***Watch my initial review of the Model Y: • One Month of Dailying ...
This summer, I roadtripped my friend’s Model Y 1500 miles between California and Utah. Here’s what you need to know before roadtripping a Tesla or any other electric vehicle.
-------------------------------
0:00 - Hey guys James here!
0:35 - 1. Slower = faster
1:25 - 2. Range estimates - accurate?
2:28 - 3. Caution: Low battery at Supercharger stops
3:28 - 4. Supercharger network quality
4:35 - 5. Extreme weather vs. efficiency
6:08 - 6. Autopilot & FSD are awesome
7:01 - Summing up
-------------------------------
This vehicle:
2020 Tesla Model Y
Dual Motor Long Range
Solid Black Exterior, Black Interior
20" Induction Wheels
5 Seat Configuration
Standard Autopilot
Odometer: 17,900 miles as of filming
#Tesla #EV #Roadtrip
The Tesla Model Y competes with vehicles like: Ford Mustang Mach-E, Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Kia Niro EV, Volvo XC40 Recharge, and VW ID.4.

I can count on stopping every 3 hours or 225 miles or so driving a Yperformance at 75-80mph

Good video, James! Interesting and helpful information. Thanks!

I saw a test where the cars could go double the ratings but they were at 25mph the entire time😂 If you aren’t going to make it, you might have to go the minimum highway speed of 45 and turn on your hazards

At 25mph, slower would in fact be slower 😂

Great practical info James. Was always wondering about that large glass roof in hot climates. Sure it comes in handy though in colder extremes.

Enjoyed your video tremendously. Have driven 12 000 km this year in road trips, and agree that the trip accuracy of estimated numbers remaining are not necessarily foolproof. I’m nearly 60 yrs old, and LOVE my T3 LR 2020. Will NEVER go back to ICE vehicles, and feel honoured (literally) every time I drive ‘her’. Canadian trips in temps from -40 C to 38 C. I’m also FINALLY in FSD Beta program. Love, love, love!

Great video! Now subscribed. We took our 2022 MYP from Minneapolis to Chicago then to Detroit. We returned to Minneapolis thru the Upper Peninsula and across Wisconsin. We tried using the Auto Pilot (not enhanced or FSD) and we had many instances of phantom braking. Granted it relieves the legs a bit but I had to be very alert and ready to take over if it decided to brake for no apparent reason. I would not recommend using AP in any kind of traffic that may result in you getting rear ended because of a phantom braking incident. That's my two scents💩💩😁

I find setting climate controls to Auto with recirculation on, cools the interior way better and more efficiently. Give it a try!

Add a reflective sunshade and the AC won't have a heavy load on the battery.

Hi there! A few things Insee effecting milage is elevation change, weight on board like extra passengers/cargo and tire pressure seem to make a difference. My efficiency seems to be worse in rainy conditions too, not exactly sure that is. Thanks for sharing your tips!

Great points, Jared. I’ve noticed decreased efficiency with rain as well. My best guess is that it takes a non-negligible amount of energy to move all that water out of the path of the tires, but if anyone knows for sure, please leave a comment 🙌🏼

Drag is one factor and probably the largest.

I don’t have the roof bars yet. Do they make much noise unloaded?
@JamesPlaysWithCars
@JamesPlaysWithCars Год назад
There is noticeable wind noise from the bars, so I’d recommend them only if you truly need them!
