If you knew every single one of these tips, you are a certified gigachad and I applaud you. You better let me know in the comments if you knew all of them so I can bask in how awesome you are! This video took forever. I hope you like it.
As Ms. Chalice, when fighting King Dice, his heart cards get a small Chalice-exclusive heart particle above them that you can parry, since without them, the phase would be nearly impossible due to Chalice's horizontal parry.
7:04 you can tell that convergence works on both Ribby and Croaks both by observing how fast your super meter charges up compared to other bosses, and with the fact that phase 2 ends in like 10 seconds with the damage that carries over. It's super effective for the first half of the fight.
I was a little surprised that I knew most of these. I have only been playing since July, but I guess I have since gotten all S-ranks on them, so perhaps in doing that I've increased my brain hole. I did not, however, know that the Smoke Bomb and P. Sugar actually had an effect on plane levels. That was real interesting. Oh and for fact number three, if you don't feel like playing as Ms. Chalice, you can also equip Whetstone. With that, you can party off of them and get enough height to actually get all 8 shots from the EX move on them.
You are just like me. I feel like a breezed through s rank with chalice and the party ring if need be. I think people who discovered the game later on benefitted more. But still one of my all time favorites with injustice/mk, Arkham, and banjo Kazooie
@@panicblinkday y'know now I'm curious. Which boss did you struggle with the most your first time through? For me it was Grim and Saltbaker was close behind.
I knew most of these, but here is some you prob didn't know: So I tested out the Ribby and Croaks thing with Converge with BOTH the Geo healthbar and Healthbar mod, it doesn't work, Croaks doesn't get damaged till second phase. I knew about this a long time, if you use converge and shoot up right and go close up, you get TWICE bar super cause even tho Croaks doesn't get damaged, he still has a hitbox that doesn't lose health, so if you want to do INSANE damage with ex or super, use that! Also, if you have Super 3 Chalice, wait till Ribby rolls to the left, when he pops up, use Super 3, if you did dmg before the phase transition, you will almost SKIP THE PHASE, it always works, and it's rlly great for S Rank, bc Ribby still has his hitbox on Phase 2, this happens Edit: I also forgot to tell this: Before the DLC you could STILL refight the mausoleums, go to an older version (on steam) and try it!
For years I've been avoiding using Smoke Bomb for plane levels thinking it didn't do anything, and only about a week ago did I realize that it actually did give you a little invulnerability! The game really should tell you the effects of charms on the plane...
I understand but I think the reason that you aren’t told the abilities of charms when using the plane is because there isn’t enough room in the description to explain it but you can still say that because they could’ve told you the abilities of the charms in the tutorial place for the plane btw I did not know the you could duck under the flies in moonshine mob(probably because I don’t have the game)so my mind is now blown
I knew about the Cala Maria spot! Also a little fact/trick to S rank or complete Cala maria: Before she does the stone gaze attack, she does a little sound (the sound of the gaze but very difficult to hear). After like 1-2 seconds, she does the gaze attack. So if you pau attention, you can hear the sount and quickly go over her head. Try it, I'm not lying.
I change the audio settings before playing Cala Maria. I make sure SFX is turned right up and I turn the music down. It makes it much easier to hear the noise she makes before the stone gaze attack. It’s like a very brief high pitched scream.
3:06 you can actually do it to beppi with cuphead/mugman. Some of beppi's hitbox is invisible so if you just jump in the middle and use the ex at the highest point of ur jump it should hit all of the ex. Nice vid btw
I initially thought these facts were just well known fact that everybody knew, but most if not al of these facts I didn’t even know and I’m playing cuphead nonstop. Great facts and fantastic video! Keep it up!
There’s also a way to maximize damage in Djimmi the Great, where if you shoot the heads in second phase with peashooter a little bit and then shooting a lobber, the damage from both weapons carries over even though they deal much more damage than the health of the heads, so you can essentially skip the 3rd phase.
This is because Djimmi only has 4 phases in the game code with the second phase technically starts a bit before he meditates, and the parts with the stacks and the sarcophagus are both in this same phase.
Also, making sure you get the treasure attack for the first phase and getting lots of parries while dealing damage to Djimmi, when he's about to start his second phase, use your super to get a ton of damage to his third phase before it actually shows up. It makes the third phase a breeze. It's basically the same thing you can do to Rumor Honeybottoms that Justo mentioned in this video.
Tip for those who wanna get the "The high hat" achievement. Esther is the easiest. In phase 1 the flying horse that spits cactus balls at you is the only minion in the entire battle
Here's a tip for Perilous Piers: At the octopus part use the converge shot (don't use lock on it tho) it will kill all the shrimps coming at you and will make that part so much easier. If you're going for a P-Rank try farming parries or use the Divine Relic (or just the coffee charm) then wait until you get 5 super cards then you must have the super art 2 equipped with Cuphead and reach the end of the end of the level with at least 3 HP then once you reach the octopus part don't parry it's head just jump into the water and right before you hit the water use your super and start dashing as fast as you can keep doing that until you reached the end of the level, it can be a bit hard to do but it makes P Ranking that level much easier. Well, hope these tips helped!
some other things i noticed: when you use super art 3 as chalice with the golden chalice filter, her ancient form it gets a little more golden if you destroy all the heads on the djimmi's second phase, it actually deals a bit more damage, and if you do this and parry enough to use an super on first phase, you can pretty much skip phase 3 but i dont recommend it for expert since you lose more time and take damage more easily
Nice video! Great to see your channel grow so fast. Regarding Cuphead in the background of the Saltbaker fight, isn’t that also dependent on who you choose to play with initially? I know mine definitely showed Mugman in the jar.
I knew all of these already! And here's some fun facts of my own! If you hold L&R in front of saltbaker's bakery you can replay the area before his boss fight! And under the list the dlc bosses are under ingredients instead of souls! And justo sucks at werner! Also surprised you mentioned saltbaker worst shot when it gave you PTSD for life....
During the leviathan phase of captain brineybeard, you can actually duck underneath the fire bubbles that the uvula spits out, but you can only do that on regular mode, on expert I think the bubbles make more of an oval shape, which makes it most likely impossible to duck underneath it without getting hit
Theres my fact: When the first cutscene of the DLC ends, you can talk to Saltbaker and he basically foreshadows the end of the DLC. He says that the most important ingredient for any food (in this case, a Wondertart) is the heart and SOUL, which is revealed at the end to be needed for the Wondertart.
I can in fact confirm that Converge deals double damage on Ribby and Croaks. I tested it with the Coffee charm equipped and used the Spreader on them, and not even that shot filled the meter as quickly as Converge did.
1. I happened to know all of them 2. For Cala Maria’s 2nd phase (Medusa) Equipping Cuphead, using the bombs, and aiming a bit to the right, you can hit her while avoiding the petrifaction ray. 3. In Cala Maria’s Last phase, if you can find the sweet spot right in front of her, you can avoid both the petrification ray and the green bubble. Also fun fact: on the Phantom Express’ third phase with the lightning rods, if you stand at the very right side of the screen you can avoid the both of the lightning attacks. P.S. Good work with the channel. Your S rank guides have helped me out quite a lot, and without them I probably wouldn’t have been able to get as far as I did.
So for #12, you actually can damage cala maria with the bomb in her second phase without going mini plane. I did this when I was fighting her for the S rank. If you fly to the very top of the screen (I recommene still holding the up button just to be extra sure) and position yourself to where the bomb is hitting the head of the squid (or octopus idk), you'll deal damage. This made second phase a breeze, theres only 3 eels that can hit you there but dodging them is relatively easy as long as they don't shoot at the same time, which happens fairly rarely, or at least it did for me. This means you not only dodge her eye beams, but also majority of the electric bullets from the eels
I was going to say the same thing! The bombs do work at the back of her head (I’ve noticed Chalice’s bombs don’t work as well though). You aim for the head of the octopus (it looks a bit like a hair bun). I just stay there and bomb that the whole time and it’s over pretty quick. Like you said you still need to dodge the odd projectile from the eels but you just have to move left and right a little. They’re pretty easy to dodge!
Just a little extra tip: If you pause buffer right after defeating Wally’s 3rd phase, then the final phase actually spawns right away, when it normally takes 4 seconds for the final phase to start. This trick is actually used in speedrunning.
Divine relic actually boosts all the charms, as whetstone dies more damage, smoke bomb lasts a bit longer (as in you’re invincible when you start and end the dash), and the heart ring is on the 1st 3rd and 5th allowing you to get health faster
i actually didn't know alot of these! finally a good "you didn't know" video i have 400+ hours in cuphead and it's my favourite game and I thought I knew everything, but you taught me alot in this video!
Another cool thing that chalice adds to the main game is that in king dice when fighting him. The developers added floating hearts above the parry cards when you're using ms chalice
You can actually dodge Cala Maria's eyebeams in phase 3 if you actually stay very close to her, then when you do that you have to dodge the spiky pillars by going up and down. (You can see the spiky pillars in like a split second behind cala's head.) With this strategy I can say that it's the easiest way to S rank her. Edit: Works for every version of the game.
I knew most of these, but I didn't know about #9. Including all those specific details like turning ms chalice gold just shows how much detail the devs are willing to put into this game
With the limes in saltbaker, when they come from the bottom, you can duck under them but when they come from the top to go down you can’t because they’re too low And also if you slow it down and look closely at glumstones opening you can see his gold tooth that one of the gnomes is mining disappears for a frame
Ok, I should probably share what I learned too. For the most part I have most of these already but not all of them. Many by experience, trial and error, and more. I tried lobber myself, and at first for the worst shot challenge I thought it was really gonna suck, but now I realize that regardless of how bad the weapon is, it can still be useful. The Chalice Ex combo was quite noticeable for me, and I tested the charm on Hilda Berg "Aeroplane Level" on my original story attempt and found that you can use charms on them, and it's up to you what charm you use. And for Pacifist, I had the worst time, the most pain, misery, agony, rage on perilous perils all because of those stupid Shrimps! But I made it by constantly dodging left and right with a smoke bombs and such, it also helped to read where the shrimp were gonna land on me so I navigate through them and make it to the end. And for ducking, when I notice the ducking control, I thought there be attacks to duck so through my learning death steps I learned the Gooply, Cagney, Briney, and Devil dodges. My brother notices the little gap between Calas Stone's gaze and the flight area to hide in and it helps a ton to get set up on that phase. I notice the Birds died off screen on Wally Warbles FIght, as I listen closely and found the sound effect play and the animation too. For Rumor Honeybottoms, I learned about that wallop worth of damage that can be dealt to her on that transition to phase 4 from the guide that helped me S ranked the boss by switching all the while firing Lobber and Roundabout, it sure came faster with the knockout. For Moonshine Mob, someone pointed out that, if you watch the Ant Eater Eyes, both eyes will squint, then the bug ball animation move will activate. And there are other combinations of eye squinting for the other ant eater attacks too. For Mortimer Freeze, I tried this, and it's possible to parry the pink Popsical Stick when it comes straight out of the freezer if you are lucky enough that it spawns closer to the ground though, and maybe have Chalice for that too. And that's it for me. Any other than those facts that I have not mentioned are facts I did not know of. And let me be clear when I say this. I don't say this to say I already knew this stuff, I only hoped to share my experience to what lead me finding the same thing, and therefore I appreciate JustoALLDay for taking the time to cover something like this. Hopefully a lot of Cuphead players will find this useful.
I have completed 247% of the game with ten S Ranks thus far but still this video had tons of cool new stuff to me, I'm gonna try some out when I get to my Switch, especially the Smoke Bomb on Esther Winwhester phases 2 and 3, and flying levels overall. Thanks man for this.
I actually used to do that with lobber back in 2017 because lobber was the only weapon I bought lmao. Also, video idea: small animation details you may have missed in cuphead. An example would be mortimer's boots turning into ice skates for a split second in his intro.
I don't know if anyone else knows this, but i have never heard anyone mention it, in Cala Maria's second phase, there is an indicator for when she will use her lazer beam, it is a quick beam sound with no animation, but it helps me a ton for dodging.
For cala maria, spin the stick in circles to break out of the stone instead of button mashing. For ribby and croaks and glumstone the giant you can parry the boxing gloves and gas bubbles facing away from the boss at the edge of the screen roundabout will do the rest. Great video
Another good one is that on Beppis final phase, the spread shot will drain his health. On top of that, you can use Cupheads 1st super art to wipe out the penguins and make the final phase a breeze.
Hey justo! Just watched your grim matchstick S rank guide earlier today, it helped a lot! I finished the level with 3 parries, 3 health, good time, but with 5/6 supers. PAIN...
Another good thing to know if you want to cheese phase 3 of Cala Maria, if you stay right in front of her head, the only thing you will have to worry about are the spikes which you can see coming from behind her head. This lets you completely avoid the worry of the snake attacks and the freeze.
Some of these I knew but and some of them I didn't. I find these facts useful and some of them are cool to know. (Edit : I love how you use the animation of the new justo at the end)
Cuphead is really nostalgic for me as I started playing at 5yrs old, I beat all the achievements except for one dlc achievement, I’m glad that people are still playing cuphead
hey bro don't stop making videos they are super good keep doing things like this so that cuphead doesn't die I recommend you beat the game with the tornado shot
something else that i thought was cool, is that whenever you dash your hitbox is lowered as if you are ducking. so you can dash under cagney’s boomerang, the yarn balls in the howling aces, and anything else you can duck under, you can also dash under.
to add on to the cala maria point, not only can you dodge the petrification beam in the second phase but a faint noise is played about a second before she actually does the attack to warn you to get to safety. the noise is a fainter version of the attack noise itself.
I found 2 extra tips that you didnt mention in the video Tip 1 : When you dash it changes the hitbox if you are crouching, for example: when briney's shoots the laser you can dash under it Tip 2: This also works with twist-up ex 6:46
Love how at the start you used the saltbaker purgatory has the gameplay to basically say you are really good at the game. Also, when you have Mugman instead of Cuphead on, you have Mugman chewing on his nails before running back into the astral plane.
Here’s a tip for perilous piers: you need to have the twin heart charm equipped and you need to get to the last stage without taking any damage then when you get to the octopus phase instead of parrying to start it keep dashing through the ocean and you can get to the dock with 1hp to spare
You can actually skip Sally Stageplay's second phase if you jump on both cupids in the first phase and trigger that secret RIGHT when you beat the first phase. It's pretty hard to do, but I managed to pull it off as Ms. Chalice a few times.
wow! although i've been playing cuphead for a long time (i completed the game THREE TIMES by 300% and collected all the achievements), i was surprised i don’t know something about this game! basically, i knew almost everything, except for some hard things i hadn't seen before. for example, when Chalice turns into a golden statue in Cala Maria's level. probably because i hate playing Miss Chalice as airplane :D thank you for this video!
Well another useful tip i’ve learned. In saltbakers fight, if you’re having trouble with that stupid flame in the first phase. You can actually duck underneath it.
There's actually a high pitch sound playing 1 or 2 seconds before cala maria shoots her annoying laser. That way you can dogde it consistently unless there's 20 snake bullets preventing you from going above her head. Saved me alot
You can also replay mausoleums on keyboard by holding Tab and Backspace. Also you can replay the intro sequence with Chef Slatbaker (going the spooky hallway)
I like doing the secret phase with Djimmi the Great because every other shot that the little puppet shoots is pink, allowing me (with enough skill) to breeze through the final phase extremely fast, especially with Coffee.
I don't know if you've already done this I think it'd be interesting if you tried to beat cagney without jumping. I've attempted this before and it was pretty challenging and i'd love to see how you would do😉
found that in perilous piers, if you go past the point where the lobster despawns and then double back to the most recent bouy, there's a starfish that spawns next to it which consistently spawns as a pink starfish, providing a handy source for free exp parries in pacifist runs
heres a tip when you fight the frogs on normal you are able to deal enough damage and entirely skip the 2nd phase with the roundabout ex shot once you at least parry 2 of the fists and build up 2 or 3 cards with the regular shot.
yo justo i have a video idea for you how about you do cuphead boss tier list updated with the dlc bosses and another one is you can start doing challenges like ninjachicken or sample i would love to watch it keep it up Edit : i just realised you already did the tier list but you can still do the second idea
4:39 Don’t ask me how, but I was getting all pacifist stuff done, and after beating the rugged ridge, I was like “I’ll just try perilous piers for a few tries”… *i proceeded to get it first try*
Those facts were so cool and I have another random and stupid fact: in the devil's 2nd phase when the camera is coming down and you use an EX, you'll glitch yourself and literally fly and incapable of shooting, but it depends on the platform under you, if you touch it everything goes back to normal. Bonus: actually I knew the Ribby one, and with the spreadshot you can get just close enough to double your damage
heres another tip about Cala Maria actually: some people may or may not know this, but during her second phase, theres a VERY quiet but noticeable audio cue for when she is about to do her freeze glare. its like a half-second of that sound effect when she turns you to stone. i thought it was a weird audio glitch, but your ear can pick it up _especially_ if youre listening for it. this can help for when u need to quickly go up to avoid her glare.
At 5:21 it depends on where they come from first; if they come from the bottom and then boomerang to the top you can duck under them but if they come from the top and boomerang to the bottom they’re too low.
Justo if u didn't know, in cala Maria if u wanna still damage her and know when she does her eye beam, if u listen carefully before she does an eye beam she does this screeching sound and u have 2-3 seconds to react and get up to the place where u can get away from the beam, or u can use the bomb, I found it out while doing her on expert mode, your welcome:D
Yeah I didn’t know you could duck dash till recently. Very useful if the barrel is trying to hit you while ducking under the laser. I use to legit think I had to get good rng to beat Briney Beard or lucky enough to be able to time it right and not get hit by a fireball. Lol
