Every week I receive a bunch of these old locks from viewers, in trades, etc. Don't give up on these old things, instead use them to expand your lock picking skills into a new area. These old locks can be quite challenging and a good bit of fun to figure out.

Bill, if you have too many of these lever locks, how about doing a giveaway including some wire picks to go with them.

Ha! Thanks. It took me about 5 sec to open an old metal box with a piece of bent coat hanger and this technique. Now that I can see the simple mechanism I'm gonna try to build a key and this sturdy box can have a second life.

Would love to see a LockLab video on how to impression keys for these! I always see keyless old lever locks for sale at flea markets. Making working keys for them would be an interesting project. Excellent video as always, Bill!

John Larson ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lFfLEAlpXjU.html This is how the professionals do it. You can DIY without buying the kit with a little ingenuity because IMHO $149.99 is a lot to pay for a Chubb(or whatever)depth cut spec sheet and a couple blanks.and don’t forget the Play-Doh
@CheapskateProjects
@CheapskateProjects Год назад
Old comment, but I will reply anyhow. It's usually pretty simple to make keys for these. First you have to pick them open though. Then you can usually see the levers and can measure their thickness. Key blank size can be measures from key hole. Buy or make matching blank. Insert blank and rotate it while looking at the levers. You can then see which lever does not lift enough so file down every other lever section of the key. After some tens of itetations you will have a working key. I actually have a nice antique safe which didn't come with keys to its safety deposit boxes. So I had to pick few of them (unfortunately no treasures) and make key to each 5 of them.

3:28 that lock, if you drill the curtain out, the lock opens. It's less about security, it's more about internal "who gets the key" tracking.

Bill is a sign of the times, my son started playing NES games and asked how did you beat these games they way too hard and just like you I said no it’s not.
@godminnette2
@godminnette2 4 года назад
Difference in game design. Back then, a core question was stretching out a thirty minute game to last months, a sort of extension of the arcade mindset meant to suck down quarters. They are usually hard in the dumbest ways imaginable to pad out the game with cheap tricks. Few NES games hold up as a result.

These are easy, but kind of fun. I keep my eyes open at yard sales and second hand shops for these or tumbler/wafer locks. It is crazy how many good locks you can get for a buck each, that can provide you with hours of entertainment.

I suspect they don't have keys because the original owner lost them, and whoever sent them to you probably got them without keys from yard sales or eBay or something. I just bought a lot of 8 old locks without keys, I suspect they lost the keys and had them in a junk drawer for a while

I have an old Railway Express Agency Lock with no key. Picking it is great, but how do I create a Key for it? I found an Adlake key blank that fits, so I have a place to start. How about a video on fitting a key to these old lever locks from a blank.

Isn't there a way to bring those locks back but add a little extra to it so it can't be picked so easily I'm not saying it can't be picked just a little more challenged because I love the old school locks and would like to bring them back not sure which one is stronger full like the old ones are more durable although they're too easy to pick is what I'm hearing

Got to keep Bill's videos alive with current comments. He has so many that are teaching level. I like old locks but the one that stumped be was a Miller pancake lock with a keyhole I've never seen before. Thanks to RU-vid i found how to make a key.
@JamesBuchanan-so5jq
@JamesBuchanan-so5jq 9 месяцев назад
I’ve had great success opening those pancake locks that don’t have keys. I’ve opened more than 2 dozen of them.. It’s a home made pick using 6 galvanized staples set between either 2 pieces of wood or two 1-1/2 in x 4 in metal plates with butterfly tighteners on each end. If you would like a picture I can send one. You tighten down the butterfly screws until the staples are difficult to move. You then move the entire pick set in and out of the locks several times. As you do this, each staple will start to move until the entire staples are in the exact position and pops open the lock. With this method, you’re left with a pick set that has the exact key cut you need to make a duplicate key. I also do custom lock cut aways. From very old vintage locks to high security locks. The Boley, 6 pin medicos and assa V10 just to name a few.

Hi interesting video thanks I was wondering if you could help me my daughter has an old fabric trunk that she use to use for boarding school it has a lock on the front with the MW lock we have the original keys for it but for some reason this season it has decided not to open! How would you suggest the best way to open it with out breaking the lock ? Please any ideas would be greatly received from uk .thanks
@bosnianbill
@bosnianbill 3 года назад
About your only option is to spray some graphite lubricant (not oil-based, it will stain the fabric) into the lock and hope it loosens up the mechanism. Alternately, maybe you could push out the hinge pin on the hasp. Other than that, I'm out of ideas.

I was wondering what tools these 'wires' are that you're using? and where can I find them? I checked the links you have in your description but I just got very overwhelmed and didnt see those exactly. Thank you so much for your time!
