So many colonial buckles, coins and buttons. The ground was loaded and I dug to exhaustion and it was a dig to remember. A once in a lifetime permission sure produced so many coins, buttons and colonial buckles

Amazing hunt Todd! The complete frame is amazing. Bless you experiencing ALZ with your Mom. Such a tough and cruel disease. Lost my Mom to it in 2021. I’m just happy that her mind is no longer cloudy. That knowledge brought a lot of peace. God Bless You. Take care!
@AppalachianHistoryDetectives
Thanks Buddy. Those who have gone through it understand others going through it. It is cruel and hard on the living but they seem to go in peace. I hate seeing my mom go through this and become like a kid again but I love her dearly and will walk this walk with her. God bless.

What is a "tom back"?

It is an early alloy metal common in the 1700's. It was shiny, almost silvery, but had Tin, Lead and Nickel alloy. These buttons are valued by detectorists.

@AppalachianHistoryDetectives
I honestly don't clean them with anything. I've heard Hydrogen Peroxide and water work well with silver coins. For Coppers I will use Andre Pencils if they have good detail and aren't older than mid 1800's. The old coins, I only use a toothpick and a tooth brush....no water! Thanks for asking....

Hey Chris, check out my latest video I post on this site just this Friday. There were two houses side by side back in the 1780's with 19 kids living in them. I bet I've found over 60 buttons at this site alone and over 100 easily on this farm. I've also found over 30 coins dated 1818 and earlier. The 1818 coin I find in the Friday video is the "youngest" at this site. I go back and find a 1758 Spanish Reale which I will show in an upcoming video.

Interesting observation. I just assume it was kids being kids back in the day. I do find a 1700's kids toy here that is coming up in an upcoming video and there were lots of kids who lived in these two side by side houses. Their losses have been valued treasures to me. Hey Dave thanks for swinging by. I too seem to find a lot of the pieces from buckles and rarely the whole thing. They must not have been made sturdy and many are thin. I think they broke easily. These are the first I've ever found unbroken. The Chaff was likely iron and rotted away. Cheers!!

Wow!!!! Todd what an amazing day you have had. All that hard work is paying off. These are the days we love, when were are out detecting. An i love it when i don't have to walk a mile or two to find a few relics. I still love finding all things no matter how far i have to go to find them, but when you only have to walk around in circles in about a 20-30 yard area, man that's the best day ever out detecting. Especially when you are finding the goods/relics like have been. It just don't get any better then that. You had one heck of an amazing day on this permission. An i believe you have only hit the tip of the ice berg. If they had that many children, an they all built there homes on that land, then you have a lot of ground to cover an alot of awesome finds awaiting your diggs. You could probably hunt that permission the rest of the year. Congrats on all of your awesome/amazing finds. They all were amazing. Sorry to hear about your momma. That's a hard thing to deal with. We have to be there to take care of them every moment we can when they get in that condition. An for those that haven't had to experience it, an i hope they never do, man what a job it is to take care of them. We are taking care of my wife's mom an Dad. An they are getting up there in age, an there just not able to be on there own anymore. So we have moved them in with us now. An we look after them every day, all day. An man you want to talk about a full time job. Its like we have two kids living with us but we wouldn't have it any other way, other for them to be here with us. Keeping them happy an content. With them knowing that we are here to take care of there every need. So we will take care of them until they are called home by Jesus. Her momma isn't doing good at all, we believe she is ready to go home to be with all her loved ones that have already made that journey. So now we just spend every moment we can with them. Once they leave this old world then they are gone. An all we have are the memories of the days gone bye until our day comes. An those days go bye so quickly as we get older it seems. We take time for granted an time waits on no one. It goes by faster then we know. One day we will have all eternity in heaven, an we won't have to worry about time at all. Todd have yourself an amazing weekend an take care of your momma. An spend all the time you can with her while she is still here to enjoy her presence. We will keep her, an your family in our prayers. An we shall catch you on your adventure. 😁👍👍👃
@AppalachianHistoryDetectives
Richard thanks for the long and thoughtful response and I can't do a response justice here in this little dialogue box. Alzheimer's is a terrible disease for those who have to deal with the loved one and seeing the erosion of their memories. Sliding into death is never easy but my mom is a strong woman of faith who will join my dad in Heaven. She leaves me a great legacy and I love spending as much time with her as I can. Days out digging like this was also a blessing. It's rare to find a virgin site and from so long ago even as far west as I am in Virginia. I dug so much that day I was dog tired and it was hard to call it the day and leave. I thank God for days like that. Cheers brother!
