Well I have to say I enjoy watching the older games just because it brings me back to my youth ! some great players from around 76 to 87ish players like Brady,Currie, Devonshire , Cunningham , J.Robertson ,P .Barnes ,Coppell ,Hoddle , Robson ,Gemmill , Woodcock , McDermott ,Sounness, Rixand too many more to mention but wasn't better or worse all players have their own time Football is simply the best always!
Football seemed to be a lot more direct in those days, with the emphasis on attacking as soon as possible. Much more exciting than today's game, where teams seem to be endlessly passing backwards and sideways and desperately hanging on to possession.
People were complaining about negativity in football back then; bemoaning the lack of creativity and technical skill. That's why three points for a win was introduced in 1981. Remember, you're getting less than one quarter of the games on highlights here, so how representative of the match is open to question. In my subjective opinion, football in Britain is much better these days. The technique and skill brought in by foreign players and managers has been a boon. Plus, skillful play is more encouraged by the crackdown on the thuggery that stymied some of the better players in the past.
@@mschauhan3855 Footballers always played for money. Anything else is wishful thinking. United's 1948 cup winning team nearly went on strike over bonuses. The idea that footballers transcend the rest of humanity and are motivated by anything other than material gain is farcical.
Players like Regis, Statham at WBA, at Villa, Morley and Cowans, Devonshire at West Ham, and Hoddle at Spurs and Greenwood was struggling to put together a highly capable team for the WC in Spain in 1982?
25:13 the same Martin Jol who eventually became Tottenham Hotspur manager from 2004 til 2007 and then Fulham for two years. Only he had more hair as a Baggies player. Crazy to think Manchester City had been unlucky enough to lose the Cup Final a few months before this, ended up 10th and then a season later, relegated by conceding a solitary goal. Nevermind having to endure that useless c**t Pleat hopping across the Maine Road pitch like some feckless springbok
