WAX STAINS IN CERTAIN SEALED CONCRETE CANDLE JARS
In the video, you may have noticed a little ring stain around the inside of certain sealants. Don't worry, this is not a sign of poor sealing, but a characteristic of how sealants work their magic. You see, there are two types of sealants - ones that block like Earth Safe Finishes and ones that repel like Eco Advance. A block sealant forms a barrier on the concrete like a plastic covering. A repel sealant coats the pores of the concrete like a protective sunblock. Both work well but a repel sealant may result in a slight stain on the inside, but fear not, if you have sealed your vessel properly, it won't penetrate beyond that.

If you notice in the video there is a stain on the top of the candle as well as a ring around the inside. Those stains are not due to NOT sealing the vessels properly. Those stains are from the form of the sealant. What I mean is there are 2 types of sealants: sealants that block and sealants that repel. A sealant that blocks is a sealant that forms a barrier or wall. Think of a piece of plastic covering. A sealant that repels is a sealant that coats the pores of the concrete. Think sun block. So EA repels and so you will see that it does stain the vessel on the inside but because it repels it won't penetrate outward. Hopefully that makes sense.

Awesome review! Thank you!! I’ve tried the concrete wet-look sealer by Behr. It makes it shiny and didn’t leave streaks for me. However, wherever you apply it can’t get over 140 degrees since that’s when the sealer starts breaking down according to Behr.
@upvibecandle
@upvibecandle Год назад
Thank you. My criteria was such that I would not have tested Behr. 140 degrees is way too low for a lot of candle makers who believe 175 degrees is acceptable for a surface jar temperature. Even though I strive to keep my temps at 140 and lower I know others won't so I had to consider all safety scenarios.

You should def let it cure for the time frame it needs. Make sure you are letting it soak for a bit and not just dip and out. Also, you can always seal the inside with ESF let it dry for a bit and then dip into ECO. That way you have the best of both worlds.@@ruthbarthels2919

During your review of Eco-Advance you mention that, after sealing them, you let your candles fully cure for two weeks. But you also mention that Eco Advance only takes 48 hours to fully dry. Can you elaborate why you had to wait two weeks? has that something to do with the type of concrete you're using. I'm using Hydrostone for my project and I'm hoping I don't need to wait two weeks before they can be used.

I'm doing each dip about five minutes apart and buffing the surface with a microfiber cloth between each pass so that the surface doesn't get to slick feeling. @@kurlee2460 Most of the burn times were around the same time but they were never the same. Those variables have to do with so many factors and I would bet a sealant would be low on the list. Most people don't place extremely hot items directly on any surface as there is always room for error. Cheng's wasn't made for that purpose. And... Anyone who works with concrete knows concrete is heat resistant but it must be sealed in order to protect things from penetrating in or out.

@@upvibecandle Yes, of course. That's why I watched this video, to seal my concrete countertop. But why would anyone choose a hear sensitive sealer if there's a heat resistant one? I had a granite counter that I placed trays straight from broiling in the oven onto, and I had 0 issues. Concrete (finished, before sealer) is rated very high as well.

There are plenty of reasons and remember most people don't put hot stuff directly on countertops. My countertop is heat resistant but my wife would shoot me if I place something hot on the counter so we don't do it. Most people have that point of view. So, why do people by a sealer that isn't heat resistant? Cost, VOCs, convenience, easy of use and if you are a contractor kickback.@@shane250

Apologies but is there a, non-hysterical version? I’m Australian 😊

Omg, you’re so…..cute! Ok what does it look like when there’s leakage, and can you just seal the inside to allow the concrete look on the outside? Soooo darn cute, hee hee!

If you see leakage you will see wet spots on the outside. Yes you can just seal the inside.
