I've not watched the video yet, but in answer to your first question, an interlocked socket is fine for EV charging according to the regs (most likely), at least what I got from an eFIXX video a couple of weeks ago - It's very much one of those things where an interlocked socket is in the same spirit as a shuttered socket just in a different form. The eFIXX channel/video goes into what the regs say about the matter more than I care to in a comment, but it might be worth a watch if you want more info

Padlock hole is typically intended for lock-out tag-out (LOTO) procedures to stop people from turning things on while they are being worked on, and it looks like they just kept the feature (it's on the 'normal' industrial power switches as well, the ones that look like this but red)

To comply with UK wiring regs, an external socket intended for EV charging would need either PEN fault protection ( assuming supply is TNCS), or a TT earth rod. It would also need to be fed from a type B RCD

I've been working at a body shop for a bit now and extra tips I learned was if you're painting the door, it's better to take off the mirror and belt molding (the trim at the bottom of the window) for a better paint job in the end. The mirror can get in the way, and if you're unlucky, the clear coat could stick in that gap between the door and the belt molding.

Shutters are required on sockets conforming to BS 1363, but these are made to BS 60309, in which I can't find mention of shutters

Based on the outdoor switch box Dave Jones had issues with, taping over the top and sides of the seam will help with waterproofing, especially if the box gets exposed to sunlight. Leave the bottom untaped since it might be designed to let moisture escape, and it also looks like some electronics safe silicone around the outlet can't hurt either. Also add a bag of desiccant inside if there's enough room left over, and try to have the cable entry holes at the bottom of the box.

Shops selling returnd goods as new, never!!!! I once went from york to leeds to buy an expensive commodore monitor for my amiga 1200, i paid a fair wedge for it even after discount with it being the last one and the display model. I got it home, was kind of happy, but the screen had light/dark areas making a 4 leaf clover pattern, after a week or so i wasn't super impressed by it but would live with it. There’s only one thing to do with this - take it to your local swimming pool and submerge it in the kids pool at 1 metre for 30 minutes!!! Then open it :-)

Just today I was just packing up our rack from an event, and it uses the exact same connector for power. Obviously the male version, so you need a cable with a female socket on the end to power it up. The padlock hole is for venues, wouldn't want someone poking around, figuring out the interlock and getting a shock. Or worse, unplugging a piece of equipment.

I installed a 32A socket in my garage. the bottom of the garage door has just enough of a gap for an EV charger cable when shut. Now I can plug in my home made EV charger. The internals stay in the garage.

Your switch needs a little roof over it, Julian. Or a flap of pond-liner material draped over it, which would look very unprofessional. LOL

Neat idea, but I’ve only seen the black foamy material used in weatherproofing applications, not IP67.

But this is an over-engineered outlet. In the rest of Europe there are these sockets without a switch for in- and outside. So far nothing catastrophic has happened. Maybe you should build a shed, in it you put a box and in it the watertight socket. If that's enough...

I think that you can mount that on an outside wall and run a cable through. Then as long as you terminate it in a normal 13A plug you don't have to follow any regulations. It is just a pluggble device that happens to be fixed to the wall. And IP67 notwithstanding I would still put sealer on that - I'm not convinced.

Did you notice that the switch does not have a valid CE symbol! So how did it get a UKCA mark on the front?

I noticed your "6BA" wrench, those are not easy to find in metric countries, the sellers in hardware stores don''t even know they do exist 😅 I have the whole set of BA wrenches I need them as I tinker aircraft parts.

To get IP67 rating, they are actually properly tested, so no matter what you may or may not think, they testing is done under the conditions as specified in the standard to get the rating. Unless you can test under the prescribed conditions and can prove it fails (in which case, it should be a warranty issue anyway) you really can not go making assumptions based on purely circumstantial evidence. If you are worried about the legality of installing the socket, would be probably better to actually ask a properly trained and licensed electrician prior to purchasing it. You will more than likely find the interlock is sufficient to be legal, but if you do not know the regulations, you should not be playing with mains wiring anyway. Sorry, to be so negative, but wild assumptions and lack of knowledge of regualtions annoy me, and comments are just our feelings and opinions :)
