Note: I was wrong when describing the Tangy Pack video signal. It is not using the composite output. Instead, it is using the digital video signals available on the Apple IIc's video port to generate the image. (Specifically, the following 6 digital signals: 14M clock, CSYNC, WNDW, GR, SEROUT and CREF).

Thanks for reviewing this Chris! Just a quick clarification, the Tangy Pack uses the digital video signals available on the Apple IIc video port to generate the image, not the composite analog signal.

Yep, that was my mistake, sorry Rob! I added the details to the video description above.

Hi Rob - Great product and great news for the //c. Do you have a solution that is compatible with the unique pinout of the Laser 128 port? I don't think you can use the digital outputs that the //c offers, but the Laser 128 has RGB outputs that take up some of the pins you utilize on the TangyPak.

Agree, i would love to know where I can get a Tangy - the repository is nice, but the hardware is required first :)

Both of these cards are super cool!! BIG thank you to the makers for including options like monochrome color selection, scanlines, and other CRT effects.

It's neat that people are giving some support to obscure things like video 7 or the sprite support on the card you showed at the start.

It is although, early Apple computers were largely intended for enthusiasts that might do things like this. Unlike more recent products that are designed to frustrate the efforts of the owner to exercise ownership rights over their machine.

Thanks for the review! Minor correction on attribution: of course the A2DVI firmware itself is also based on the great work of Mark and David with their original "analog VGA" projects. I didn't see any issues with the games I tested, but the "analog rendering" is a little more demanding than normal rendering (computation). The glitch you mention with DLORES sounds like a timing issue (scanlines sometimes not ready in time). Certainly can be fixed. I'll look into this. Likewise, if anyone else noticed issues, just let us know (in the github project etc).

Thanks! I'm pretty sure that I mentioned Mark and David, but thanks for the additional attribution.

The mentioned glitch with black lines is already fixed now with latest A2DVI firmware. Issue was triggered by a specific combination of configuration settings. Thanks for reporting and sending the video of the issue. :)

Woo boy, another digital circuit with a higher transistor count than an Apple IIe that resamples the super-low res composite output of an Apple II and turns it into an HDMI video stream.
@CT6502
@CT6502 6 дней назад
Well, technically both of these cards look at the actual digital signals coming out of the Apple II and reconstruct the video from the digital signals. Neither one of them looks at the composite (I misspoke in the video regarding the Tangy Pack). But of course everyone is free to purchase or not. 🙂

The Video7 modes are mostly the mode that blends monochrome and color in double hires (you know the elephant image), and HGRSPEC1 and HGRSPEC2 which respectively remove regular and inverse text bleed by turning the center dot of 11011 into black and 00100 into white.

Sorry, but vintage computers want CRT displays ideally with RGB output.
@CT6502
@CT6502 8 дней назад
Absolutely agree, but sometimes you either don't have a CRT or don't have room for one. Or you just want to use one monitor for several computers. There's definitely a use case for this.

@@CT6502 exactly. i get tired of moving CRTs around. i just want a lightweight 15" panel i can use with everything.
