15th Month - (The Baby Becomes a MOM) NO filter, NO CO2, NO Ferts 5 Gallon Nano Tank

This is 15th month update. The fish are called Sparking or Pygmy gourami.
These two gouramis became friends pretty quickly. The female is still the queen of the tank.
After the first spawn, I checked the tank every day for the fry, but I could not find any. The tank overgrew too much and the water change was overdue for a long time. The tank nearly crashed before I decided to tear out most of the plants. Because of the lack of light, the plants below couldn’t release oxygen and take up nutrients, essentially breaking the working balance of the tank. I believe that’s why the nerite almost died. A lot of the shrimp also perished. Most of the color shrimp are gone. Some were eaten by the gouramis, and others from the poor condition of the tank. I only saw one Amano, also. Among the color shrimp, only one cherry, one blue, and three chocolate shrimp remained. Most of the adult wild shrimp are gone, too, but a lot of the new shrimplets are doing fine.
The most amazing thing about these gouramis, especially the female, was the way they took care of their young.
Infusoria was made with collected sample from this tank. I used fresh spinach boiled for 10 minutes and one Hikari algae wafer. This was shown before here:

After watching this series I just had to try and replicate for myself. I couldn’t get the exact same tank here in Aus, so I’m using a ADA cube garden 30x30 which I absolutely love. 2 Months in and my tank is beautiful. My plants are going nuts and have to be cut back at least fortnightly and my gouramis are getting ready for their 2nd round of breeding. It is by far my favourite tank… so THANK YOU.

While I've never kept fish or had interest in fish, I am awestruck to see a fish act with intent looking for and relocating babies. These videos are wonderful.

So much drama in 5 gallons of water. I was on the edge of my seat. I see the male gouramis aren't brutal to the females the way bettas are. Wonderful video!

Anyone know what that stuff was that the one fish kept eating after they mated? Like some white flake popped out every time and the fish ate it.. I'm confused lol

Aegon One It’s the eggs. The male squeezes the female so the eggs will fall out of her. The female will be a little limp each time this happens. The eggs are then transferred to the bubble nest the male has made. It looks like he’s eating the eggs but nah.

Yeah, sparkling gourami. They're labryinth fish like Betta, so they can breath surface air. Both build bubble nest too. So, some similarities to Betta.

The female and male are so sweet in my opinion. They really took care of their babies and that’s endearing to know.
