The amazing thing about the 06 is its age and how great at conception it was,it is a versatile powerhouse to this day. That bullet expanded is so pretty.....lol .That bullet looks great.
The '06 is basically a lengthened year 1888 7.92x57mm German Rifle Commission case, aka 8mm "Mauser" even though Mauser had nothing to do with it (he designed the rifle, the Mauser 98, that replaced the Gewehr 1888 rifle that originally housed the cartridge). The 7.92x57 is the basis of many other good cartridges, so, the '06 had no option but be good.
I think 2900 fps for 165 gr monolithic in 30-06 is awesome. That’s way more velocity than most factory 165 gr loads and the all copper bullet should have excellent penetration.
I’ve used both GMX and TSX/TTSX/LRX and been happy with performance of each. 30-06, 270wsm, 270win, 6.5cm, and 223. I just picked up some 308 165 cx and I’m anxious to see if they group well.
I was able to secure some Superformance 139 gr. CX for my 7mm-08. Looking forward to sighting in and testing on game. I have had good success with the 139 gr. GMX at ranges I shoot here in Kentucky. I switched to CX simply because Hornady discontinued the Full Boar ammo line with the GMX. My rifle shoots lights out with the Full Boar GMX. I sure hope the Superformance CX has similar accuracy. If so, I will be pleased.
I have used 150gmx since they came out in my 300wsm and they have all ways perfect perfect. I also use 130gmx in my 270wsm, I have taken oryx with the 130gmx, and 150gmx
I couldn't get these to shoot a decent group with my 7mm-08. They seem like a great bullet. I have settled on the Terminal Ascent from federal in my 308 and my 7 mag. Still working on the 7mm-08.
The gmx created more fouling than the cx . With the addition of a very Barnes-like cannelure or two, the cx found decreased pressures as well as limiting copper fouling. I haven't found the 165 yet but the 150 is running 3056 fps and shoots great out of my old model 70 lw
That's a beautiful mushroom right there! Could go right on the cover of We Be Guns n Shit Magazine. Neat how mono bullets will outperform cup n core bullets weighing 25-30 % more.
You'll have to remind me Chuck. Have you tested any of Norma's Bond Strike line of bullets? Keep seeing them in stock, in 30-06, on their website. They regularly have the Bond Strike 300 Win mag and 300 WSM in stock too.
@@AlaskanBallistics That is a shame. Yeah I hadn't caught that memo. Truly one of the down sides to living in Alaska. I ordered three boxes of the SP 150gr Norma 308, when PSA had them at $13.99 for memorial day. And just tried the 150gr Norma '06 load in my rifle last Saturday. Inch and a half @ 100 with a vintage 70's Savage. Keep up the good work.
@@AlaskanBallistics that’s too bad. I wouldn’t mind using them on game. Maybe we are spoiled having the CX and Barnes bullets that are like lightening on game.
I would love to see a video where you try out the 180 grain Outfitter CX then do a flash back to the 180 grain Outfitter GMX for an apples to apples comparison of those two. How much improvement there actually is in the expansion in the two is what I am interested in. The fact that they start off right around the 2600 fps mark should make it even more interesting.
I'm going to do a video of barnes ttsx, lrx, nosler etips, hornady gmx and cx. I've got maximum charge rounds loaded and minimum rounds loaded. This is for 7mm Rem Mag. Then I'm going to load all 5 bullets into 7mm-08 with a minimum charge and 18" barrel ( which also loses 150 to 200 fps being a short barrel) to simulate 7mm Rem mag at super long distances.
I'd love to see how that round performs at 500 yards, where its velocity has dropped to around 2000 fps. And what about those TTSXs you had on your bench? 😉 Which of the two are you happier with? Thanks for the vid.
Very impressive velocity for a copper bullet. I get around 2940 from a 24 inch pipe with 165gr interlocks, using superformance powder. Not sure if that's what they use in the loaded ammo though. I only hunt whitetail so I don't see the need for copper bullets in a 30-06.
Fair enough. The copper bullets will destroy less meat from staying together better generally speaking. But I'm glad you've found what you like. Godspeed and good hunting.
@@AlaskanBallistics id imagine that's true, although I have looked at deer my uncle has shot with barnes bullets and the wound tracks don't look all that different. I'm not against using copper bullets but I have boxes of the interlocks I bought back when they were affordable, and they shoot good. Don't exactly feel like spending money and time making up new loads. Good hunting to you as well! My goose season has been great so far, limited all 3 times I've gone out.
@@AlaskanBallistics interesting. The second Gen Ruger American has an adjustable cheek comb. Not many in the market now. Mostly 20 inch barrles I’m seeing. But it looks nice!
Hey Chuck, the 30-06 is seldom a mistake. My fav current rifle is an 06 AI . That velocity is not too shabby out of a 22 inch barrel for a 165 grain. Great to see quality factory ammo. By the way, Tikka is the best selling rifle in New Zealand. Absolutely beautiful expansion! Quality projectile. Thanks to Hornady for producing quality factory ammo. Thanks for sharing Dave
With all the new bullets coming out, it might be time to find a shooting ares with 250 to 300 yards for real world expansion, penetration testing. More time consuming, I know, but at these short ranges expansion is almost a sure thing. Thanks for the video and information.
Ironically I'm uploading the .300 win mag superformance version of this right now. I'm thinking it's a copy of the LRX but the petals more flatten than peel back... so probably technically not a copy, but we know lol.
So I went to the range with this load in 300 win mag. It was complete garbage. No accuracy whatsoever. One round was so hard to chamber I chunked it. Also had one that made the bolt very tight to open.
Do people really troll someone for not wearing eye protection? I cant come up with any rational reason for that complaint? Your eyes, your ears, i say do as you please? U seem like you're of age and considered a adult. For the "Karens" that are about to kick the door down and explain the reasoning, when complaining about such as this, do you put the same effort into complaining about what type of clothing is worn when someone is in a cold climate? Or someones physical appearance? Genuinely curious. Seems like a channel that the viwers would be comprised of mostly a male audience
