have fun! i went in june last year, best holidaay of my life. i live in ireland so we dont go very often but we have our new countdown started for our next trip in 2025. 819 days!😂😂
Congratulations, my husband and I celebrate 25 years in January. We just celebrated our daughter's 21st birthday in Disney last September. Unfortunately we were there during Hurricane Ian and we lost our last 2 days when they had to close the parks.
Leakproof bottles are one solution, but lately I’ve just side-stepped the issue entirely. Shampoo and soap in bar form, roll-on deodorant etc can’t leak; it’s also less hassle in your carryon (no messing about with taking out your liquids). You can even get solid toothpaste - you just chew it up a bit before you start brushing. As a side benefit, bars of soap and shampoo often use less plastic packaging (or even none at all). For travel I put soap etc in special soap bags that allow them to dry whilst sealed (Matador make one, mine are by a brand called ‘Travel Buddy’).
I've been using ziplock bags for childrens outfit packing for 38 years. Makes life so much easier. Outfit, underclothes, socks, hair supplies(ie elastic, ribbon, barrettes etc.)and even shoes ready in an instant.
18:38 As someone who lives in Florida, when we laugh and say the weather can be bipolar, we mean it. Winter - you’ll go from freezing to sweltering. I remember not long after we moved here the summer when I was 10, I looked out the front window and it was sunny and looked out the back and it was pouring. You just never know down here 😅
Really? As a life long resident. It’s very predictable especially with the new weather apps. It’s never extremely cold. Our coldest day this winter was 38. Wow. And that day it hit 55.
@@zoobrizz May my weather app must be terrible then 🤣 19 years and my weather app’s hardly ever right, especially in terms of rain. Only time it was accurate was when I studied abroad in Japan. If it called for rain, it was gonna rain. Here, I’ll get 80% chance of storms, and it’ll be sunny and sweltering all day
@@zoobrizz it's predictably unpredictable in my experience. Sunny in the morning, thunderstorms in the afternoon and sunny in the evening. Sure the weather app might tell you that but it's not so perfect that it always predicts exactly when should have your rain gear on. November trips I end up packing for two seasons since I can never be sure if it's will be cold enough for long pants and jackets or warm enough for sandals and shorts.
We just got back from our trip to Disney World last week, and your videos helped guide us through our stay. We had an absolute BLAST and avoided any / all issues. Thanks for all your content! NEXT UP, Disney Cruise!
This video is an amazing guide for travel regardless of whether it is to Disney or somewhere else! I am sharing it with lots of people! Thanks for all your hard work and amazing videos! I love them!
Both of my parents have been in the airline industry since I was born, and these tips are just great travel tips that we have done for every trip- even road trips. My fiancé was dubious about us needing a large collapsible duffle and a large suitcase for our WDW trip for just the 2 of us. Near the end of trip he was so glad I did both with not only how much we got, but just how disorganized our dirty clothes got 😂
One tip that I learned on my trip I just came back from is to use the body glide on the bottom of your feet before you put your socks and shoes on. It significantly reduces blisters and irritation.
Great tips. Note: We usually fly with only carry-ons, and we've never had issues bringing small scissors on the plane. Current restrictions say they can be carried on if they are less than 4" (10 cm) from the pivot). :) Also, arm sleeves are great for layers; they keep your arms warm (or cool if you get them wet) and also block the sun. They roll up and fit in your pocket or bag without having to lug a jacket or a bottle of sunscreen.
Fiskars makes a great pair of folding sewing scissors that I keep in my toiletry bag. I’m a carry-on only gal, and I’ve never been questioned over the scissors.🧡
AJ and everyone, you might get a kick out of this. In 1988 two friends and I flew to San Juan, Puerto Rico to get on a Carnival cruise. One of them is addicted to Coke and read that cruise lines charge an arm and a leg for soft drinks. So she threw a couple of dozen cans of Coke into her suitcase along with her clothes. When she opened her suitcase upon arriving at the hotel in San Juan, she found that all the cans had exploded and soaked her clothes with Coke! At least at that time, the luggage hold was not pressurized, so all that carbonated fluid just burst the seams of the cans! So: put all your clothes in Ziploc bags to avoid them getting ruined. Don’t put pressurized cans in your checked luggage! And make sure to put any liquids in your checked luggage into leakproof bags, or get the special tubes/bottles AJ is telling us about.
My mouth literally dropped reading the second sentence of this comment🤣🤭😬 I thought you were openly throwing your friend under the bus so hard! On a Disney post……. 🫠 I suppose my mind should have went right to Coca Cola…. But… 🤫😏😝🙃
@@B_b818 😂😂😂😂 oh, my! Jeannie is a straight-arrow Baptist and her only addiction was to Diet Coke! By addiction I meant that she couldn’t imagine a day going without one, but she also wasn’t going to pay $5 for a can in 1988!
Instead of a white noise machine (or app), there are several white noise, pink noise, brown noise videos on RU-vid that last 10-11 hours. And you can play it while your phone is charging. There are also relaxation, insomnia music videos that you can use as well. I have tinnitus and I have to alternate videos after a couple nights because my ears get used fro them so fast.
Florida resident, 22 year former Disney manager and Disney geek since 1972 here (I was a year and a half on my first visit). Absolutely yes to the power block with usb ports and noise cancelling items! We just returned from a 5 night AKL stay, and the late night/early morning toilet flush symphony is real🤣. I would also recommend packing a supply of Liquid IV, regardless of the time of year you are travelling. Dehydration is dangerous and this product really helps keep energy levels up and helps prevent those afternoon or early morning headaches.
Substitute for scissors NAIL CLIPPER works for most cutting tasks and can carry aboard plane I do small sewing or beading projects on plane and use clippers for cutting thread Works for bandaid cutting for me too
Regarding the leak proof travel bottles...you can use whatever travel bottles you have and MAKE them leak-proof by simply placing a small piece of plastic wrap or a small ziplock snack bag over the opening, then screwing the lid on over the plastic. I did this when traveling overseas and it prevents leaks AND gives you a spare ziplock baggie or three!
I actually pack this stuff for trips, nice to see I have everything covered. Except that I use Bose in-ear noise cancellation for the plane and an eye mask with white noise. I also have a ScotteVest jacket with removable sleeves for spring and fall. It has load of pocket and zippers. Great for traveling and parks. I can zip my sunglasses into a pocket and hitch a ride without worries. There also a spot to carry my portable battery - a big win! I also recommend that you print a copy of the itinerary and pack in an outside luggage pocket, in case it gets lost. You can tell baggage claim that and then they can track you down easier.
Good tips. Few other things from a seasoned Disney Traveler: Tupperware and gallon size zip loc bags. This comes in handy so much for leftovers and waterproof storage. I also like to bring a couple straws, the biodegradable straws are pretty awful. Waterproof phone pouch for pool day and waterparks. GUM.. it helps so much with an upset stomach, and you won't be able to find it anywhere on property.
Sewing kit scissors are actually okay on carry-ons! I also stayed at the Boardwalk a couple weeks ago and the steamer in room was suspiciously good. I steam clothes professionally for large theatre companies and I’m usually spoiled with industrial quality steamers. I was surprised and delighted
A first for me. I paused video and bought an AirTag for my across the Atlantic trip on Friday! And then watched the rest of video Some great suggestions for making travel a bit less stressful Thank you AJ
Going in July for our girls 2nd birthday. I've been watching a bunch of your videos to properly prepare myself. I haven't been to Disney for a real trip in like 20 years
Whenever I have to pack liquid of any kind in my checked luggage I now use a dry bag that I bought for canoe and kayak trips. I place large items in tied off grocery store bags inside the dry bag and small items go in zip lock bags inside the dry bag. If something breaks or leaks the bag itself will keep everything contained. If I'm going to a park with water rides where I can't store my stuff before getting on the ride the dry bag ends up being my shoulder bag for the day with the addition of a shoulder strap. Phone, camera and anything else I want to stay dry stays dry that way. This year I've decided to get a water bottle with built in filter. I had one years ago but lost it and it was fantastic. I can fill it from in potable water source (sink, water fountain, hotel ice machine and water) and the filter built into the spout works to filter the water for me. It tastes way better and is a safe and cheap way to stay hydrated.
Extra thing for planes with aux slots: if you have someone with you and you want to watch a movie together without trying to time two screens to be the same moment, you can actually buy a aux splitter so you can just have both people have their headphones/earbuds connect to the same screen. I bought one designed for my phone so that I can share my music with my friends, but I’m sure a normal aux one is out there too and it’s awesome! No weird audio from splitting it either!
Also personally with the audio thing, I don’t use noise cancelling for sleep since absolute silence gives me anxiety, but since I’m autistic I found having my noise cancelling earbuds around the park was nice :)
Packing cubes are the best! Also if you’re someone who plans your outfits with different loungeflys try packing the outfits into the loungeflys and then just packing the loungeflys in your luggage
I get to go back in September and do spooky season and everything pumpkin!!! I always bring a little pencil bag with a pen or two, a thing of post its (I’m the kind of person who needs visual reminders everywhere), scotch tape, and a pair of child size scissors in it. It has saved me from so much hassle! Hope this helps someone!
You have toll roads around the Orlando area. But they do accept E-Zpass transponders (the local equivalent is SunPass) that are common all over the New England and Midwest areas. Otherwise carry spare change and cash just in case.
The more recent ios updates now have white noise built in. There are only like 5 different sounds but it is very nice to have when you just need something there to fall asleep to. This can be found under “accessibility” “Audio/Visual “ “Background Sounds” -enjoy.
Water bottles, cooling towels, rechargeable fans, third seat for rented double stroller, matching shirts, ponchos, water flavoring, dry clothes and shoes that can be wiped dry. Not flying.
Dollar tree is your friend for sewing kits and first aid equipment. They also have the silicone bottles for soap and shampoo and such. Though they are marketed as a salad dressing bottle. Definately double bag those.
Definitely agree that those silicone refillable containers are amazing. I got one that was super overpriced like $5 for one at CVS but it’s the perfect size for getting a decent size of lotion and it doesn’t leak and is easy to dispense.
we travel carryon only, no matter where we are going or for how long, so we can’t use some of these ideas, but your videos are always so thoughtful. thanks, AJ!
I go nowhere without at least a couple of Travel Type Space bags - they are like Vacuum Bags BUT to get the air out of them you roll them up to the bottom. So you do not need a pump or a Vacuum. They take up much less space than the clothes themselves and I like putting dirty clothes in them since they prevent them from smelling up the rest of the Luggage. On a road trip I also have at least a couple of those Newer Metal Cups that keep liquids hot or cold. I can get a whole day of cold drink with them and all I have to do is spill the Fast Food Drink into them. But I agree that having a few larger (Like gallon ones) plastic storage bags is a great idea for things that could spill or leak.
Thank You DFBGuide! What a thrill! Everything that you mentioned in the video I already have it ready for my next trip to Disney. Do you think you can make a video of the essentials that should be packed at Christmas or winter time to Disney?
Am I the only one who doesn't understand the popularity of wireless earphones. Tried them once and hated them. It felt like they were gonna fall out of my ears at any time plus I didn't like having to charge them. I'll stick with my regular old earphones. This was a really good and informative video though.
Yes but then I bought itty-bitty ones cuz I guess I have small ears? The Jbl Dime fits perfectly so my kids dont worry so much about how obsessed I am about Disney food.
Gotta find the right set for a good fit. They've become an essential part of my EDC and get daily use. For charging I just drop mine on my wireless charge pad along with my phone+watch at bedtime. Everything charges wireless, easy
We finally went to Disney after planning and saving 2 years, and while it was a fun trip, I was hugely disappointed in what I expected for the $3-4k price tag. Maybe it's just us, but if you are planning on breaking YOUR bank just to give your family the best vacay, you might reconsider, I would've gone internationally or a fancy beach house in FL, maybe a multi state road trip in Colorado and such. It's just not as great as they make it out to be for the outrageous price
I'll be honest here, Disney is best done in small chunks and with an outside the resort bubble experience. What I mean by that is that it's better to stay at a hotel that is near Disney but not a Disney property. It's better to do a day or two of Disney parks but combine it with a trip to Universal or Sea World. It's better to eat maybe a meal or two at Disney but get the majority of your meals someplace else. If you are going to do a Disney Resort only vacation yes you are going to pay through the nose for it and YES there are much better values in vacations elsewhere. In some cases that better value is right down the road from Disney.
I'm going to the Halloween show in Oct. and can't wait. I don't pack much when I go. I don't need a lot of stuff and I just mix and match, and I bring a carry on bag on the plane. I live in MD and my flight is only 2 hours to Orlando. I'm not going to sew on vacation. So far I've been lucky with nothing going wrong. I always bring my own water bottle.
AirTag your people, too! Was just at WDW with my 65yr old mom and wanted to spend an afternoon in Epcot while she wanted to chill by the pool…so I tossed an AirTag in her park bag in case she got turned around when we met up in World Showcase. (Easier than explaining the “Find My” situation in her phone…which is dead half the time, anyway.) Also used this on my best friend in Rome and London in case we got separated. 👍
I would add an eyeglass repair kit. Specifically for the little screwdriver. It’s handy for tightening a screw on the hinge of your sunglasses or changing the battery on a MagicBand.
Oh and at least two pairs of cheap sunglasses. My personal preference is for the sports style sunglasses (they’re comfortable and do a very good job at keeping the sun out of your peripheral vision). You don’t want to lose your Oakleys or Ray-Bans.
Hi AJ I regularly watch your videos. I was at WDW last May and being a senior I suffered from heat prostration. I walked for an hour at high noon looking for a place to sit down in the shade. Also could not find water sources. Would you kindly consider making a video on free places to rest and cool off and find water? Strollers block all of the seating everywhere
Considering the size of the parks, and the volume of people who go there, There are Not near enough water refill stations. Free cups of water when there is a huge order line can be time killers. Filtered water is really important at Magic Kingdom.
I have a white noise generator, a small one, and I don't use it for the resort noise at night, but I use it to mask the snoring of my wife 😂😂😂. I have to say that it works like a champ.
Another reason to carry layers, if you get caught in the rain and then have to ride a bus back to your hotel, those buses are NOT WARM. The a/c at night when you’re wearing rain dampened clothes is awful!
AJ when we travel and at night in the hotel we use my cellphone with a small Bluetooth speaker and play fan sound from you tube for 10 hours works great just leave the phone and the speaker plugged in
not a Disney trip, but i wish i got the packing cube for this trip....I can't tell you how much of a mess my side of the room i had, and we just stayed for 4 days! IT WAS A MESS! also Bring a book...
I always found fountain water at Disney to be pretty bad tasting. I'm curious if the water bottle fillers have a filter or taste any better? Are there any options that people use to make the water taste better and that can be used with a collapsible water bottle? Thanks!
I've just ordered a water bottle with filter to replace one I lost. Regardless of how the water going into it taste the filter at the spout makes it taste just fine.
Why spend spend spend to be in order. How about one gets in order with one has instead of spending more on unnecessary items. Get creative without spending. If you can’t travel back with souvenirs, you have options of shipping them to home. When traveling, shopping for necessities within your travels also lets you also have an adventure where you are traveling too. Meet locals and give back to where you travel. Enjoy yourself!
I thought you could bring scissors in carry on as long as the blade from pivot point was less than 4 inches. Am I not understanding TSA guidelines?????
