Alot of the characters have very ambiguous looks. I can always tell (except for in the case of Truffles, I literally still accidently call her a boy) cause I've always been super into character design. But alot of people have a hard time recognizing slight stylistic changes in male and female anthropomorphic characters which is fair enough

the EXACT same thing happened to me. like i was looking for ruby but got octavian even tho i already had zucker and marina. BUT i did end up getting ruby later so, hopefully our stories will continue to match and you still get ruby soon!

@Berylli if I'm not mistaken, the octopuses are some of the most common villagers to find. basically when you go to an island the game randomises the species of animal first and then the actual villagers. there's 35 species of animals and 3 octopuses, so you have a 1/35 chance of getting an octopus and then a 1/3 chance of getting Octavian. if you were looking for a specific cat for example this would be much much harder because there are 26 different cats, so you would have a 1/35 chance of getting a cat AND THEN a 1/26 chance of getting Tangy. i think personality types also play a roll here but I'm not sure, i think the game might balance out the personality types you already have in your island.

Hit him with a net (dont apologise) and lock him in his house. Only talk to him when he has a thought bubble. If he is the newest villager to move in, he will be the least likely to leave the Island
