one minute you took me to an idyllic conservatory overlooking the Ashby and next we're 100 years after the apocalypse - now that's what I call a journey
I was going through a stressful day at the office and saw your latest video pop up. Thought... what a nice way to enjoy a 15 min break and received a POV view of relaxation. Well Done and Thank You!
Wonderful. You know if you keep spoiling us with v'log that both entertains us and relaxes us we're going to expect it all the time. I'm so jealous of whoever owns that house on the canal bend. weeping willows hanging down, smooth canal, water views, and a lovely home too. This is the second time I recall you followed a canal to it's end and both were worth the trip, in my opinion. Thank You for sharing.
I can't tell how much I enjoy these trips I'd never be able to experience without these wonderful journeys and such a warm and engaging moderator. My thanks and very best wishes.
I love these vlogs looking at the full screen it’s just as though I’m sitting on the bow. Fantastic. Mind you I did get a bit nervous when you speeded up, ha ha. Best wishes William
Hi David. The Ashby was our first venture out after we'd moved aboard, and although I love to "big up" our home canal (the cov), as you and many others have documented the cov is so heavily urban in places we kind of adopted the Ashby as our home stretch. Beautiful canal, wonderful cruising. We just love the place.
Wonderful on a stressful day. Please consider posting a "slow TV" version of the whole trip. I like to have them playing as I write in the morning. Cheers
I've considered that but three hours of 4K footage would render out to a 55GB file which would take literally hours to render and hours to upload. Unfortunately also there was some nasty buzzing on the sound at certain points (something resonating at certain engine revs) which rather spoils the recording too.
Hi David, Excellent footage of the Ashby canal, lovely coverage as always. Before the local 'backlash' begins, and I'm sure I fall foul of this when I am not local to certain areas, the village in Leicestershire on the Ashby canal you visited in this vlog, namely Shackerstone, is pronounced by the locals as 'Sha - ker - stun'. Talking colloquialisms, if you forget something when you go out in Leicestershire, and need to return home to retrieve it you will hear the phrase, 'slatternipumferit' (obvious when you know that everything said in Leicester by the 'Chissits' is compressed - 'I shall have to nip home for it')... the joys of cruising and meeting folk.
Please know how much your visits/journeys mean to me! I would love to join you during your visits, but realize it is impossible. I am so very thankful to be allowed to follow you during these adventures. You are so important to us during this times of isolation. You are such a blessing to me (Becky) and my family. To the moon and back!! Please keep these beautiful messages coming!
Who on EARTH are these four people that gave this video a thumbs down!? Really? Really. Completely enjoyable, you’ve excelled yet again. The Ashby looks like a real treasure.
Beautiful scenery, and getting the respect it deserved with no need for commentary; the imagery spoke for itself. I see why people have raved about this section of the canals.
What a lovely piece of canal popped up right before I had lunch so I watched it during lunch and was able to even relax and chill and de-stress a little bit before going back to work thank you
'the darling buds of May' As I am sure you know David. The white flowers on the trees are may flowers on the blackthorn trees/bushes. They bud during May, and burst into flower the first week in June, signaling the start of summer. Lovely vlog as usual, thanks.
Finding myself in quarantine, I sought out something to help me pass the days until I can start working (from home) again. Your channel is dangerous, only because the number of times I've seriously considered moving to the UK and buying a narrowboat myself has increased. Thanks for making my isolation less lonely!
Very nice video David. So that is what it is like when cruising the canals and not doing a vlog... nice and quiet. I kind of like just enjoying the view, but I do miss your commentary about the history of the canal you are on. Good luck in the future. 👍
With so many people living in towns and cities these days one forgets just how much beautiful open countryside there actually is on the little island of the UK. Can understand why you live on the boat :)
Honestly, I can imagine this as a lifetime mantra- "take the turns slowly and toot your horn on the very bad ones" Tis very good advice in all walks of life....
I have often wondered if England had any true wilderness left, but your videos have shown that there is a lot of the most beautiful countryside left anywhere, thanks to you and your videos. I don't know if the northern Scottish highlands count as wilderness. I could be thoroughly happy spending the rest of my life viewing that countryside. Thank you.
Marvellous video. It surely is a gorgeous canal, just moor the boat, sit on the deck, sipping a nice mug of tea, and listen to nature. Think you might hear the grass grow. Pure top class bliss.
You should go and visit the battlefield at Bosworth. Fascinating place, important parts in the battle are well marked with explanation signs. Lovely piece of canal.
6:24 I love how a toot from the horn basically mean, "I can't see where I'm going or what's ahead but I'm going anyway" lol made me laugh to think about it those dramatic terms
Its quite strange i could never live on a narrowboat with my gammy leg but really love these vlogs been binge catching up since your start . Thanks for getting me out of the house for a wee while. xx
One of your most beautiful cruises. We were in your part of the world at this time last year. Just gorgeous. Thanks for your great videos. We watch them all!
David, thanks so much for numbering your vlogs. When I find a vlogger I really enjoy I watch the newest few vlogs, then I go to the oldest and binge watch from the first one. (Plus I try to watch all the adverts if I can). It makes it so much easier to follow when they are numbered. You do a great job.
I've just discovered this channel and it's my new favorite channel - time to binge! I don't even live in the UK - I live in Pennsylvania, but I would love to be able to go cruising on some of the UK canals if I ever get to visit there. Thank you for sharing your life on the canal boat, it's a relaxing thing I like to watch now before bed.
Very nice stereo blackbird sounds (and others) during the woody bit - if it wasn't dark outside now, I'd have thought it was coming through my window - good audio sir :o)
Thank you so much for sharing, it made a dull evening into something quite interesting ( those are the words you would use) It’s got 59 unlikes!!!!! What the heck is to unlike ? I almost want to track them all down and ask,,,,, “ What’s to dislike “ 👍😄📐🔨
I love all of you VLOGS -- discovered them about two weeks ago and have now gone through all of them. I can't comment or like/dislike though as I watch them on my ROKU and that feature is not there. You said in one of the recent ones that you changed your mind about buying a new boat. I'm so happy to hear that. I thought you were crazy to get rid of the boat you have. You've put so much money into new parts, so much work cleaning the places we can't see and removing rust. Why buy another used boat and have to go through all of that again. If you do buy a new one one day it should be just that -- a brand new one! One question I have is when you use the word "pound" apparently referring to water. What does "pound" mean in this usage? Is it what we in the U. S. call a "pond."? Finally, I watched your Vandemonium VLOGS also -- I can't believe I could actually sit and watch you work on the van. I was totally surprised. I loved it and am amazed at the wonderful work you do -- so meticulously.
I haven't decided not to, I've just put it off for the moment as I don't have the money to get the boat I want and I wanted to go cruising. A pound in this context is just a large body of water between two locks.
This video is so incredibly peaceful that I'm starting to think all kinds of hippie shit about becoming one with the canals and the reeds and the waterfowl in the afterlife, amen
A beautiful cruise and splendid way to enjoy life. I concur with your gorgeous diagnosis of that stretch of canal, sir, ideal indeed. Fair winds to you,my friend.
if you add palm trees it would look a lot like the St. Johns River in Florida, well some alligators too, that would be a nice touch... Love the videos, my wife thinks I am going to clean out the bank accounts and go across the pond and buy a narrow boat, silly woman.
I use to live at Shackerstone, my (then) girlfriends best friend had a clothes boutique in Ashby and my Grandmother was in an old folks home in Bosworth. To say that you are in the stomping grounds of my youth is putting it mildly :)
I just love you tooting around corners, especially when they are tight. That long boat pulsing through the canal, approaching those tunnels and slowly going in and out. Full speed ahead in the straight bits!
