Final Fantasy 14 Reminds Me Of When I First Tried WoW because of the quaint little towns at the beginning of both games. The warm sense of Goldshire when first created my Human Warrior back in 2006. The music of the human starting area and the screeches of the kobolds. Final Fantasy 14 gave me a similar vibe with the music, lush forests, and the quaint little town. The NPCs were very well made, and the graphics compared to some of today's popular RPG titles. FF14 reminds me more of an RPG than an MMORPG, and so far is delivering on all fronts as a great game I want to return to.

I've played WoW since 2006, 2 months before The Burning Crusade came out. In this video, you will find some clips of me trying out FF14 and the vibe FFXIV gave me after a few of my live streams.
I'm considering making this a playthrough series as I did when I tried out Guild Wars 2 last year.

I think my favorite part of FFXIV is that the previous content does not become obsolete leaving both new and veteran players with huge amounts of content to play since the old content is always just as relevant as the new content.

My fav part about FF14 is how you can just play at your own pace and play other games at the same time no pressure to rush and no pressure to play everyday for months to keep up with anything

the combat will start feeling faster once you know the difference between abilities that are on the GCD and off the GCD (OGCD). pay attention to which abilities are and are not affected by the gcd. the ones that aren't can be "weaved" while the gcd ticks. for instance, you can use bloodletter between two heavy shots. you'll get more as time goes on and it'll really speed things up, especially if youre used to wow combat

@@player554 I don't think that's a fair statement. Depending on class the combat can start to feel much faster as soon as level 30, which, now a days is no time at all.

I started this game 2020, and have taken 2 breaks from it to play other games I really wanted to clear. Came back and kept going because I didn't miss out on necessary grinding. Crazy that there's an mmo that respects your time.

Hope you'll enjoy this game as much as many of us fans. And yeah, it is closer in writing to single player RPGs and some updates will turn it into, pretty much online-connected single-player JRPG. It has dungeons, bossfights and raids and all that. Which is impressive, in my opinion, since I personally come from much older generation of MMOs where none of this was the case.

Another great feature is your character can unlock all classes/jobs on one character. No need for separate alts. The writing, voice acting and character development only improves as you go thru the expansions. I loved it! Hope you will too!

Welcome to Eorzea, friend! I, too started not too long ago, last year August. And this is my first MMO too. Playing through all the content really makes me feel like I'm part of the FFXIV community as if it's like I've been playing it since launch.

At level 30 archer becomes bard, and bards can play music in town as you've seen. :D

Welcome to FFXIV, I hope you enjoy your stay. :) I'm sure your chat has given you the lowdown, but to me the best advice to give new players is to allow yourself to be distracted. With how you can change jobs (classes/professions) with the click of a button, experiment without guilt and pursue what you enjoy. (I had a friend who leveled Miner to 60 and only progressed the story because she needed the next zones for her mining quests!) The community is just as kind as the memes say so don't be afraid to let your party know it's your first time tanking, or to ask about a boss' mechanic, or call out a hit if there is an angry boss blocking your way haha! We'll help until you're sick of us. FFXIV is as much about the journey as the destination (if not more!), and I hope that you enjoy your journey. :D

I forget when it unlocks but do yourself a favor and do the Hall of Novice. You get a set of gear and it gives you a ring that gives you 30% exp. The npc will be in the adventures guild and the npc will have a giant sprout icon over their head.

You unlock it at lvl 15. And yes it is some kind of class tutorial. And the armor you get easily carries you for 15 to 20 lvls. Only dungeon gear might be slightly better at that point.

Welcome to the fold. One thing I can offer in the way of advice is to say to put off the idea of voiced conversations. Too many WoW vets come over and complain that they have to read so much throughout the game. You absolutely have to realize something. WoW's budget is not only bigger, but allocated very differently. Voice recording is expensive, and Square Enix feels that money is better spent elsewhere. Like on gorgeous environments. Case and point, there is a MASSIVE graphical overhaul coming to the lighting in the entire game in the next expansion.

@@GeeganGaming Any time. Also, it's good to see you're on Primal DC. I'm on Hyperion, so I can jump over and pocket heal you through some of the brutal DPS queues. Heal queue is basically instant.

the further in you get the more voiced cutscenes you get but they were really hurting for money during the initial release

@@thanganbabp5570 Yeah they were hurting for money during 2.0 A Realm Reborn cause of the dumpster fire that was 1.0 its extremely impressive how much Yoshi P saved the game by destroying everything and making it part of the lore, theirs a whole NoClip Documentary about FF14 1.0 and many other Documentaries on 1.0

Now FFXIV has a massive budget being allocated to it because of it's success. So I expect more VA in the next expansion.

"I guess I have a long way to go" --- Aww, my sweet summerchild XD Take your time and enjoy the journey. This game doesnt run way from you, and old content is always frequented by newbs and veterans alike. Unlike WoW, you dont need to rush to max level: the game actually really starts at lvl 1.

WoW guy here since closed beta 2003! Trust me, the game gets boonkers later on! Its fucking amazing! Doing the new ultimate atm and I have never.. NEVER got so destroyed as i'm getting now! 😅 Good luck on the journey, I peak into the stream to see how you doing.

btw in end game GCD is not that important when you will have many skills that are not on the GCD (depending on jobclass of course)

most likely you are aware of it allready but i say it again: the newer the contend is the more voiced cutscenes will be played (at least in the main quest line)
