16 LARGEST Skylines in the US and Canada

What are the biggest city skylines in all of in the US and Canada? In this video I rank skylines by their number of skyscrapers to determine which skylines are the largest on the North American continent. Thanks for watching: 16 Largest Skylines in the US and Canada.
Corrections
-I should mention that I overlooked Panama City and Mexico City when making this list. Panama City has 50 skyscrapers so it would be #5 on this list and Mexico City has 26 which would make it #10.
-I should have mentioned that Brooklyn's 12 skyscrapers are officially counted towards NYC's 290 total skyscrapers. I probably shouldn't have included Brooklyn on this list, but fortunately the mistake doesn't change the ranking.
-I also made a mistake when saying that LA was the second largest city on the continent. This was the result of me neglecting to include Mexico (Mexico City) as part of this list.

@@algonquin91 This is a great suggestion and I hope he takes it in. According to the current plans Mississauga’s skyline would have 500+ highrises and at least 30 skyscrapers (likely way more as the plans roll out) by 2040. Mississauga will already have a larger skyline than Dallas or Denver by 2025, and it would be comparable to Philadelphia or Houston if the next phase of construction goes according to plan. As far as Vaughan, it will likely have close to 250 highrises and confirmed to be getting 62 skyscrapers in the VMC area, which would put it amongs one of the tallest skylines in North America, and it would be the largest skyline transformation we’ve seen in a while in North America as Vaughan basically has close to zero highrises rn and it’s all just industrial warehouses and factories at the current construction sites

For the people interested in Toronto, as he mentioned, Toronto is absolutely booming right now. As of October 2021, Toronto has 225 cranes in it's skyline with LA being a way distant second with 51. There are currently two Supertalls under construction in Toronto (300m or higher) , and two bank towers under construction at about 240m. There are 7 more supertalls proposed (a few of them are actually around 299.m but close enough) and 15 proposals that 240m-290m. The amount between 150m and 240m is probably like 100. Atlanta’s skyline is starting to fill in with the dozens of ~100m residential buildings expanding north & south out of midtown. I think by 2030 it will look much more cohesive, but it is interesting to note that clusters of development center around the Red & Gold MARTA rail stations. I think that’s why it’s so spread out, in addition to weird zoning laws

Good question! There are a few different definitions for what constitutes a "skyscraper" but the one that is widely accepted is a habitable building taller than 150m. Using that definition I will look up an updated list of the tallest buildings in a given city and count how many exceed 150m. I did the same google search and it pulled up 39, like you mentioned, but that figure is using a lower threshold of 120 meters, rather than 150. Thanks for the comment! Vancouver does have a massive skyline if you're counting buildings shorter than 150 meters. Considering 150 meters is generally accepted as the height of a skyscraper though, I decided to measure these cities by the number of buildings that exceed that height. Vancouver doesn't have as many buildings >150 meters as the ones in this video.

You need to zoom out on Houston. Houston has SIX separate city centers spread out over an area large enough to easily swallow up the cities of Seattle, San Francisco, Minneapolis, Boston, New York, and Miami. The 38 skyscrapers you attributed to Houston were only in our downtown district. You didn't include the Texas Medical Center, Greenway Plaza, the "Uptown" area (Galleria area), the Westchase (Tech) district, the Energy Corridor, and The Woodlands. In fact, you can easily fit all of NYC inside Houston's inner loop.
@CityGeek
@CityGeek 2 года назад
Wow I'll admit I didn't realize Houston was so huge. The 38 skyscrapers I attributed to Houston is the official number for the skyline, but that's interesting to learn that there are other tall buildings in the larger metro area. Thanks for the comment!
@robertwbingo
@robertwbingo 2 года назад
@@CityGeek LOL! Honest mistake. Houston truly is America's most misunderstood city. The city's square mileage is just under 672 square miles. There are several incorporated areas within the City of Houston, and when you measure our metro area, the population surges to over 6.5 million people. We have the world's largest medical center, which has a skyline of its own that dwarfs those of most other cities. We have the nation's second largest theater district, and all major full-time theater companies; Houston Symphony, Houston Ballet, Houston Grand Opera, and Theater Under the Stars, as well as several independent small theater companies. Physically, it's a massively huge place, and yet, there's so much room. Our museum district covers 17 square blocks with museums all within walking distance of each other. The only way to comprehend the massive size of Houston's skyline is from the air, or front atop one of our "flyover" ramps at our intersecting freeways. Love your videos!
@ahmedzakikhan7639
@ahmedzakikhan7639 2 года назад
Since Texas Medical is part of City of Houston, I am almost certain those buildings were included in the 38 skyscrapers count. This ain't only showing downtown Houston. Toronto's 67 skyscrapers also include buildings in Scarborough and North York (which are part of the city). Same with Brooklyn in New York. Houston ain't the only city buddy.
@robertwbingo
@robertwbingo 2 года назад
@@ahmedzakikhan7639 Do you know, for a fact, that the Medical Center was counted? Of course not. Plus, the Medical Center is three miles from downtown Houston. It is not considered to be a part of downtown.
@californiamade5608
@californiamade5608 2 года назад
@@robertwbingo first of all, you have all of your facts wrong. The tallest building at the medical center in Houston is only 324 feet tall. Which means, no it was not counted in this list because it doesn’t not reach a height of over 492 feet to give it a skyscraper status. At this point it’s considered a high rise. There are a total of 38 skyscrapers in Houston (492 feet and higher) that’s how it’s measured according to the council on tall buildings and urban habitat. Sure Houston has a lot of spread out buildings but so does Los Angeles. It’s not just downtown. There are skyscrapers all across the LA basin. The tallest is the recently completed 600 foot twin towers in century city (neighborhood of LA, not city). Which makes them the tallest towers in California outside of downtown Los Angeles and downtown San Francisco. There are skyscrapers in miracle mile, Hollywood, century city, areas of the airport. It’s also likely that LA will surpass Houston in the next 10 years as they have proposed over 25 skyscrapers. Houston has not experienced a skyscraper boom, and it doesn’t look like it will anytime soon, Houston is large sure, but a majority of that land is prone to flooding during hurricanes, that’s what has kept Houston’s population from booming in the first place. The fastest growing city in Texas is Austin and they even proposed the tallest tower in Texas @ 1,024 feet.

@@houstontexas8738 Actually Toronto's skyline is also spread out - there are many buildings in the suburbs that are part of the city and those that are not.
