Humans create over 2 billion tons of garbage every year. We all have to live with that. Others are doing something about it: They're making vegan leather from rotten mangoes, recycling plastic into bricks, stuffing teddy bears with cigarette butts, and lacing up sneakers made from shopping bags. Felix F, that is more than the garbage that I have in a year. E.g., I avoid buying any beverages: boil water at home, fill a flask, and always in reusable mug/cup. Hence, no water-bottles, no cartons of juice, or cans of anything to throw away after a single use. All the water that I use from the tap in a month is about U.S.$4 to $5. Many people spend more on one drink than what I use for the whole month, including water for cooking, water for showers, and water for laundry.

@FrankieTheOne, Yes! And the good news for the Planet and for all of us is that, if 8 BILLION people each make even a small positive difference each day (e.g., not wasting one grain of rice/food per meal three times a day = tons of food-waste avoided, and more food to feed the hungry in the world), all of those "small differences" add to HUGE BENEFITS. 1% improvement per day = nearly 400% improvement in just a year.

I really like the little detail where the shoes made from plastic bottles and shopping bags is wrapped in a bag(likely made from the plastic bottles turned canvas) that is canvas but looks like a plastic shopping bag. So not only are you getting a recycled pair of shoes but also a recycled canvas bag that spreads the word about the recycled shoes. Really good design all around there.

A truly wonderful RU-vid video, it exposes the every day problems we encounter while trying to dispose of and renew previously unreclaimable byproducts and products in themselves. Personally I loved the high carbon tiles, they are very elegant and sharp in design. Whilst retaining carbon into something that cannot escape into the atmosphere. The cigarettes butts idea was really good that it was reforming something that was of no use and would have taken many years to decompose of. I was impressed by the millennial young people that are putting their mind’s on the way to help reduce the waste into the earth. @@SoHDrxyThe previous generations weren't ignorant. I've read books & articles published around mid century that try to motivate people to take action. Political will has been missing & now is weak. There are many who merely cared about getting "theirs" and to hell with anyone else. There are & have been a lot of deniers who refuse to think. Corporate greed has been & is still a problem. I am glad that younger generations are making a lot of noise & taking action about environmental destruction. It's almost like the only real long term solution is to reduce consumption and reuse what we have. But companies and governments don't want to hear that. If someone's not profiting then well we might have to rethink our economic system.
@cbalan777
@cbalan777 2 года назад
@@SoulDevoured The problem with reusing stuff is sanitation. Sometimes people suggest reusing glass bottles and refilling them, but you never know what people have done with containers. I've seen people put all sorts of nasty stuff in containers. I wouldn't want to be eating or drinking out of a container that had whatever in it a day ago. People will then say, "but you can wash it out". But if I put paint stripper in a glass and then washed it out and filled it up with water would you chug it down?
@SoulDevoured
@SoulDevoured 2 года назад
@@cbalan777 generally when you buy a reusable drinking container it's for your use. And I would assume you'd know what you do with your own container. Reusable containers bought at a shop with the intent for you to use immediately at a fountain or something are sealed.
@cbalan777
@cbalan777 2 года назад
@@SoulDevoured Right, but then you would have to deal with how the reusable container gets refilled and still deal with, "what did the person before me do to this machine". It's like when everyone goes to one of those ice cream dispensers. you touch the same handle everyone else did, and then use that hand to hold the thing you are eating. Kids try to lick the spout, stick their fingers in it. Let's face it. The reason why there are so many single use items is because people are gross.

Whether that plastic is used for road bricks or just sitting in some dump, it's still going to exist. So, wouldn't you rather it be used for something useful, instead of just being an eyesore? It's not like she's producing brand new plastic to make those bricks. She's just taking plastic that would normal go to the dump, and repurposing for something useful and that's sorely needed.

There's a company using them as fuel, to make cement. And the fiberglas residues can be used in concrete, with that same cement . It's somewhere in the RU-vid black hole, lol.

I have a hard time believing the money spent paying salaries for those people scaring birds away from toxic water couldnt be instead spent on a permanent solution. Build a roof over the mine or simply FILL IT IN!

Millions of dollars spent just to keep the birds out of that lake all these things they use when my idea would have been a woman done thing. And that idea is underwater subwoofers. Placed in strategic places to where the whole lake vibrates absolutely no birds would want to land on that thing. Bam problem solved.

For the wind turbines, why not seperate the wood from the plastics and then you could make paper with it, and use the plastics to make things like pool linings or plastic outdoor furniture?

@@snakeeater7002 hopefully not for too much longer. There's some cool new startups that are coming up with new types of plastics. One in Berlin called made of air. They make a new type of carbon plastic. It's made with rotting wood and carbon captured from the air. They did a whole dealshio for BMW or Audi (can't remember which). Looks really cool though.

No one talks about the underlying problem: overpopulation combined with mindless consumption. We're trying to be able to maintain our ridiculous lifestyles, indeed increase our individual footprints, rather than actually address the bloated demands we make on this extremely tiny globe.

Millions of dollats used to scare birds... why so much? simply WHY?! what a perfect example of a huge waste of resources. absolutely insane amount of oversight and spending. if they really need those tools, there were much better options. why not float some shade balls on the water? or simply not buying the MOST expensive firearms and drones and optics. anything is better than is massive waste. none of what they're doing is making a positive impact. they're just doing disaster control and spending tons to do a shitty job at it.

This is just worse... Get your mind straight and understand that it's all about money! Huge companys like those who sell ciggarettes dont give a f#%k about people dying. And neither do the people who pay to smoke, ( you only live once ) at it's finest. Large companys is ruling this world, and if we want them to stop killing people, why havent all countries abandonned shit like cigarettes for example....... because of MONEY. Please get this in your head.

In the course of collecting deposit containers I also take PET containers such as cake containers, fruit packaging, berry punnets, and fast food cups. I make sure that the cups are specifically PET. I look for the number by holding it up to light. There is all this printed jibberish on the bottom of these plastic cups, but if I categorically see the [ 1 ], then its take it. I cut it up or scrunch it and insert into container deposit PET bottles. I am not mixing materials. If its PET then its PET - period. Then its off to the container deposit facility with it.
