From another YT Channel: Ennio Morricone, who died today in Rome, wrote his own obituary yesterday. Tomorrow it will be published in all main newspapers in Italy. "I, Ennio Morricone, have died. I’m announcing my death to all my friends that have always been close to me and to those who I haven’t seen for a while. I salute them with great affection. Impossible to name all of them. I do want to dedicate a special mention though, to Peppuccio and Roberta, brotherly friends, extremely present in these last days of our life. There is only one reason that pushes me to send my farewell to all of you in this way, and for which I’ve decided to have a private funeral: I do not want to disturb. I say goodbye with great affection to Ines, Laura, Sara, Enzo and Norbert, thanking them for having shared with my family and me a big part of my life. I want to remember with love, my sisters Adriana, Maria and Franca and their loved ones and let them know how much I’ve loved them. An intense, full and profound goodbye goes to my children Marco Alessandra, Andrea and Giovanni, my daughter in law Monica, my grandchildren Francesca, Valentina, Francesco and Luca. I hope they will understand how much I’ve loved them. Last, but not least, Maria to whom I renew the extraordinary love that has kept us together and that I really regret leaving. I send my most painful farewell to her."

I was first introduced to Morricone while watching, "The Mission," at a small theater on a U.S. military base in what was then, West Germany. I bought the Soundtrack the next day and was forever a fan. I'd even go to movies just because he did the score.

At first, I didn´t want to watch this one, since "Cinema Paradiso" left me in tears the first time I watched it back in 1995. The music was so profoundly touching that I couldn´t find any sleep after watching the film. In fact, it turned out that for that special reason I just couldn´t rewatch the film for several years after. So I knew it´d be hard to watch your take on Ennio. But there I was. And then I was glad I watched it, anyway: Listening to this particular piece of music made me cry again (allright), but also reminded me of (maybe better) times when people were able to tell humble but profound stories about friendship, love and that ole whole human condition.

Make sure you watch the one with subtitles, not overdubs. The kid's voice is all wrong with the overdubs. I don't remember if I saw the longer cut.

Ennio Morricone -- I worked with him in the mid 80s when I recorded and mixed "The Untouchables" at Clinton Recording in NYC. We were both retired trumpet players and got along great! He had an intimate understanding of brass instruments and how to let them blossom. A real gentleman and a joy to work with. Lee, I think the first time you and I worked together was on "Conspiracy Theory" with Carter Burwell at Sony scoring. You are a real gentleman as well!

What a beautiful tribute. I had the immense pleasure of meeting Mr. Morricone in 2013 when my wife and I visited Rome. We were introduced by a mutual acquaintance and had lunch together. Funnily enough, when I shared with him that I saw music in colors and images, he told me he did as well. Mr . Sklar, thank you for paying tribute to this titan. His genius will be missed.

R.I.P. Ennio Morricone. The loss of this phenomenal composer fills me with a deep and profound sense of sadness. He was my favorite living composer. His music invoked powerful emotions and filled my life with such beauty that was wonderous, mystifying, inspiring, rousing, romantic, heartfelt and heartbreaking. While I am eternally grateful that his works are legendary and will ensure that his legacy will never be forgotten, the void left by his passing has left a yawning chasm in my heart and brings me to tears. May God and the angels receive his beautiful soul with great joy and comfort our bereft hearts and mournful spirits.

I LOVE CINEMA PARADISO. Morricone is a genius. My father, who passed in '92 and was 1st generation born in America of Italian immigrants, had the deepest affection for this film, its score, and composer. Its one of the soundtracks of my youth...not too many know of it. Brings me to tears with the opening notes. Much respect, Mr. Sklar.

Cinema Paradiso is a film *with heart*. It's also extremely funny. If anyone here or anyone you know has never seen a foreign film with English captions, this would be one of the very best places to start. BTW, I watched an Italian film called "Copperman" on the plane coming back from Florence last year, I laughed so hard and so often the guy in the seat behind me got mad because his movie screen, on the back of my seat, was shaking around and interfering with whatever he was watching !

I suggest to everyone, who doesn't know Ennio Morricone very well, to search up a list of all his work. So many both Italian and American movies with his music it's borderline ridiculous. So much to discover. Not just western themes.. Many different kinds. Just like this beautiful love theme! And I agree: If you never seen Cinema Paradiso. Do so.

There are protections but we are exposed by the knuckleheads who refuse to wear a mask and try to engage us in debate to justify their idiocy. Unfortunately work kept me from viewing most of the clubhouse tonight but was able to watch the final five minutes. I'm hoping thay my schedule allows me to watch the next one. I truly enjoyed the bit that I did see. Love all you do.

As a (normally) hard rock/heavy metal musician, it is hard for many of my band mates to understand my love for orchestral music, show tunes, and other "unacceptable" forms of music. I have, in fact, been fired from two separate bands for having songs like this playing in my car where and when they could hear it. This is music for . It is music for 80 year old grandmothers, not "rock stars" . Well, my last firing was 15 years ago, and I am still listening. Thank you for turning me on to this individual. I had not heard his music before; however, I promise this is not the last one I listen to. I can't wait to see what you bring us next.

@thecollective1584
@thecollective1584 4 года назад
@@1962RJP It's not so much forging my own path. My grandfather played with Lawrence Welk. When I was a child, my father listened to Dylan, Donovan, the Stones, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash, etc. Mom listened to Ferante and Teicher, Mozart, Hayden, etc. My Dad would take me to the barracks when he had things to do (Dad was a Marine, and I was the platoon "mascot") and I would hear Motown, Blue Cheer, Ray Price, and every sort of music imaginable. In high school at a VERY small school (I graduated with 33 kids) the band instructor played with Woody Herman and Artie Shaw and turned us into a big band. My best friend's father turned me on to Maybard Furguson, Coltrain, Charles Mingus, Thelonius Monk, etc. My friends and I listened to all of the usual rock suspects. My brother listened to early-mid 80's rap. I grew up with a love and respect for MUSIC, regardless of its form. Not everyone is as lucky. There are a HUGE percentage of metal musicians who view all others as sub-standard. I'm not one.

Let's face it. If what you wrote is true, you simply surrounded yourself with a bunch of morons. Good riddance.Most likely, one of the best things that happened to you both professionally and personally. If someone fires a member because this one listen to a kind of music they don't like, they have no clue what music is so... being out is a win. There's no need to say how closely related and how influential 'classical' music is for metal, and list all the examples, and all the collaborations of bands with orchestras. Ignoring this by your mates already shows their ignorance. As for orchestral music in general, film scores, etc. not being for 'rock stars' but for grannies. Well, they've clearly never met any REAL rock star and I bet their grandmothers wish they had better grandsons. Morricone was a bloody genius, of of many our country generated. You'll love his work (which is vast... so vast). Rock on!

What about Sergej Tankian playing with orchestra? What about Metallica playing with orchestra? And Yngwie Malmsteen, Scorpions, Aerosmith, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant? And Freddie Mercury snging with Montserrat Caballé? They should read those name and bury themselves for the shame. Rock stars... pfff, they have no clue. Be thankful.

Completely agree with you, listening to an orchestra live, when you love music, there's nothing as deeply emotional and powerful musicallly, even the best "modern music" gig can't compare and i've seen so many wonderful ones from Prince, Phil Collins, Sting, Stevie Wonder, Peter Gabriel and so on...the loss of maestro Moriconne is terrible and now for me only one of the greatest film composer remains, John Williams. I'm a huge fan of his work along with Goldsmith, Moriconne, Barry and when he will pass away that will deeply afect me as his music is a big part of my musical life.

Last week I watched it again for the 100th+ time and it still amazes and impresses me like the first time I saw it in the 90s. Also checkout the Pat Metheny & Charlie Haden version of this tune and the other movies by Tornatore like the ''Legend of the Ocean Pianist' or 'Malena', all with the great music of Ennio Morricone. Mr. Morricone left behind a wonderful body of work that will touch many hearts. Thanks Leland for honoring. Good luck with the clubhouse. Stay safe.

The Maestro Ennio, my favourite composer, to me the one and only which could sit for a "virtual" dinner with giants like Beethoven and Mozart...thank you for this beautiful and touching tribute.He was (and always will be) our italian pride. In this sad moment I'm (despite everything) happy that his heritage, his immortal music, will last.And everyone, with a simple click, will be able to listen to it whenever they want. Stay safe, mister Leland.
