Yeah, I owned an RB67 for a short time... that weight is why I got rid of it. Even with the hand grip it was not really hand hold-able. Nearly unusable when off of a tripod. And I'm not a small guy.

I had a feeling this location looked familiar. If I'm not mistaken this place is used by Milsim West for some of their events. Some of the buildings and walls looked familiar and security guy was pretty much the key for me. Milsim West is a pretty hardcore airsoft event, as part of the rules I think you are allowed to use blanks (fired out of real guns) in addition to airsoft guns and once the match begins there are no breaks in the action until the event ends usually 2-3 days.

The photos of Caleb remind me a lot of the work of painter Casper David Friedrich. The one at 18:09 to me reminds of the way he would paint large landcapes with one person in it that you can hardly see almost hidden in the frame. I reccommend checking out that work. Very cool video.

Jason, this might get buried in the comments, but check out Stephen Wilkes' large format work from Ellis Island if you haven't seen it. Great abandoned building documentation. If I recall correctly, he spent an entire year going back there at all seasons, and just used natural light. Really nice work, very painterly. In person the prints are enormous and super compelling. The coffee table book is a real gem.

The so-called trick to loading a petal spool leica quickly is to place the film leader just like shown on the diagram on the bottom of the camera and only begin winding the film once the bottom plate as been attached. The steering wheel thing on the bottom plate will push the film leader into the spring in the middle of the petals and not let it slip. As opposed to winding it when the bottom plate is off, that will cause the film to slip nearly every time. If you don't believe, consult an instruction manual for any modern film leica. You have to trust the camera.

Hey Jason, the technique of shooting the space and not necessarily a subject is something that I have also thought about and used. but I've used it when photographing regular boring houses and interiors like that, specifically ones that are staged in a "lifestyle" kind of feel. No people in the shots I'm taking either. But I really appreciate you mentioning that. I might have to start posting to RU-vid again 🥺 you inspire me.
@orestes1984
@orestes1984 Год назад
Using an ultra wide lens requires a different technique. I started out primarily as a landscape photographer, you have to become someone that is observant of the rules like Wally Pfister, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg, and my photography god Akira Kurasowa. Become aware of framing including the use of layers, rules of thirds, leading lines, Fibonacci theory, and just the simple fact per AK, sometimes more is actually more, and less is drab, boring, and displeasing. I approach a wide angle lens like a 17 as if I'm telling the story of an establishing scene in a movie, and with street photography, I've realised this is the key, but it's not the easiest craft in the world, because you have to see using your full vision, and frame everything in the scene to tell the narrative. AK would be proud of the opening scene of The Dark Knight, it tells the story that every man when pushed far enough can be The Joker, and that The Joker is just a mask. Notice the busyness and the layers of people walking through the street which is a classic AK technique also for the use of expansive scenes. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xLcHPsWK5xg.html It's plagarised as fuck but you get the point.... Unfortunately AK was so much of a grand master that most of his work will be repeated by other masters. It sets the point though, every man is a Joker when they've been pushed too far. It established the premise of every comic book movie after its release. It wasn't just a good super hero movie, it told the story of how super heroes and villains are amongst us all. I dunno, it's the Yin and the Yang of life maybe... We can't use a follow focus obviously, but what we can explore is the elements that make a good scene, and how each shot and therefore each frame is a scene in itself.
