I just got into a situation like recently this driving to NYC from Cambridge Mass with a tour buss and trailer after a show, we got to NYC during rush hour....I was 3 miles from the hotel in NJ and had to get to the GWB. My first tour carrying not only 12 people but everyones gear and belongings. Big accident, couldn't do the truck route and i'm up against a bridge I couldn't go under because of my AC's. The amount of people honking, filming, screaming obscenities, I could have pushed through and scraped a bunch of cars/roof and got fired, I was overwhelmed and parked for a few minutes. I saw a local tow truck driver on the corner and walked out and asked for help, call me a pussy but whatever. He calmed me down and talked me through it and directed traffic and even though it took time with lights and intersections because it was bumper to bumper and I would never be able to back up without a spotter. It all worked out in the end. I gave him a $100 bill out of my pocket and tried to give him more but he wouldn't accept. We need more of this
We as trackers really appreciate the help 🙏 especially from yall respectfully 😂 because yall are aggressive drivers and ect🤦🏽♂️but yeah I understand bra pain , alot of mental stress reminds me of Cambridge MA, I posted 🤦🏽♂️
They literally have a class to learn how to drive a van. Not the big Rivian, or the large UPS style, or even the high top Sprinter. Just a plain old flat top Dodge cargo van. It's scary.
Honestly. Seeing everyone come together and help that man. Even tho I know they had to be clownin him. Regardless is still awsome to see. They came together and helped.
چرا باید او را مسخره میکرند؟ این یک کار عادی است، در ایران این کارها و کمک کردنها خیلی طبیعی و اصلا اخبار جدیدی نیست،اینجا اگر کمک نکنید تعجب میکنند از شما😮
The trucks of choice would be box truck and flatbed. Under no circumstances should a semi be in an area like this. That guy has got to be angry yet thankful for the help. This is insane.
As someone who drove an 18-wheeler in every borough but Manhattan, I’ll say this. There is no amount of money you can offer me at this point in my life to ever drive again in NYC. That includes a 4-wheeler, life is too short for the bullshit
This is what makes me want to become a truck driver,🚛 it is very motivating, 🗽💯taking on challenges and facing difficulties and breakdowns. Thank you to everyone who helped this driver ❤
What angers me is the 3 cars parked in the corners and the owners just stay looking!!! If those fools would had moved thos cars out of the way for the truck to go thru it would had been a whole lot better! Shame to those idiots parked in the corners!!
how do you know the owners of the cars were watching. I'm a truck driver too and I get the frustration of cars crappy parking right at the edge of a turn but we don't know who the car owners were. I doubt they would let someone jack up their car and push it vs moving it if they were watching. this is NYC lots of pedestrians around
And gaurantee that the very ones who could move their cars wont....This is why they tell people not to park on corners but hey it is NYC.....Kudos to the ones who helped and to truck driver himself.
Every time I had to go into NYC I got help from the local people with directions I even got an escort to the pickle factory from the new York fire department. The next time NYC police. Then another time an ambulance escort. NYC is really bad to drive a truck. But the people in NYC are the best.😊
This is tough no matter how you look at it. One of the things that makes it so tough is the fact that he has it spread axle trailer. The other thing is those front guards are a great asset, but they do become problematic in situations like this. It is for this reason I installed a dump valve on my spread axle to make it a little easier in situations like this. When you have no dump valve, the key is to get the trailer wheels as far to the right as possible, even if it means purposely pulling forward and backing up to get the trailer wheels over as far as possible, Then get the rear axle as close to, or as much into the intersection as possible, then make a series of forward and reverse moves, turning slightly each time, while maximizing your forward and rearward space. Seeing everyone come together to help out, though, that’s New York’s finest right there. This guy will have a story to tell for years to come.
It would have been a lot easier with a lift axel system and the both axel. You lift up the rear axle for those tight turns. Then you lower the rear axle and lift up the forward axle to avoid the swing of the trailer. It works every time. Also check your routing with a paper map when you’re going into a big narrow city and call your shipper/receiver for specific truck routing. It will save you a lot of time and stress. New York is not as bad as people say. You have to be calm and do those things I said. Stay calm and don’t make a turn anywhere if you are not sure. Don’t worry about traffic behind you. They can honk their horns and yell at you all they want but if you don’t move they can’t move do don’t worry about them. Only thing you can control is you and don’t make any mistakes because it will cost you not the yelling four wheelers behind you.
he didn't panic and cause damage that's a win. so many drivers get too anxious by honking horns and yelling they that destroy property trying to get away asap. it takes humility to ask for help when everyone is against you. he did a good job given the circumstances. obviously he was anxious
I’m a truck driver and I live in New York and I don’t even take loads going there tell you the truth I don’t even bring the truck home I park on the yard and fly home
Its 47 more states, easier, less streeful ways to make money. Why anyone chooses to take loads into the city is beyond me. Even if i were company drive i would refuse a load going into the city. If they wanna fire you for that, tell um to kick rocks.
U saying that and I bet u will go to L A in a heartbeat and catch a bullet why the hard part of New York is it's so damn tight to get around in a big truck.
Truck Drivers bringing communities together. Or is it the residents are afraid of getting damage to their vehicles?🤔 Whatever it is, see how well neighbors can work together as a team! Even a bless you was mentioned.🙂👌
Let’s be honest here. NYC is not for everybody. You can tell real truckers . Anybody you hear on here complaining about NYC and the difficulties are not real truckers
@@Davekelly35 “real truckers” for the most part are a damn embarrassment. You can have your supertrucker trophy, tell all your asswipe cohorts stories at the TA trucker’s table, and jack off in your sleeper over chrome while I’m on top of my old lady after my cozy M-F 9 hour linehaul run.
He won't forget that but it gives you more experience safe driving all you truckes out there I'm backing out ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ ps big love for all the peterbuilts out old or young my lady just sits now in the back yard ❤❤❤
I used to deliver to all the McDonald's in all the boroughs in the 53 and that right there is exactly why I will never go back for less than $24,000 with a maximum weight of 6000 lb
As a Texan I remember 15 years ago when i got my CDL 3 solo run was to N.Y. I leaned real quick I didn't want any part of them b.s. states and now 15 yrs driving I still feel the same way lol
During my 2 years I've had to get out of a few "sticky" situations...... either way ya learn your truck and it's turning radius and everything you just get a good feel for it. After you really know the truck as well as your own d*ck then you "just know" if you can make a turn before ever attempting it. You just know ahead of time no matter the turn or situation you just know "to keep going" or to "turn back/reverse" ahead of time to avoid nightmares like this one. Also once you know the truck/trailer setup well enough it simply takes just getting out and looking while running sims in your brain till you find that perfect plan then execute it flawlessly. If you're not one with your truck than ya easily end up like this guy in the video no telling how many times/situations. You must become "one" with the truck, trailer, traffic, and everything around you.
It's that type of trailer that makes maneuvering difficult. I think that if he had swung as wide as possible and did a few back and forth maneuvers, he would have made it.
A word of advice to drivers going to big cities like this. Plan your route ahead of time and then CALL the shipper or receiver before entering the city to ask for the best route to get in. Even if you plan your route perfectly ahead of time, there may be a street closure that will get you into a pickle just like this. Thanks to the people there for helping! Not everyone will do that.
Only driven 32-36' box trucks, couldn't imagine driving this in cities like ny, boston, etc. Guy who I used to work with was like a magician driving these trailers. Respect. Hiw many people you wanna guess were watching out their windows and couldve offered to move their car 🙄
As a truck driver myself that runs the 5 borrows of NY I never had a issue. Ny Will show you what kind of driver you are and will test your skill and patience. I have seen driver myself stuck and helped a few myself. Ny is no place for us big trucks
Im 8 years going on 9 years of otr driving and i have Never been to NYC and dont want to go....every sense i experience "PHILADELPHIA PENNSYLVANIA" im good on Pennsylvania,Massachusetts, new jersey and Connecticut and new York
It’s amazing how Big those trucks get when you’re somewhere you don’t belong. YIKES 😳, Suddenly you’re driving a 747. Not fun at all. What part of NYC was that, Queens?
OMG, this does not make me feel bad all the times I've had to go on the sidewalk to back up 😅, especially when I'm in Washington 😅. Be safe out there 🙏
Its good people are helping him but just remember this if you can't see his mirror he can't see you. My first truck driving job started in NYC. This driver at least doesn't have to deal with elervated subway tracks. Cars parked right up to the corners are always a problem.
I do this daily same flat bed same spread axels.. job sites be the worst. But like someone mentioned if u not from here stay out from here.. us who live here and do this. We like the navy seals of trucking
Had similar situation in downtown ny city... cop came around , told me to wait 5 min for people to move the cars parked illegal... if they weren't out of the way then i was to go!... word spread really quick and cars moved😅
So ridiculous sending drivers into areas like this (unless this guy driving took a shortcut or something, then it's on him). I drove semi-tractor/trailers of just about every kind for a few years. One of the most thankless jobs in the world. Glad I am out. I can thankfully say I never got into such a situation. My advice to new drivers and future drivers is don't go off your planned route(s) and don't take deliveries to places like this, it's not worth it. Go with a company that doesn't deliver or pick-up from the northeast, *anywhere*.
My stress levels went thru the roof just watching this shit!! This is my ABSOLUTE worst nightmare as a truck driver "also blowing a steer tire doing 70mph" I try my absolute HARDEST to never get myself into a situation like this. Somethings are out of your control, like road closures & construction.
I can reminder driving in. New York with 18 wheeler and could made the turn at2 am in morning I had to back all the way back to main st. no problem but it’s was the traffic behind be. To get it to move took 2 1/2 hr to back up. In a city that never
It’s easy talking from the computer. The max trailer lengths I see in Jamaica is 45-48ft . Cars are parked on both sides of the streets. Jamaica is cake walk to drive!
I drove a lowboy trailer carrying excavation equipmentin in the 5 boro's. Queens/long island city was the worst only because people would park there cars all the way to the end of the corners even sticking pass the cross walk. Do you know how hard it is to make a turn like that.. What a pain but managed never to have an accident. Thank god
