I think it’s good to know your child and what they need and where you feel like God is leading - according to my belief. Having a relationship in which you can communicate with your kids is of upmost importance no matter where you’re at. I don’t want my kids to be afraid to come to talk to me… Instead, I want them to feel like if something crazy happens. I’m the first person they want to come to. So we work very hard towards that. And yes… The extracurricular things that we did were helpful to him socially when he was younger. But as he got to high school age, he just really desired more, which I think is quite normal for highly extroverted people.

How was their transition from homeschool to public school? Especially with going in as late as he did. I only ask because my cousin was homeschooled (also considering homeschooling my son) and went in 6th grade but it was a hard transition for him since he got picked on a lot when he went to public.

For some of my kids, it was a challenge and others it wasn’t… But you know we’ve actually experienced that in homeschool communities as well. I wish it never happened anywhere but sadly it does. That’s why we focused so much on our relationship with our kids so they know to always come to us with anything. And also preparing them for the reality of the world I think is really important… At the right time and age appropriate

I love this!! And thank you so much for sharing! Do you feel like it was hard for him to go into the school when he was older? We are deciding whether to keep our son in private school or the public school in high school.

You are so welcome, and not for him in particular. He had to adjust academically because we primarily homeschooled classically. This school is not like that. Socially - he was ready and loved it ! When my oldest went into public school as a freshman, it was a massive adjustment for her, but her personality is polar opposite of my son

That's the plan! We don’t know however, we take it year by year and child by child… Our oldest, despite her freshman and sophomore year in public school, was homeschooled every other single year.
