I'm a BookTube junkie, but how is it even possible that you produce one fantastic video after another? Okay, you can't do much wrong with a Booker prediction video (because I'm also a Booker junkie), but you have been on this streak for months now. Thanks so much for putting so much effort into producing your content!

Ooh, thanks for doing this job. I got overwhelmed just trying to think about figuring out which books are eligible. Between you and Bob the Bookerer I am getting quite excited for Booker season now. (Although I hope they make the announcement very late in the month, because July just seems too early for it.)

Watched this great video over two days, took extensive notes and counted 160 books, which I'm assuming was intentional to see if we were paying attention🤣 I've read 24 on the list and hope to see either Martyr! or James as the winner.

There are 24 on the list that I’ve read/ are on my TBR/ currently reading. I’ve read Night Swimmers by Roisin Maguire ( a very good debut) I’m currently reading Henry Henry . It’s quite disturbing content and should perhaps have a trigger warning. The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store was excellent.❤ I’ve started Martyr! on audio. Really engaging. Lots of books I want to read Long Island Clear Wandering Stars Pity I’ve started Wellness too on audio. I can see it being made into a film. I started The In-Between last night. It’s about finding love in your fifties after having your heart broken. Greta & Valdin is one of the best books I’ve read this year. I want to read Ann Napolitano’s new book . So many enticing books! I am having a stern talk with myself to not run out and buy the 138 of that list that I haven't read. I am reading Praiseworthy at the moment, and it will probably take me to mid July to finish it anyway. Roll on Booker season!!! *It's the most wonderful time of the year*

Massive comment incoming. Never read any of these previous winner’s books. I’m kind of glad The Wren, The Wren isn’t eligible. Excited about James which I have a copy of. Obioma’s book looks really good and is something I’ll likely read when it releases. I just got a copy of The Spoiled Heart from the library and am looking forward to it. I will be so mad if Elizabeth Strout is on there. I find her books kind of boring I just got an audio-ARC of Cusk’s new book, so it’ll be my first time trying her out. I think Come & Get It is unlikely. I’ve not heard a good review of it yet. Sally Rooney wouldn’t surprise me but I do think she might be the most overhyped author in the world. I’ve recently read Blackouts and thought the formatting was very interesting, but it was just okay for me. I wouldn’t be surprised if it gets heavy praise though because the structure is creative. I loved The Heaven and Earth Grocery Store. I think it was much better than Deacon King Kong and absolutely in my top books so far of the year. Ward is a fantastic author and I would love to see her get nominated. IMO Let Us Descend is good, but maybe her least approachable book. I saw a lot of people reviewing this one as mid. I personally thought it was better than that, but it depends on the stance of magical realism. I’ve just read Queen of Dirt Island by Donal Ryan which I absolutely loved. I’ll have to look for Heart, Be At Peace. Martyr! Is everywhere atm. I would expect to see it on the list. Wandering Stars is a follow up to There, There, so it might fall into that trap or not being as great an experience if you haven’t read the prior book. I would love to see an Indigenous author on the list though. I have an Audio-ARC of Whale Fall and should be getting to it shortly. Wellness is another book I have on my shelf, but have been waiting on due to the size of it. Never heard of This Strange Eventful History, but I love Yiyun Li’s writing, so her endorsement alone makes me want to pick this one up. I have an ARC of Parasol Against The Axe. I’ve read the first couple of chapters and it’s good so far. I really like Oyeyemi’s writing. No one is talking about The Morningside because frankly it’s really bad. I read it a month ago expecting to love it. It’s about fleeing genocide, so I thought it would be right up my alley. Instead, it was this very bizarre hodgepodge of thriller, satire, and historical fiction with a sprinkle of magical realism. It was so unfocused and lost any chance at poignancy for going off in 57 different directions. Had it been more restrained, it could’ve been a fantastic book. I’ve heard a lot of reviews of The Future as just so-so. My mom read it and said it wasn’t as good as The Power. I wouldn’t be surprised to see River East, River West on the list. It wasn’t my favorite women’s prize book, but the bookers seem to like books with this kind of style sometimes. I will scream if they pick Restless Dolly Maunder. It’s an interesting enough subject, but I’m still baffled by its presence on the women’s prize shortlist. A Trace of Sun was really good and I wouldn’t mind seeing it on the Booker. I also have an audio-ARC of Orbital that I need to catch up on. Land of Milk and Honey was possibly my most disappointing read of this year. As a chef and an avid mountaineer, I thought this would be a book I loved so deeply. Instead, it was this extremely dull book that had flickers of good critique only to fumble the delivery. The Storm We Made was so good! I don’t think it’s a Booker book, but I would be happy to see it be the “shit-stirrer”. Mercury is okay. It’s very slow and character focused, but I don’t see it being on the literary level of many of the other books you’ve mentioned. I think the seeing it a lot is the result of good marketing, not an extraordinary book. Xóchitl must be a hard name to figure out if you aren’t around Spanish speakers, especially from Mexico. It’s pronounced like So-cheel. I really like Gonzalez’s writing and wouldn’t mind seeing her get a nod although I can’t speak to this book since I haven’t read it yet despite owning a copy. Piglet and The Glutton both seem like books I could see being long listed. The Bullet Swallower was a fun read, but I can’t see it being on The Booker list. It’s not prose-y, not super abstract or experimental, and I think the ending is a bit too sweet/neat and tidy for it. Still an enjoyable read. The comparison to Cormac McCarthy and Gabriel Garcia Marquez are both way off. Having read both, she does not strike me as similar to either….at least not in this book. I’m super excited for Julia Armfield’s book. I loved her last one. All 12 of your Aussie books make me realize how little Australian literature I get exposed to outside of your channel. I just saw a review of Hagstone on MercysBookishMusings and it was my first time hearing about that one. Sounds like something I might enjoy. Honestly, I really hope this doesn’t turn into an all Irish list. I’m kind of bored with the moody, reflective, prose-heavy writing style that seems to be so popular with Irish literature atm. Absolution by Alice McDermott was just okay for me. Very thoughtful subject matter and decent writing, but I thought it could’ve delved much deeper.

I have disagree - it's not surprising that Joyce Carol Oates has never been nominated. She's a hack. Her prose, to me, is so unsophisticated, obtuse even. She is guilty of overusing the exclamation point, among other unforgivable offenses. I quit Butcher before I finished the first page. I had a similar response to the only other book of hers I ever tried, We Were the Mulvaneys. I'm only going to venture two guesses, and these are completely arbitrary because I haven't yet read them but they sound promising: Because I think Australians get short shrift in the Booker, and because of its awesome cover I'm going to suggest *The Great Undoing by Sharlene Allsopp.* Also - because the author is a woman and Caribbean and the book sounds so good: *Passiontide by Monique Roffey.* Nobody does BookTube like you, my friend. We're all so grateful for you.
