This Tesla coil uses a single IRFP460N MOSFET, powered by a simple half bridge rectifier. The gate is protected by a bidirectional pair of 15v zener diodes going to ground. I would add more protection circuitry, but I don't have any 400v TVS diodes. A small transformer is used as a ballast. The secondary coil form and toroid are 3D printed.
I was going to use a 40W light bulb as a ballast, but it was just too weak. I kinda underestimated the power requirement there... It would have been comically fitting to use a Westinghouse product to build a Tesla coil though.
I would have added an interrupter, but I can't seem to get that to work without sacrificing power. Interrupting an SSTC is a lot easier than interrupting a slayer exciter. Slayers seem to be the rabid, feral cats of the high voltage world. If you have any ideas, please leave a comment!

It's your new little fuzzy friend.

And yes, I know holding together a mains powered Tesla coil with alligator clips is unnecessarily sketchy. I have it all properly soldered together and assembled in a neat little package now so don't yell at me.

Cool , very cool what transistor did you use? Any schematics ?

I used an IRFP460n MOSFET. The circuit is a modified version of this one. www.instructables.com/Tesla-Coil-the-Russian-Slayer-Exciter/ This one is very simplified. If I recall correctly, I used the same resistor values on the base of the MOSFET except the pulldown resistor was 1.8k. I just used a 15v zener to protect the gate. I skipped the rest of the protection circuitry and called it a day lol. I used a transformer to limit the mains input and just used a half wave rectifier to interrupt it. I don't have any thyristors. And pro tip: use a capacitor to smooth the power input. I've been having trouble popping MOSFETS on my half bridge SSTC and I think that's what's causing it.
