At Night All Blood is Black by David Diop is INCREDIBLE. Jack Edwards recommended this and it didn’t miss. It’s about these two friends from a small village fight in WWI for France and one friend begs the main character to kill him after being horribly injured. He goes against his wishes and allows him to die a slow, agonizing death, and the story follows the protagonist grappling with the grief and the guilt. It’s so so beautiful, HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Middlemarch is definitely on my tbr for this summer as well! My vacation is half in July, half in August, so either works! Also, I just turned on my brand new a/c for the first time about three hours ago, and they have been the comfiest three hours OF. MY. LIFE.

historical fiction is my favourite genre, some i've read in the past year & adored: - a gentleman in moscow - betty - the island of missing trees - where the crawdads sing - violeta - the parted earth + all the light we cannot see is one of my all-time favourites!

One of my favs to this day is “The Danish Girl”, pretty famous for the movie but I don’t see a lot of people talk about the actual book! It’s based on the life of the real Lily, but it reads like fiction and since it’s June… you know 🥰💕

I definitely vote for a reading vlog for Middlemarch, but that's purely for my own selfish reasons 😂 I know I won't make it to the live show, but I can watch a reading vlog any time.

500 comments?! Doubtful you’ll be seeing this but, for what it’s worth, I wanted to suggest what @emmie did when she read War and Peace. She uploaded a reading vlog every 500 pages and also had a live show for the book. I loved this idea because it kept us all abreast with her progress and also gave us space to share our final thoughts. It WILL mean a lot of work for you but, as a viewer and someone who would potentially be reading along, that format really worked for me. Lots of love❤️

Oh, Noelle, I squealed when you talked about _all the light we cannot see_ because I have also been sitting on it for YEARS, it was even on my summer tbr last year and yet I still haven't read it... perhaps seeing you read it will give me the motivation 🤞 In terms of other historical fiction, I will join the bandwagon and say _the book thief_ which is amazing and I believe the first book that ever made me cry. But also another historical fiction(ish?) that I think would be right up your alley is _the vintner's luck_ : it's not as well known but it has the kind of gorgeous poetic writing that I think you would enjoy. Hope that helps!

the valley of amazement by amy tan!! i cannot convey the emotional attachment i have to this book. it takes you through so much and is such a beautiful and heartbreaking generational story of identity, betrayal, love, and endurance. just amazing (for a little more, it basically follows a woman in shanghai in the early 20th century throughout decades, like from when she’s 7 to 40-ish, and all the trials and tribulations of her life, starting with her experience being the daughter of a white woman who owns a first-class courtesan house in shanghai)

You uploaded this on the first day of summer, so this is actually perfect! I was also going to upload my summer tbr today but I didn't finish editing it in time, so... tomorrow! Definitely something by Kate Morton for historical fiction! She's one of my favorite authors; her writing is so exquisitely beautiful and I love the way she intertwines the past and present! Though I haven't read all her books, I think you would specifically like The House At Riverton (one of my favorites) or The Distant Hours (both of which I _have_ read)!! Sarah Waters is great for some Sapphic historical fiction. I've only read Fingersmith but it became one of my favorite books!

My favorite historical fiction is a blend with romance and with dual timelines, but it's The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley. It's such a unique time frame. Like I knew nothing about the Jacobites before reading the book and the follow up (The Firebird). And now I want to re-read it. Again. Lol

As historical fiction I can really recommend the Mercies by Kiran millwood Hargrave! Based in Northern Norway in the seventeenth century, it is about the witch-hunt there. There are also queer characters in the book, and some well written romance!

okay firstly so glad you uploaded a video because I'm healing from surgery and was needed new books to add to my long list lol. I read By The Book as my first summer read and loved it so much! I haven't read a book in so long so it was a quick and fun romance to start the summer off :) I ordered Red, White, & royal blue, she gets the girl, love and other words and every summer after , and very tempted to also get silent patient cuz it seems so interesting :))
