All legit suggestions. Learned a few things too! In older bikes especially, you don't want condensation. Carbureted bikes I think were where the whole 'Run it until its hot' thing came from, for a bike that's sitting for a while. Newer bikes have a coating inside the tanks to help prevent rust if a bike sits over the winter. I always recommend just draining the fuel, and covering the bike. Throw something around the tank if you're worried about it. I've heard ethanol free gas is okay to store in a bike that'll be sitting over the winter because it doesn't separate and form a layer of water on top. What are your thoughts on that? Also do you have any Winter specific tips? Like dealing with salt from the roads, or when not to ride, etc.? Thanks for the helpful info!
@adobomoto
@adobomoto Год назад
Ethanol free is true. I can’t find one close to me. My tank is plastic lol, no rust to worry about. Just gotta pop the lid every so often to vent pressure. I don’t have a specific winter riding video about gear yet.
@thagingerninjer5391
@thagingerninjer5391 Год назад
I try not to ride when it’s way below freezing. I don’t do it because it’s cold, because I ride in the twenties regularly, but if it’s really cold out, and a car has water leaking, or for some reason the road gets wet from a truck dropping something with water in it out of the back, or whatever, it will freeze pretty quickly, and it doesn’t matter how well you ride, ice will wreck your shit. Mcrider has a video about an instance where he hit a patch of ice shortly after a bucket dropped out of a truck, or something like that. He was able to keep from crashing, but only by the grace of god. Lol. Anything that is waterproof is also wind proof, and I ride between 25-40 degrees relatively comfortable with a frog toggs rain jacket over my regular icon jacket, a balaclava, boot liners, and good winter gloves. Sometimes I’ll put thermals under my jeans, but I also have cheap waterproof pants I got from academy sports that work well to keep the wind off. Wind is the enemy.

5:13 I've been back riding for tje last 3 years and had previously seen these puncture repair kits used on Aussie truckers driving road trains across the outback (on TV ) and as soon as I saw they were available in my local (UK 🇬🇧 )thrift store I bought two (one for my dad)plus spare threads. Fortunately I've not had to plug my motorcycle tyre ,yet but i have plugged two car tyres and they do work a treat. I have looked into the emergency gas tyre inflators but haven't bought one yet as they do carry some risk, so in the event of a puncture on my bike I'm relying on a kind hearted motorist taking pity on me as most modern cars carry a 12v compressor as part of a tyre repair kit as an alternative to a space saver or spare wheel. Im still running a tinted visor so the tip on carrying a spare will come in handy with our weather being so changeable atm. Love the vids, very informative ,concise and to the point

Great tips. I can get my oil filter at Walmart. It's a Fram, but my oil gets changed long before 3k miles. No idea who really makes Triumph filters anyway. On the oil drain plug washers, you can ALWAYS use them twice if you just flip it over so the plug side is fresh, no embossment. I think we all get angst over oil drip under our bikes but the side that isn't marked will seat to the plug fine and the bike side of it is wider than the embossment so, barring some scratch or other damage, good to go. But yeah, when you buy some, get 10. For more warmth, yes, newspaper (if you can still find) or any paper like stuffing to make more still air space inside your jacket. Most important for your hands and feet to stay warm though. I'm fair weather guy now but they make heated gloves and socks. I worked outside in Alaska. (If you aren't riding, you want the plastic bag on the outside of your jacket) Ebay is definitely a great source for us. Lots of stuff I wouldn't have thought of and very good prices. Amazon for some stuff also (I get my oil there). The gas up and chain cleaning tips are spot on too. I'm not a sport bike guy, but I like your content and your energy. Subscribed.

You can resurface crush washers with fine sandpaper. You can reuse them 3-4 times before they’re too thin, and have to replace them. They usually come with filters, but in case you get one that doesn’t, or you lose one, all you have to do is resurface it.

The between two cars bit, coming right after the checking mirrors for getting rear-ended, is one spot I agree with but have a personal exception. I have been in the situation of traffic ahead coming to a complete stop, and wondering whether the traffic behind has enough room to make it. The first time it happened, I bailed out to the inside (between lanes), rather than the shoulder. That was an unintentional move, I think maybe that side was picked as it was the way the bike leaned when I started moving. But that move ended up saving my life, as the car behind me hit the car ahead of me, and the three cars behind us went flying by with tires screeching on the shoulder. I have witnessed a similar scenario (without crashes) at couple other times since. After the first one, I started to prefer inside of the lane to stop when in that situation, with the room ahead to get the shoulder if I need to. It's probably one of the few situations I stop to the inside of the lane.

HOLY SHIT, flickering your tail light is the EXACT thing i do when I'm stopped at a light on my bike. I didn't even know that was a thing, i just started doing it out of worrying about being rear ended. Once a car is stopped behind me i dont worry AS MUCH about being rear ended so i kind of relax some, but until then i am also staring at my rear view mirror, its a GOOD habit to have. I also look in my rear view when pullout onto the road just to make sure no one is coming up on my ass too fast...lol.

Better than rubber cloves under the gloves to protect from cold, especially if it's raining, is to get those big plastic gloves (like they use in fast food places) and put over the gloves. That keeps the gloves dry, and leaves more insulating air inside.

The inner race of your wheel bearings are braced by a collar inside the wheel. The wheel spacers put pressure on the outside of the inner race. No matter how tight you make your axle nut, you will never be side loading your wheel bearings because of that design. If you’ve seen peoples wheel bearings go out because of a tight axle nut, they probable weren’t driven in snug against that inner collar. They are not like the cone bearings inside your car that need a preload.
@adobomoto
@adobomoto Год назад
Yeah i’ve had this discussion at the track. We remove these rear wheels so much and when we over tighten, the outter spacers actually get warped. I buy an extra set of spacers because of this and change em out every so often depending on how many times I’ve taken my wheel off. Another reason I just safety wire that nut. I’m making a video about this soon.
@HighGrade_FireBlade
@HighGrade_FireBlade Год назад
@@adobomoto That’s just one of those things you need a torque wrench for. I’ve never had a problem with deforming my spacers following manufacturer specs and my rear tires only last 2500-3000 miles so I have that nut on and off a lot.
