I'd add something to this: Grandma's way. Learnt from a book on Native American folktales. Basically the idea is that grandma's way is that if something hard needs doing, grandma will keep going until it is done. No getting off the hook, it is getting done, its just a matter of time. No "if done", just "when done." I find this really helps me shift my mindset, and really WANT to be more productive, as there's no way out except for through, so I'd better make good use of my time or this project is just going to drag on and on (which can sometimes happen, and is also fine).
This is really good, and something I haven't heard before (bit similar to Eat The Frog but different in important ways). Thanks for adding, I'll add it to my list! Can you remember the name of the book?
In the middle of re-routining myself, this has been really helpful & inspiring. Thank you 🙌🏼I like to feed myself fresh nutritious tasty food so it often takes up quite bit of time, I've used the "I get to" about it for a long time & remembering I have the privilege of resources/access/ability etc and now I must of re-routed my mind because I rarely feel any resistance to doing it. Allocating myself amounts of time to complete tasks and the full stop method work really well for me.
Another Great Video, thank you Joel after seeing Non-zero day I started a google sheet with my two friends with two goals of reading and exercising ... we have a checkbox for each that every day we have to mark them ... with a google sheet, we see each other progress and keep each other accountable too it's been on for 24 days with no fail thanks again (excuse my grammar)
I've got a good pre commitment one - in the winter only though - I've got storage heaters so you have to set the heat levels the day before. I always set my heating to go off by about 8.30pm so it's too cold to stay up and I have no choice but to go to bed at the time I pre planned to :D
Great content! ❤️ Thank you for the video!🙏 However, I wish the BGM was less loud and a less distracting genre, so I don't have to stop in the middle of the video to tell you this😅
Ah, I appreciate you taking the time to say this! I'm still working on my approach to BGM - I think it's nice to have some, but in this video I was still learning and it's definitely too loud. Hope you get a chance to watch some others - LMK if my approach has improved!
Another Great Video , Thanks Joel.... i wrote a long comment but RU-vid didn't liked it for some reason ... will write it tomorrow again it's 23:00 need to apply the hard stop :)
Great question! I don't think they do, but I think I haven't explained this well enough. Basically: 1. Sharpening your axe is about making sure you've got all the info you need to start. In the George Abbott example it would be making sure you know what the musical number is trying to convey, where it sits in the show, etc, so that you have the information that will inform the choreography. It makes sure you don't sprint in the wrong direction. 2. Start it now, fix it later is about not letting perfectionism get in the way of doing SOMETHING - it's about getting a first draft out rather than worrying that it's not quite right. So the process is to gather info first, but then get a V1 down as fast as you can. Hope that makes more sense!
Genuine question. Do people in your social or personal life ever consider you to be quite serious? Surely doing these things would make them think that. FYI i personally am a big fan of some of these things, most especially the non zero days
Well, you could ask my friends - but no, I don't think so! I can see how saying something like 'I don't drink on Tuesdays' could come across that way, but you can be nice, friendly, and deliver it with a smile, and people will respect it all the same. In my experience, anyway!
