Hey there my friends how are you all doing this fine Friday? In today's video you'll see i got extremely lucky as this 74KG motor i found was thrown in the wrong scrap bin. This motor looks to be brand new but as the site i got it from has deemed it obsolete i was allowed to take it home but only under the condition i melt it down for my shelves and not take it to the scrap yard.n This was a huge job stripping melting and editing this time so the watch time runs a little bit longer than normal but thats what people are asking for. So sit back turn your brain off and check out today's monster motor meltdown
Like I normally say if you like the rings shown and used in this video be sure to check out the description where you can get 20% off the already discounted rings using my code and if you want to try your hand at melting yourself you can buy the burner on its own or the whole furnace set up and I can organise a 5% link for you of the total furnace price just email me on the link in the description😁👍🏻.

HOW TO MIRROR FINISH A BAR
I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it??????.
****************************************************
STEEL FOR MY FRIEND
I keep all my steel and cast iron pieces and I give them to my friend and once he gets about a tonne from me and his own collecting he takes that to the scrapyard and sells it then he buys some beer and comes over to my house and we make a night of it.
No My friend doesn’t have a RU-vid channel he just scraps metal in his spare time.

Yes Mark I completely understand what you’re saying buddy but this motor and hundreds like it Are destined for the scrapyard from this local site that I live near , as my friend is the boss there they have stated numerous times productivity is more important than what they can get in scrap value or to re-purpose or re-sell the scrap or in this case new motors that they have in their scrap bins and as this motor was deemed as obsolete it will never be used again on that site. So the boss has given me free reign on the scrap bins as long as I don’t abuse the privilege and as long as what I take offsite he sees in a future video where I melt down and that’s on the condition I don’t run to the scrapyard or sell it as is for a quick buck. It’s an absolute shame some of the things I do meltdown but that’s part of the condition that I’m allowed to take them home with me is that that’s what I do with them whether it be an old motor new motor old light fixtures or brand-new padlocks etc

I make a lot of things, and try and use as much found/reclaimed materials as possible. There is just SO much useful stuff out there in this throw away society. No worries at all buddy I released a new video every Friday and one will be coming out in about an eight hours where I do another motor but this one is pretty old and a cute little fella if I must say. I just found Half an hour ago 8 huge aluminium lights with massive heat shields on the back and I’m allowed to take everyone of them if I can fit them all in my car so that should give me a massive pile of aluminium ingots once I figure out how to cut it down and melt them👌🏻. that will obviously be in a future video.

For the record guys I have access to a scrap bin on a site close to my house unfortunately this site does not care about recycling or re-using these brand-new motors they’re classed as obsolete and won’t be used again on that site , even though they could be sold for several thousands of dollars they choose to chuck them in the scrap bin and get scrap value for it , I’m allowed to take these home under the condition I melt it down so they can watch the video and I’m not allowed to take it to the scrapyard for a cheap few dollars or try to fix or sell it as is. it’s an absolute shame how much this company doesn’t care about the things they throw in the scrap bin but at the end of the day they’re all about the productivity and not what they can earn on the side from these motors. And yes this one was new all it had was a crushed fan cover which could’ve been fixed with a hammer and about five minutes of work.

For all of the people that said it looks N E W !!! You guys are C O R R E C T.... The conduit box had NEVER been opened, it is a OEM special gear motor. w/D flange and Three Phase. Very common in the Motor Drive Business. The 7.4 KW equivalent to a 10 HP American Standard. New value, because it's paired with a gearbox $1,500.00 to $2,200.00? Scrap Yard value .13 cents a pound, so about $21.00. However the way this gentleman did it, he might get $2.15 - lb for the copper, times 18 - lbs $38.70 then and $0.68 for aluminum, would be around 15- lbs $10.20. The steel is $0.05 per pound, the rotor and stator laminations is where the weight is. about 120 pounds so $6.00 for a total of $54.90. Hope it was fun, because it wasn't worth the hassle. Also even as a USED motor, it would have fetched $350.00 today. I have some knowledge, after owning an Electric Motor Repair shop for nearly 40 - yrs. LOL. Still it was a fun video.

I work on electric motors for a living. How we strip the copper to rewind them is chop one end like you did then burn them out in our big oven or with a torch to melt the varnish and insulation then the copper windings will strip easily out of the laminations/stator. If you don’t have a burn oven you can use a torch to heat the entire stator( it’ll take a bit of time but be easier than the way you did it for sure) once the varnish is melted through the laminations, it’ll strip easy. Hope this helps next time 🇨🇦

big industrial plants throw out all kinds of stuff, new old broken or not. most people would be astounded as to what gets thrown away or scrapped every day because some one deems it obsolete. looked like a brand new motor to me, the wires didn't seem to have been connected. now while I get that your all about playing with your foundry, and that's cool, I like to melt some scrap from time to time to do some casting with. I've got to throw this out there in case you happen to run across another one of those or something similar. That motor while missing the gear box that should have been around that helical gear (presumably in another bin there at your scrap yard was about a $4,500.00 motor. you could have posted that motor for sale on any resale market place, presumably you have Facebook marketplace or Craigslist down under, and bought a whole truck load of scrap that would have been a lot easier to melt down and had enough money left over to fill your propane tanks and probably made someone elses day getting a great deal on a motor.

Yes I completely understand what you’re saying but this motor and hundreds like it Are destined for the scrapyard from this local site that I live near , as my friend is the boss there they have stated numerous times productivity is more important than what they can get in scrap value or to re-purpose or re-sell the scrap or in this case new motors that they have in their scrap bins , this motor was deemed as obsolete it will never be used again on that site. I believe this motor was brand-new all it had was a crushed fan cover that could’ve easily been fixed with five minutes and a hammer, The boss has given me free reign on the scrap bins as long as I don’t abuse the privilege and as long as what I take offsite he sees in a future video where I melt down and that’s on the condition I don’t run to the scrapyard or sell it or fix it for a quick buck. It’s an absolute shame some of the things I do meltdown but that’s part of the condition that I’m allowed to take them home with me is that that’s what I do with them whether it be an old motor new motor old light fixtures or brand-new padlocks etc.

@@bigstackD I find your friends business practice somewhat dubious. my boss wont even throw away used 70's / 80's induction motors. if the storage space exists its worth saving for many years because eventually someone will need it. That said, great video. smelting is oddly enjoyable.

I'd be curious to see what your blood readings are for aluminum, and etc. That respirator is only good while you're wearing it, and any space you cut that aluminum up inside of, as your workshop, is going to be heavily contaminated with aluminum nano-particulates. In the future we will probably treat aluminum like lead. I dream of having a large vacuum table with carbon filtration that I can do all of my cutting and welding on.

If you're going to store it for a rainy day, this is one option, but from a business standpoint, you have to compare what it's worth as is, to what cast bars are worth, minus the cost of fuel, time, and labor. It probably makes more sense to sell it as is, and use the money to buy some shiny new silver eagles.
