I love how your not the usual RU-vid builder that provides entertainment instead of what you show as simple instruction and let the workflow as it naturally would. No smart comments and it's also refreshing that you realize your audience may know a thing or two about building. I wouldn't imagine novices watching videos of this sort but DIY'ers and tradesmen looking for any new methods of construction and may be useful new tools and techniques. Thank you.
Every time I watch your videos Ken, I can't help but think of how much fun it would be to be apart of your crew and build workshops and various buildings such as this one! The thought comes to mind quite often to leave my career as a licensed Master Electrician and learn how to do framing. Monetarily it would be hard to 'start over' in another trade, but I think that the enjoyment and education I would gain would be the compensation. Thanks for bringing us along!
I enjoyed this. It turned out good. My daughter used to come with me too … to the job site. Then she grew up… I wish I could’ve bottle up that time with her.
I like the fact you built your own trusses, makes sense on a 16' building. You guys are all very well organized and an efficient building machine. If I were to be critical, I would of installed four cripples on each end trusses to better carry the osb. Enjoy your vids a breath of fresh air on the youtube. Wishing you and your crew a happy New Year.
Really enjoy your videos Ken.... Its always enjoyable watching pros at their trade doing their thing..... Merry Christmas to you and your crew and your families.....
I’m a carpenter working in Canada. I think that’s a steel of a deal! Well done. There’s always different ways to do things, so no point in debating technique. All the work they do seems to be done right. And I think that’s a great price for the good quality and efficient work.
nice shop. in 5 years u wish u went larger u watch. lol. my shop keeps me from going off the deep end. running a lathe is very therapeutic. thank u for sharing sir
Thanks for sharing the price, that's always helpful. The Shop Nation fella is building a shed, a nice shed, but I bet he'll have $25k in it after it's said and done.
This is just what I will need when I move this spring. I wish I lived closer to you Ken, I would love to have you build it for me. Love your channel, and I am glad I met you through Al and Gina Lumnah's channel.
I’ll be watching this again. I’m building the same structure and I’ll be able to do it in the same amount of days …. We’ll I mean I have to add a zero after the number of day so 40 days sound about right. Keep them coming. You got a great crew.
Your attention to detail is very good 👌 for example, the vinyl siding on the long wall. You made sure the vinyl siding is overlapping towards the back so when looking at it the sidewall from the front, looks like one whole piece of vinyl siding because you can't see the overlap from the front! A lot of builders don't care about that but you do. Great job 👍
It was great to see Lauren help you with the concrete pour. Dan is amazing at moving everything. It's really going up fast! I'm happy to see that they put windows on the backside so they can enjoy the view. I'm not sure I've seen Josh before. Beautiful little building! Thanks for this Ken. Merry Christmas!
That is an awesome job, Ken :) Well done! I'd like to build something like this. Just trying to help a single mom who lost her house in a fire almost 2 months ago. A small room of the size of your workshop might be useful for her in the meantime, while she gets back on her feet. She's been sleeping in a tent on her property. Go figure. Perhaps I can also start a gofundme to make this possible. Thanks for the video and keep up the good work sir. Cheers -George
Hey Ken, Thx for the recap. BTW, as far as your new weight loss program, it should include a provision for stimulating the elimination process. Many folk do not "go" as often as they should. But the rule of thumb for a healthy digestive tract is "One in-one out!" We use herbal teas which can help with this. Many are available at your local stores, and online. Of course lots of veg and fruits are recommended. We curmudgeons often must eat more produce to make up for what we didn't get while younger!
Thanks for making all of these videos Ken! You’ve given me inspiration to tackle my own garage. Along with the essential craftsman’s channel. Have a merry Christmas!
Im so happy I found your channel, My grandpa and dad were home builders for many years when i was a younger kid now I'm 30 trying to learn all the tricks, I've built a few garages and helped out build some with all of what goes with it. Your really calm, cool and collective it is sweet to learn from,,,I defiantly have worked with my fair share of hot heads haha, mostly been doing floorcovering for 12 years now getting into more involved building to diversify, cause I'm getting bored on just floors. showing the cost is honest as it gets I like your way of doing things.
Interesting, I was wondering where you were it's a small world i grow up right there @ the 3 village's in Canada. Thanks for sharing I enjoyed this video & actually worked for Butterfields making drills & tap's.& cutting gears. Great video & you & the boy's do great work.
Nice job on the workshop! I had a 20 x 20 built by Tuff shed for a total cost of $15,000. It's all preconstructed at their local factory. It's in Florida near the coast so they had to install hurricane straps and Simpson wall anchors. The walls had to be pressure treated according to code. But it was still affordable and they had it up in one day. I don't know how I ever lived without the workshop. It's a must have for any craftsman.
I don't know exactly what the prices are for wood products in the USA, but wood is very expensive in my country Greece we build the same system but we use square metal tubes, from the outside with cement plates [caution no plasterboard] cement sheets are very strong and do not break easily then if someone wants to dress up from the inside with plasterboard then the problem is that the wood rots very quickly, the wooden panels warp and after a while they dissolve wood collects odd numbers, rats, termites, and above all it is susceptible to storms, metal garage if well welded and well assembled had nothing to fear, but of course the important thing is the price in the USA, which is cheaper Happy New Year 2023
I notice you leave the gap in the osb at the top of the walls. I imagine that's because hot air rises and creats better wall cavity ventilation. When I framed houses many years ago, we would have the gap in the middle of the wall between the sheets, which seems stronger to me as it's tied into the top plate.
I really like how you pre build your garage packages in your shop then trailer everything to the site you are very efficient and I bet you can control your costs better I just subscribed I am a carpenter in northern Minnesota and I’m still learning better ways to do things every day. Thanks
Nice job. I think I would of stubbed some conduit through the concrete for some electric. But maybe that’s not code where your at. 🤔 nonetheless.. beautiful area. All you need is a lake and boat and your in heaven 😅
