Forcing yourself is just going through the motions. Sure, some stuff may stick but it's twice as long for half the results. Forcing yourself and discipline are two different things. If honest desire to accomplish something is your motivation, that won't come and go, and paired with discipline will usually provide great results.

Just a small distinction I'd like to point out about some of these words: a lot of them depend on context. For example, it was stated that cold = tsumetai but that's more for the temperature of an object like someone's hands or a bottle of water. Cold can also be: samui which is more related to the temperature in the atmosphere. For beginners who are trying to commit these words to memory, these subtle distinctions can be very confusing.

1:27:13 Here's a pun: "I am the 挑戦 one" And it's funny as well how someone who is chosen is often chosen because they are challenged with something only they can take on. Also 挑戦 was chousenn/ちょうせん when writing it with the MOZC tool, which is confusing because the o with a bar on top looks like it might be choosenn/ちょおせん.

@@geraldfank9294 well it's been a while since I watched the video, and I stopped halfway, but like I said in other comments, it wasn't always clear if they were talking about the noun or verb in advance, which can be annoying if you use the video as a way of practice, and the transcription wasn't always correct either. A big mistake I noticed for example would be that 用意する does not mean to cook, it means to prepare something, anything, so yeah you can say 夕食を用意する to prepare dinner, but 用意する on its own does not mean to cook, since you could also say お客に部屋を用意する for example meaning to prepare a room for a guest.

I came to the conclusion that you should learn words in blocks. For example, school related words, and then, house related words, and so on. At least, I think it is a more efficient way.

Many of these words NEED context. For instance Tsumetai doesn't mean cold the way it does in English. It usually refers to something specific being cold like a drink or your hands. So you couldn't say it's "Tsumetai" outside, you would need to use "Samui". The usage of many Japanese words is different from English. Basically a lot of words that are one word in English have multiple words in Japanese.

A lot of the English words are homophones, so without context, how do I know if they are taking about (for example) patient as in a person in a hospital or to wait for something. They are spelled the same way. But I'm sure the Japanese words for these are not the same.

This isn't so much a comment to the producer as they are using common translations, but I personally think "bakery" is poorly translated. "pan" is the Japanese word for bread. "pan-ya" is "bread shop". The generic term "bakery" is wrong because a bakery while baking bread, could also bake other things that aren't bread, like cake, and cookies. In Japan it is rare a "pan-ya" will offer cake and cookies (though I have seen prepackaged cookies a couple times. Cakes are bought from cake shops, and fresh cookies from cookie shops (what few I have found here).
