Itchy Boots is coming your way, you should collaborate for a portion of her route, but I know you are time limited and the planets would have to align. Would be nice though.
Her current videos are from Baja but there is a delay in her filming to release date. She is probably in the states now heading for Alaska, so possibly Nevada ?
@@samhill3496 It's at least 2 months. A guy from the motorcycle dealership in San Diego (with a red shirt, visible in the background) posted pics with her in May.
Thanks for mentioning Itchy boots! Her channel is great. In my 20’s I went on a bike ride with a friend from London to the Island of Crete.. and back. 🙈First time on any bike. An experience but so much fun to watch you guys and now itchy boots.
Looking Good Blanco! You’ve got some beard going, some dirt in your ears and a certain lilt to your voice as your out there giggling your way through epic wild country. Hats off!
Good advice. Some of our small mountain ranges and the spaces in-between are a great way to escape the tourist areas. And epic dual sport riding. You will need extra gas sometimes. Thanks for visiting.
Juan, I think that's funny that you are thinking people to take a break from what you do otherwise on RU-vid, but the reason I found you was because you are riding motorcycles on cool Trails. I know this is one of your passions and I love watching these videos as well. Keep enjoying yourself!
In the mid 1990's I had a motorcycle tour business based out of Bozeman called Montana Moto Tours. I guided and had 6 DR 350 Suzuki's and rented them to my customers. Did it for about 3 years, it was difficult because the season was so short, 4 months at most..... And I was constantly battling the state and the forest service that really didn't like the whole idea, so I gave it up. Have fun, watch out for the critters..... AZ is hot right now so I'm wishing I could be there with ya on my "white" Fe 450, but now we know why you went out and bought that red bike......🤣👍 Thanks!
Sorry you weren't able to get through up north. Head on over towards Lincoln and ride the dirt track through Garnet Ghost Town. It'll put you out by Bearmouth which is just a quick hop over to Drummond and down through Philipsburg. From there head over Skalkaho and into the Bitterroot. And then over into the Wisdom/Big Hole or back into Idaho over the Nez Perce. Lots of great riding around there.
Love the fuel efficiency of the smaller motors. Opens up so many possibilities. Big boys are running for the fuel station and you still have a half tank.
It’s not only the fuel economy. The sub 300cc machines are enormously less challenging to manage in the knarly environment. The lighter weight means much more fun in the beyond less traveled.
Side Qs/curious to know... for someone who hasn't done trail riding since their teens (and is now in their early 50s) is there by chance any worthy "automatics" or "semi-automatic" that could "hang" with friends who ride similar trails seen in the video, that ride/own Honda CRF 300s(?)
You could get an Africa twin with DCT but that’s a much bigger heavier bike or you could put a Rekluse auto clutch on the CRF 300. Rekluse would keep you from stalling in sand or going uphill in the loose stuff. I have a Rekluse on my KLR 650 and love it. Only downside is you can’t push start the bike if your battery dies.
@@Lt_Tragg Same is true with snowmobiles. I recently downsized to a 600 from an 800. So much easier to ride and with the weight savings, the power to weight ratio is good enough for me. I'm 180 pounds and can barely hold onto the machine when I crank it wide open. How much power do you really need?
Thank you taking the time to make these videos and share you journey with all of us who tune in to you. Take care and be safe and look forward to your next post. Your in beautiful country and since I am in West Texas it's nice to pretend I am on the journey with you.
Thanks for that update with the comparison with Itchy Boots and yourself really appreciate just be able to understand a little bit more of the 300 Honda. Must be a relief to have accommodations for the night!! All the best from Surrey BC Canada
Juan so glad you're posting this adventure! I love to ride my Can Am ATV, nothing better than some time off of work and planning a lot of seat time. Great stuff have fun!
You make me want another motorcycle real bad! LOL My last long distance bike was a 1978 BMW R100-RS-E. It was built for the Belgium police department, I bought it "grey market" from a dealer here in the US. From 1978 to 1996 I rode it 400,000 miles in the US and Canada. No major breakdowns, and a dozen tire patches on the road! LOL I loved that bike! Last I knew it was still in NY and being ridden! I also had a dozen other bikes over the years. (long sigh)... 8) --gary
I landed my plane near Copper Basin, and met a lady Master Mariner, (something like that) tugboat captain anyway, from Alabama. She was just leaving, had her Yamaha dual sport all loaded up. Don' t know if you hit the Gravelly Range ride, my favorite low level Montana flying, incredible scenary.
This series of your travels has got to be the best commercial for Honda that money can't buy. Did you know that Honda is the largest producer of Internal combustion engines in the world?
My buddy took his CRF300L Rally on tough single track with me last week and didn't slow down at all. The Rally can do it all. It's all personal preference.
I bought one of those 1 gal. Giant loop gas bags also. Along with the Great Basin, Tillamook and Fandango tank bag. Restored my Honda XR650R and turning it into an Adventure Bike. It has the Baja Design light/legal kit on it, it has a Ca. plate. I had a Tenere 700 on order but never came and gave up on getting it. One issue is it is a kick start and I'm as old as Juan. Will see how it goes, almost done with it and will ride local, to Big Bear. They has lots of trails Some very hard to ride even if on a full on dirtbike.
Big Bear... Have you ever tried the Desert View trail, from Holcomb Valley to John Bull Flat? My dad attempted part of it in the early '70s with our International Travelall. Last time I saw it, in 2009, it was just boulders.
Sad that more and more land is being closed off to riders. Sad that there are riders that deserve to be shut out. Gotta ride it as soon as possible, while you still can. I have to ride it through YOUR eyes. Thanks for taking me along Juan. I am enjoying this VERY much..
Hi Juan. Nice to see you back on track (should I say bike 😁). Hope you're doing well (and better), and if not before, hope to see some videos from Oshkosh (Scott said you'll probably be there)👍. Ride home safe and happy landings (roads if you prefer) from Portugal
Rode thru flood waters on a back road on my Honda XL-350 years ago. We knew the road well but the next thing we knew we were laying on our side in the water. There was a big old Snapping Turtle laying submerged in the road.
The land owners and environmentalists have locked down much in Montana since the 1980s. It hasn't been a very friendly OHV state fron the standpoint of land managers either.
Just got the rally. Only barely more expensive and heavy. Some of the weight is 1.3 gallons more of gas. Honestly, I doubt the L would go anywhere I couldn't take rally. There is so little difference that it would only come down to rider. But the suspension is definitely from "Dollar General " lol. But after having an African twin, then 450L and now Rally I can easily say the Rally is the bike for me. (That's with over 30yrs of riding dirt)
Hey Juan, love your channel! I’m 5’7” tall with a 30” inseam. Do you think I can reach the ground on while sitting down on the CRF300L? BTW I’ve been riding for 50+ years both on and off road.
I just watched Itchy Boots latest video, as she is currently coming up through Baja California, just before coming to watch yours. I was going to mention her to you and post her link, but it seems you already know about her channel.
Have to include Bozeman! You know Zen etc.... 😂 And Bozeman is one of two cities I ever visited in the US. (Other one was Boston). 🙂 Have a safe and enjoyable trip! 👍
if you get around dillion mt head north on 15 to apex ranch exit. head west up birch creek rd. to dinner station campground & picnic area. keep going past that then across the creek and up to pear & may lake. there is an old mining settlement in that valley
Beautiful spot! Sorry to hear the whackos are out ruining off-roading, just as they have been the past 35 years. I often wonder if I could still do this - I've been off of 2-wheels off-roading for many years. Looks like a blast, but not sure my arms, legs, and shoulders could handle it now. I'm also 50 lbs. heavier than when I was in my 20's. Only one way to find out I guess! :) I still have my '84 XL350R, but I haven't fired her up in 9 years. Last time she ran was out in CA around Livermore when we went to visit my buddy. I did get that crap gas out of the tank as soon as we got back, then after it sat a year I made sure to get ALL the fuel out of the tank. Hopefully won't be much work to get her making CO again, aside from a new battery. 👍
I still love my CB500X RR, but 130+ less weight would be sweet. I'm so excited they have a kit for this bike...its on my short list for a "dirt bike" that is road legal. Keep the content coming,...I know the Air videos probably do better, but we fellow travelers love them. #brap
Juan's vids persuaded me to get a 500x last year...bought it at the Sturgis rally lol... so far just have a set of tkc80's, tank/tail bags and barkbusters added. Highway/ dirt roads are great but the weight on trails is tough to deal with. This winter I've got a weight reduction plan in mind centering on the exhaust and headlight/fairing area. If I had more time a 500x engine on one of those new 300's would prob be the ultimate
What are your thoughts on theWhat are your thoughts on the KTM 350 excf versus the 300 L? I know they're completely different bikes but which do you prefer?
After my comment yesterday, I realized that I was mistaken. You are right, Itchy Boots (Noraly) rides a CRF300 “Rally”. Thank You for correcting me. As Elon Musk says, “Try to be less wrong”.
Good stuff. Personally I kinda hate gas anywhere but the tank - could get punctured, the smell of gas gets onto other things nearby, etc. Looks like IMS now has a 2.5gal tank for the 300L. Hopefully Acerbis or others will come out with something >= 3gal which would be about perfect.
